CHARACTERSThe Character Reviews…

Page 3: Charactersmangserapio

SERAPIO

• Portrayed to be inferior, “hamak”, sad, but not mad (contrary to most people saying that he is—that’s what people would likely be saying when they haven’t understood this character deep enough) character. A father to a daughter, a simple man, he only wanted to live; but was that too much to ask?

• Being only a “hamak”, he was vulnerable to any sinister eyes, and eventually, was accused by the three witnesses/saksi of committing a crime.

HUKOM

• Basically the “judge” or “magistrate” in the courthouse; and of course the one to judge the accused: Mang Serapio.

• Portrayed to be the “pabaya” kind of judge—one who already have the conclusion in mind and was just putting up the trial for show—or for formality reasons.

• The Hukom is short tempered, uncaring, and selfish, but shows good nature towards his (her) fellow officials in the Federacion.

UNANG TAGAPAGTANONG

• “Tagapagtanong” means “prosecutor” or “prosecuting attorney”.

• Portrayed to be mostly crude, arrogant, and short-tempered. “Unang Tagapagtanong” goes to have a personality that he needs to have his way through. Unang Tagapagtanong is not poignant, but shows a superficial form of emotion that, when infuriated (eg. On Act 10), he tends to easily break things letting them loose.

• He, and Ikalawang Tagapagtanong will throw questions to the accused, Mang Serapio.

IKALAWANG TAGAPAGTANONG

• In contrast to Unang Tagapagtanong, Ikalawang Tagapagtanong will be showing more genuine emotions, will act more playful, and could show candid gestures whenever necessary, such as touching Serapio on his (her) shoulders and jeering close to his face, in trying to talk or suggesting Serapio to give in to the court’s demands.

• Together with Unang Tagapagtanong, Ikalawang Tagapagtanong will throw questions to the accused.

SAKSI / WITNESSES

• Witnesses are basically those who will testify against or in favour of the accused.

Page 12: Charactersmangserapio

UNANG SAKSI

• The only character to be speaking most of her lines in English.

• Unang Saksi is portrayed to be similar to Sen. Miriam Defensor Santiago, full of flowering English, full of herself.

• One of the three witnesses who heard (or rather, spied) Mang Serapio, and uncovered an alleged “child” under Mang Serapio’s care.

IKALAWANG SAKSI

• One of the three witnesses who heard (or rather, spied) Mang Serapio, and uncovered the alleged “child” whom Serapio is taking care of.

• Portrayed to be similar to Manny Pacquiao—although not totally him, but more of a politician who should NOT be a politician.

• You know, politicians who are plainly DUMB.

• Actors, celebrities, and the like—unless they have studied and have any know-how on political science and the Philippine constitution, should not have a place in the politics.

IKATLONG SAKSI

• One of the three witnesses who heard (or rather, spied) Mang Serapio, and uncovered an alleged “child” whom Serapio is taking care of.

• Ikatlong Saksi is known to be the pierrot, or the pantomimer. Her actions will need to be translated by either the Unang or Ikalawang Saksi to convey what is on her mind.
