• As it flows downhill, it picks upsalt from the soil and rocks.

• The water flows into tributaries(small streams or rivers).

• Tributaries flow into a largerriver.

• The river flows into the oceanand drops off a small amount ofsalt.

• Ocean waves pound on rocksand sand, picking up salt andadding it to the oceans.

• Some ocean water evaporates, changing from a liquid to a gas(water vapor).

• As the water vapor rises out of the ocean, the salt stays behind,making the remaining watersaltier.
