2020 Summer Enrichment Camp Information

Camp Weeks:

Week 1: June 22 - June 26 Week 2: July 6 - July 10 Week 3: July 13 - July 17 Week 4: July 20 - July 24 Camp Location: Mattawoman Middle School 10145 Berry Rd. Waldorf, MD Kindergarten camps held at Berry Elementary School, 10155 Berry Rd., Waldorf, MD

Camp sessions last 3 hours/day for 1 week.

Camp sessions offered in the morning (8:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.)

and afternoon (12:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m.).

Activity time, including free lunch, for campers attending both morning and

afternoon sessions for $10.00/week to cover supervision.

Cost for each camp session - $90.00*

Financial assistance available to those who qualify. For information, contact Alicia Briscoe at 301- 934-7369 or [email protected].

*Some camps have additional cost for materials.

Week 1: June 22 - June 26 Morning Camp Sessions (8:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.)

The Great Outdoors

Explore the great outdoors by making crafts, playing games, cre-ating birdfeeders, and more! Learn about animals and other outdoor adventures through books and play!

All Things Science

Nothing is more fun than getting messy and being creative. Each day you will engage in a new experiment to test your knowledge of science while you learn how exciting and challenging it can be.

Goin’ Green

Explore how to reduce, reuse, and recycle! Engage in arts and crafts, hands-on-activities, stories, songs and more! We all need to take care of our environment and this camp will offer exciting activities promoting a green earth.

Around the World in Five Days

Come and travel the world! Each day you will “travel” to a new country. Learn some of the language, make a craft, and try some foods from that country. Have fun learning about the life and culture from places around the world.

Body Moves Through Science

Do you like to dance? This camp will teach you different science topics while you also learn dance routines, techniques, formations, and creative movement. We will explore different genres of dance such as ballet, hip hop, jazz, and contemporary, while exploring laws of motion, earth sci-ence, chemistry, physics, and biology.

LEGO Robotics

Come join the Lego fun as you create robots using WeDo 2.0 to accomplish a secret mission. Learn to build and code a robot to work through a maze of fun.

Fitness for Fun

Learn the skills and play games in bas-ketball, soccer, flag-football, floor hockey, and more. Stay active this summer while having fun learning the moves and skills of various sports as you play against each other.

Summer Band Camp

Don’t let your musical talents go idle over the summer. Come out with other students to play new music and learn new skills. Fun musical games will also be enjoyed. Perform a mini-concert on the last day of camp.

Game Night

Have fun playing others in strategic board games and card games. You will also like solving riddles as well as cre-ating your own board game to try out on other campers.

My Art, My World Arts Camp

You will have an “out of the box” thinking experience as you use your own learning style to enhance your creative skills through literary, visual, and performing arts. Come out and

experience a cultural arts integrated program! An additional cost of $10.00 added for art sup-plies.

Lunch Activity Time is available for those students staying for an afternoon camp session. For an extra $10.00 they will be served a hot lunch and have an activity time in between their morning and afternoon camp sessions.

Suit Up For Outer Space

Blast off this summer to space camp! Learn all about space using hands-on space themed activities. Explore the many wonders of the universe beyond our reach.

Summer Time STEAM

Enjoy building rockets and other STEAM related activities during this week-long camp focused on science, technology, engineering, math, and art! Hands-on activities will have you learning while having fun!

Escape Room

Do you enjoy solving riddles and find-ing clues? Can you be the first to “escape”? Each day will be a new experience and theme such as Zombie Teacher and Ancient Egypt Escape Room. Join the fun to see if you can escape!

Use clues, riddles, and brain teasers to unlock a different mystery every day. Students will work in small groups to complete Breakout Box activities as they try to solve the mystery. Put your problem solving skills to use as you cre-ate your own breakout box!

Create your own games, art, and digi-tal stories that you can share. This is a great way for you to have fun while coding with other students who enjoy computers. Learn to code in Scratch, Python, Sphero and more!

Camp Half-Blood

Enter the world of Greek mythology inspired by the Percy Jackson series! Students will be placed into different houses of the gods and learn about myths from around the world. Play Olympic-style games, mythology trivia, and more!

Goin’ Green

Learn to reduce, reuse, and recycle through arts and crafts, hands-on-activities, stories, songs, and more! We all need to take better care of our environment and this camp will offer exciting activities promoting a green earth.

Crazy Contraptions

Create your own Rube Goldberg ma-chine that intentionally takes a simple task to an indirect and overly compli-

cated set-up. Use your creative think-ing to problem solve your design and construct your own contraption.

This camp is out of this world with crafts, science projects, songs, and activities all focused on outer space. While learning about space in this fun camp, you will make a telescope, compete in Asteroid Toss and make galaxy playdoh.

Chess for All Levels

Whether you are a beginner or an ex-perienced chess player, enjoy a week of chess matches to perfect your skills. Learn the moves of all the chess pieces as well as special moves you can make to take the match.

Let’s “Paws” about Cats

Discover the world of cats—wild and domestic. From Siamese and Bengal cats to the lynx, lion, and Siberian Tiger, you will discover these beautiful creatures and have fun through sto-ries, creating your own artwork, per-forming plays, and more!

No Bake Camping Cuisine

Learn how to cook without a stove or campfire. Each day you will be able to taste your own sample of no-cook cuisine. Enjoy a breakfast, lunch, snack, or dinner item while you play camping games. An additional cost of $10.00 is added for food supplies.

Kindergarten Fun - held at Berry Elementary School, 10155 Berry Road, Waldorf , MD

Kindergarten Fun is a camp where you will get to experience the fun you will have in kindergarten. We will make tasty snacks, read stories, create crafts, dance with Go Noodle, and participate in many other fun activities.

Tech Smart Kids

Learn new skills on making interactive games, and knowing the secrets of technology your teacher uses. Learn how to make games such as Kahoot and other interactive games that will get you ahead of your friends in technology.

Chess for All Levels

Whether you are a beginner or an ex-perienced chess player, enjoy a week of chess matches to perfect your skills. Learn the moves of all the chess pieces as well as special moves you can make to take the match.

All Things Science

“Travel” to amazing locations around the world. Experience the food, lan-guage, dress, games/activities from different cultures and countries. Use the passport you will make to get your stamps along the way.

Volleyball FUNdamentals

Want to learn about the game of vol-leyball and have FUN doing it? Come join us for some “beginner” drills and fun ways to learn the game.

Painting Magic

Learn the powers of paint! This art summer camp will teach you how to use different painting supplies to achieve a magic scene. Create batik paintings, landscapes, and water-color paintings to name a few.

Additional $10.00 added to cost for art supplies.

Minds in Motion

Get your mind moving this summer in more ways than you can imagine. Play games and activities to improve memory, coordi-nation, strategy, and puzzle solving. Discover your own learning style.

Kindergarten Fun - held at Berry Elementary School, 10155 Berry Road, Waldorf , MD

Kindergarten Fun is a camp where you will get to experience the fun you will have in kindergarten. We will make tasty snacks, read stories, create crafts, dance with Go Noodle, and participate in many other fun activities.

You will have fun using stories from some of the best children’s authors to work on creating your own stories and to even act them out. We explore the writings of Eric Carle, Jan Brett, Dr. Seuss and many more.

A STEMtacular Time!

Get ready to unlock your creativity! We will build basketball courts, cata-pults, playgrounds, and more! Most of the things we will be building are made out of items found right in your home! Come make a mess, have fun, and unlock your creativity!

Ever wonder how ice cream was in-vented before electricity? Ever mum-mify an apple? Want to learn the ba-sics of how a rocket works? Come join the fun to STEAM your way through key time periods in history.

Are you ready to fight crime? Get ready to solve your first mystery using fingerprints, footprints, eye witness testimony, and brain power! This week you will use all your senses to help serve justice at camp!

Dinosaur Discovery

T-Rex, Stegosaurus, Triceratops, oh my! Explore these animals that lived millions of years ago through books and crafts such as making fossils and dinosaur skin. It will be a dino-riffic time!

Paint Party

Come learn how to create landscapes, logos, and more! You will create a new painting each day using acrylic paint. No matter what your current skill level is, you will leave with artwork that you are proud of!

Additional $10.00 added to cost for art supplies.

Learn to be a Rockin’ Leader and Role Model

This week will show you how to be a an awesome leader and role model for others. You will have the chance to learn from great leaders, create your own leadership philosophy, practice interviewing skills, and more! Learn how to lead group activities for peers and younger audiences.

Entering the World of Harry Potter

Are you a Harry Potter fan? Would you like to learn about the wizarding world through games and hands-on activities? Join us for a week of spells, charms, potions, STEM activities, and more!

Beginner Crochet

Come learn a new craft—crochet! Learn how to create a starting chain, single crochet, and double crochet. Create hats, scarves, and purses. Crochet needles and yarn will be provided.

Krafty Kindergarten Kids- held at Berry Elementary School, 10155 Berry Rd., Waldorf, MD Get ready for Kindergarten by using your imagination, exploring and making creative crafts. Learn what it takes to be successful when you enter Kindergarten.

Clay Creations

Have fun making different types of clay and/or dough each day. You will then mold it into creations such as beads, pots, animals, and more!

Get ready to have fun while building your reading skills! We will open up the pages of your favorite authors and explore different ways to have fun while reading. Come join in on this fun adventure!

SCRATCH, Jr.

Scalawags and Mermaids

Arrgg, Matey! During this week, you will determine fact from fiction while sailing with pirates and singing with mermaids. Did pirates really make people walk the plank? Are mermaids real? Using technology, art, and history, even the most enthusiastic landlubber will find their “sea legs!”

Learn to Play Chess

The knight, rook, queen, and king are just some of the pieces in chess. If you would like to learn how to play or perfect your game, come out and learn the strategy of the game. Compete with a computer and other campers.

Spanish 101

Let’s get a jump start on learning the Spanish language. Learn basic Spanish words and phrases through the use of music, games, and have fun with interactive activities. Learn about all the computer sites and apps that you can use in the future.
