STATIC CHARACTERS
A static character is one who does not undergo any important internal change throughout the story
“internal” refers to the character’s attitude, values, or outlook on life.
“internal” does not refer to physical traits such as hair color or age!
STATIC CHARACTERS con…
Static characters are minor characters,
or supporting characters… They don’t change!
They do not have much depth to them.
President Snow (The Hunger Games)
He was just as ruthless and evil in the beginning as he was in the end!
Because he remained the same, Snow was a STATIC CHARACTER
Evil Step-sisters
DYNAMIC CHARACTERS
DYNAMIC CHARACTERS start off believing or feeling one way …
…and wind up seeing things differently by the end of the story.
DYNAMIC CHARACTERS con…
The protagonist, or main character, is usually a DYNAMIC CHARACTER.
Katniss entered the Hunger Games to save her sister. Inside the games, however, she developed the will to rebel against the Capitol.
DYNAMIC CHARACTER = internal change
You are now ready to go find dynamic
and static characters in your story!
