Chapter Report Purpose: To provide chapters with a progranmatic plammg tOOl as well as a

Standardized means of recording its accomplishments. The Virginia Society (“VASSAR”)

encourages its chapters to be well-rOunded, reCOgnizing that chapters vary in size and may not be able to

Pa正cipate in all of the programs/activities promoted by VASSAR and NSSAR. To this end,珊een (15)

questions are designed to provide the Awards Committee and VASSAR o餌cials with a picture of chapter

Performance across a broad range of patriotic, historical, educational, and fratemal activities. Question sixteen

(16) is a bonus question which comes under the category of a current President’s initiatives・ And finally,

Question number seventeen (17) provides Chapters with an opportundy to advise VASSAR about how itmight better serve the needs of its members.

For award purposes, Chapter perfomance wiユl be reviewed by membership size categories as follows:

Scoring of answers to questions follows a simple fomula of one point for participation and zero (0) for non-

Participation.

Historic CeIebrations and Observances pa正cipation is divided into three (3) categories as follows:

Category l: Yorktown Day Observance, Raid at Ma正n’s Station, Battle of Great Bridge’

Crossmg Of the Dan, Guilford Courthouse, Point Pleasant, King’s Mountain,

Cowpens, Ft. Laurens and Valley Forge (every three (3) yearsjointly with DAR).

Category2: George Washington’s Birthday, James Madison’s B正hday, James Monroe’s

B正hday, Thomas Jefferson,s B正hday, Constitution Day, Memorial Day, and

Veteran’s Day.

Category3: Other celebrations e.g., including but not limited to, Battle of the Hook, Battle of

Petersburg, Vietnam Memorial Day. This also includes al1 1ocal celebrations/events

SuCh as chapter, DAR or C.A.R. grave markings, etC.

Caveats :

◆ Reports must be received by the Awards Committee no Iater than January 15, 2016.

Dedication of Loudon County Revolutionary War Memorial・ The memorial statue

depicts a Virginia Revolutionary War militiaman leavmg tO join his unit with his wife

and son at his side showmg eXPreSSions of detemination, Pride’and apprehension・

This gift ofthe statue and its dedication are the culmination ofa 16 year prqject led

by Compatriot Don Cooper ofthe Fairfax ResoIves and the donation of $2500 by the

Chapter and its members・ Recognition of the Chapter, s contribution to this e批加was

acknowledged with a plaque a能xed to the monument. The State SAR President also

attended this event.

At Burke Centre Conservatory on Sep 1 2, Chapter conducted discussions with Fairfax

County Board of Supervisors (Sharon Bulova, Chaiman & Braddock District

Supervisor Cook) and State Represe血ative Com about the political role of the Fairfax

ResoIves document in Fairfax County, s political history. O能cers explained that the

Fairfax ResoIves document is the負direct ancestor ofthe Fairfax County Board of

Supervisors.” No govemment attendees were previously aware of the Fairfax (and

other counties) ResoIves which preceded the Declaration of Independence・

Chapter donated $400 to Library of Congress, Magna Carta PrQject・

Da正n Schmidt and Larry McKinley both pa正cipated in Summer Workshops for the

V.S.C.A.R. (July 17/1 8 at Yorktown, VA and August 7/8 at Blacksburg, VA).

Puapose is to communicate the national program and the state program to a11 local

societies so they can start on their local society work program for the year. Both

above mentioned members contributed over $350 to ensure the State Conference ran

we11 ($250 went to repair a silver chalice used for the memorial service conducted at

the State Conference). At the national level over $600 was contributed to ensure

PrOPer functionmg at Headquarters・

lineage and responsibilities of membership to his grandson.
