I. Overview
This chapter outlines Talbots’ Folding, Packaging and Shipping carton marking requirements.
We realize that our vendors take great care in the manufacturing and finishing of each
item/garment. These efforts must continue through packaging products to protect the quality
and provide a professional presentation for Talbots’ customers. We must assure packaging
guidelines and standards are appropriate for the product and our Lakeville DC operation
processes.
Talbots Folding/Packaging Processes Expectations
Ensure that selected packaging and shipping materials will protect the merchandise and
sustain its shape throughout the various handling and shipping processes
Orders must be professionally presented upon arrival to Talbots’ customers
Accurately comply with all packaging and shipping carton markings
Partner with Talbots for any and all exceptions
3
II. Garment Pack Type
Garments must be packed as specified on the Master Style Sheet, unless a written waiver is issued
from Talbots.
Pack merchandise in a method that will protect garments during shipping and handling,
through to final destination (retail store or direct marketing customer)
Garments are not to be over-packed - resulting in excessive compression causing impressions,
wrinkling, creasing or other damage
Pack Types:
Flat Pack Garments folded without a hanger and sealed inside a poly bag
Hanging Garments placed on appropriate hanger (jacket, top/dress, pant/skirt and sealed
in a garment-length poly bag
Three methods of hanging packing/shipping are used:
Flat on Hanger (FOH) Packed flat into carton
Carton on Hanger (COH) Garments on hangers shipped upright hanging in a carton
Garment on Hanger (GOH) Units packed vertically in a large shipping container
No metal jet clips, staples or pins are to be attached to the garment
Cartons are lined with a piece of corrugated cardboard to protect the
garments at the top and bottom of the carton
Product with embellishments, such as beading and appliqués, may require
extra packaging; vendors should propose best packaging methods to Talbots
Sourcing, and Lakeville Quality Control
Multi-piece garments, sold as one unit, must be hung on one hanger (GOH,
COH, FOH) or sealed inside one poly bag (flat pack); hangers must include
clips to hold bottom piece of the garment
For belted garments: the belt must be attached to the hanger with a clip on a
swift attachment loop, and must hang inside the garment
Do not slip belt buckles over neck of hanger or hang belts from belt loops of
the garment
Guidelines for all Cartons Containing Merchandise
Each carton must be packed either all flat or all hanging, never mixed
Cartons must be packed neatly, never overfilled or under filled
Cartons must be sealed with security tape
Non-acceptable sealants:
Plastic/Nylon/Metal Bands, Glue, Staples (except to secure straps in FOH cartons)
4
III. Poly Bag Requirement
Poly -bags must be sized appropriately to fit closely around the garment with no additional
packaging or space.
a. Poly Bags Specification
Poly bags can be sealed using one of three methods:
Heat sealed
Self-sealed
A piece of clear adhesive tape every 3 – 4 inches along the opening of the bag
Poly Bags Specification
Details
Made of Clear, Low Density Polyethylene (LDPE)
No Butylated Hydroxytoluene (BHT Free)

b. Suffocation Warning Requirement
Talbots requires a suffocation warning to be printed on all poly bags. Print must appear in
block lettering and be clear and legible.
The warning label must be represented in both English and French languages to read:
“WARNING – TO AVOID DANGER OF SUFFOCATION KEEP THIS BAG AWAY FROM BABIES AND
CHILDREN. DO NOT USE IN CRIBS, BEDS, CARRIAGES, OR PLAYPENS. THIS BAG IS NOT A TOY.
KNOT BAG BEFORE THROWING AWAY.”
and

BÉBÉS ET DES ENFANTS. N’UTILISEZ PAS DANS DES HUCHES, DES LITS, DES CHARIOTS OU
PLAYPENS. CE SAC N’EST PAS UN JOUET. SAC DE NOEUD AVANT DE JETER.”
6
IV. Flat Pack Requirements
Each PO is written; units are ordered as a ratio for vendor pre-pack shipment or as single units for
a single-pack shipment.
Vendor Packs/Pre-Packs
No poly bags for individual units; only one poly bag wrapping all units in
vendor pack, maintaining the fold and stack (multiple sizes and/or colors
of the same style)
No inside cartons are to be used, only poly bags for each vendor pack
Stack sizes in order of smallest to largest; smallest on top
Single Pack / Bulk Orders
All units must be individually poly bagged
Cartons must be packed in solid sizes per carton
End of sizes can be packed into cartons marked “mixed sizes”
Different colors cannot be mixed within the same carton
Stack sizes in order of smallest to largest; smallest on top
7
a. Folding Requirements
Merchandise must maintain its shape during shipping and throughout processing at
Talbots DC.
Folding requirements are the same for Talbots USA Core, Canada and Outlet.
For specifics, please refer to Folding Guidelines in Section X of this Chapter.
Folding Dimensions
The following folds are recommended, however the vendor must assure product presentation
is as required in this chapter and may adjust the fold dimension as needed:
X-Large fold 22x14 Women’s, coats, outwear, long sweaters, blazers
Large 12 x14 Pants, jeans, women’s
Medium fold 12 x 8, 12 x 10 or 12 x12 sweaters, blouses, tops
Small fold 8 x 8, 8 x10 sleeves tops, tops
Garments may be folded into any size that to fits into the standard carton size but cannot
exceed 22 x14.
Carton sizes and fold must be compatible to assure shipping product that will remain secure
and neat during transit. Do not allow excessive space inside the carton that will allow the
garment to shift.
Folding may need to be adjusted due to product size, embellishments, or fabric
type. We will rely on our Agents/Vendors to provide suggestions that will best
protect garments to meet Talbots shipping and customer presentation goals.
All Hangtags and Price Tickets must be visible when shipping a flat packed
garment. Please ensure that the price and barcode side of the tag is facing up for
easy viewing/scanning.
Acceptable Unacceptable
8
Depending on attachment of hangtag and price ticket, the fold method may need to
change slightly, as the attachment must be visible during shipment. Majority of hangtags are
attached at the main label; majority of price tickets are attached at the sleeve or side seam.
Chipboard/tissue is required for all styles or fabrications that need support to prevent
slouching or shifting within the poly bag.
Chipboard Specification
350 GSM minimum
Size: based on fold
White face/White back (White side face up)
¼” radius rounded on all 4 corners
Must not contain any metal materials (sometimes found in recycled materials

There are two recommended methods of packing garments flat:

Flat-On-Hanger – Garment is on hanger, sealed inside poly bag, packed flat into carton.
Hangers, in stacks of five, must be secured to alternating ends of the carton. Do not tie
hangers together.
When shipping garments that could become damaged, vendors may seek to ship
Carton-On-Hanger – garments on hangers shipped hanging in carton. This method should be
used only in rare occurrences when garments cannot be placed lying down in a carton.
