Lots of acheivements, but what's important to know is that Cornwallis was trusted and respected by the king
Micro Koran
We know him best for losing the American Revolution for Great Britain, but he was actually the kind of guy you wanted on your side most of the time. He was experienced, and honorable in that he didn't let things like political parties or personal biases get to him, even though he was kind of like the "king's pet". In general, he was a very skilled commander.

AMERICAN REVOLUTION

• Opposed policies against colonies that led to Revolutionary War

• Became major-general during American Revolution despite personal beliefs

• Drove George Washington’s forces out of New Jersey – 1776

• Victory over General Horatio Gates – South Carolina, 1780

• Established base at seaport of Yorktown • trapped by American and French army by land and French navy at sea• Surrendered his army

• Never lost esteem in Britain
