Baxter Health Began in 1931 as a manufacture of commercially prepared intravenous.
Baxter agreed to buy the unprofitable dialysis equipment maker Althin Medical A.B. of Sweden for about $130 million in cash, stock and debt to expand in the $7 billion renal care market.
During the summer and fall of 2001, 23 patients in Croatia died, as did 15 patients in Spain, seven in Taiwan, five in Germany and two in Colombia. Four additional patients died in the United States.
“Data from hospitals show that there
was more than one common element to all the patients” (Baxter spokeswoman Patty O'Haer )
“There is no information linking these deaths to the dialyzer” made by Baxter (Tanya Tyska, Baxter spokeswoman)
