Dear Parents/Carers,

Last week it was my pleasure and privilege to attend the Whitebridge High School Captains’ and School Councillors’ investiture ceremony.

I felt very proud and honoured to see so many of our past students in the leadership team at WHS; Joshua Levin (School captain), Noah Levin (Yr 10 School Council rep), Isaac Seaward (Yr 9 School Council rep) and Cameron Lee (Yr 8 School Council rep). Congratulations boys, I’m sure you’ll make fine leaders!

We are Kind This week’s theme of World Kindness Week has caused our students to reflect on how

lucky they are to be away from bushfires and safe at CPS. The student leaders have planned a cake stall and out of uniform day for Friday 22 November, with all proceeds to be sent to Bobin Public School.

A separate note will be sent home with the newsletter with more details. As always your generous support will be greatly appreciated.

of soldiers who gave “Charlestown” as their place of address before they went to war.

The soil is displayed alongside the place name and lines the walls in the Hall of Service. Whenever you visit Sydney with your family, you might like to visit Hyde Park and see the new memorial.

We are Learners During Term 3 Mrs Gill wrote about the important strategies needed to be a successful learner:

Are active and committed Have a growth mindset Are curious Thrives on a challenge Is a risk taker and mistake maker Reflect on learning and makes goals Uses self talk and shares Knows what to do when stuck Seeks and uses feedback

Students are regularly reminded of when and how to use these strategies.

Food Wastage It has come to our attention that a large amount of food is being thrown into bins at recess and lunchtime. The students have been asked by teachers to take home all food that has not been eaten so that parents can see and talk to their children about this.

As the weather is variable at this time of year, lots of students do not feel as hungry when the temperature begins to climb. It would be appreciated if you would work with your children to ensure an appropriate amount of food is provided to reduce the wastage.

Photos Required For Year 6 Farewell Slide Show All Year 6 students have been asked to bring in or email a selection of photos of themselves that they would like to include in the Year 6 Farewell Slide Show.

This slide show is played on the night of the function. Only a small number of students have done so to date. Miss Hale will be pulling the slide show together in the next few weeks so we ask that everyone please get organised and select their favourite shots and get them to her by Monday 25 November (Week 7).

We have a copy of most students’ individual photos from Kinder to now (saved on our school drive). If you did not commence school at CPS in Kindergarten or the younger grades, please include some photos of this time at your former school. There is never a dry eye in the hall when it rolls on the night.

Additional photos we are looking for include special days over the years – eg:

Excursion shots- Canberra, Sydney, Oakvale Farm and Great Aussie Bush Camp.

Book Week Parade snaps Education Week Performance photos Athletics or Swimming Carnival pics Concert Photos Special events from over your child’s

years at CPS Ones with you and friends from CPS are

the ones that often make the final slideshow

What format should they be in? They can be scanned and sent as an email attachment to the school email:-

[email protected]

Please write attention Miss Hale – Year 6 Farewell- in the subject box OR They can be original photos sent in with your child’s name on the back. Miss Hale will scan them and then return the originals to your child.

Coffee and Chat It’s on again this week! Come and meet Miss Jodie and me at 2:45pm for a coffee and chat.

Thank you for making our school a special place filled with kindness and integrity.

Remembrance Day Recount

Remembrance Day by Andon

Every year on Remembrance Day we have a minute silence to remember our fallen soldiers who fought in war to protect our country. Young Australians fought for their country, men and women serving their king and country and who defended our country. Every year on 11th of November at 11 o’clock, we have a minute silence to remember the soldiers who died in the wars, Boer, 1st World War, 2nd World War, Vietnam, East Timor and Afghanistan. The reason we have a minute of silence on the 11th of November at 11 o’clock is because that is when the 1st World War ended in 1918 and we have a minute silence because we need a minute to think and remember the fallen soldiers. We remember them because they risked and gave their lives to protect us. We wear a poppy because it was the only plant that grew on the battle fields. Members of the European countries signed an Armistice. Remembrance Day was formerly called Armistice Day. The 1st World War cost a devastating conflict of 40 million lives. I am very thankful and happy that the brave soldiers fought for our country to keep us safe.

4/5 P Wow! We are already half way through the term!!

Enthusiastic 4/5P are enjoying new skills and experiences they are learning this term.

We have been enjoying our daily swimming lessons over the past couple weeks and it has been great to see everyone focused on improving their swimming skills. We have had some very hot days and a few that were a little chilly but that hasn’t stopped us from having a great time!

This term we are participating in an exciting PDHPE enrichment program for 6 weeks, delivered by the Life Skills Group. The enrichment program involves a range of activities aimed at building resilience, developing self-regulation, increasing self- awareness, practicing positive relationship skills, understanding inclusiveness and strengthening problem solving skills. The students are thoroughly enjoying their participation.

In weeks 5 and 6 we will be producing some wonderful artworks when we get hands on, exploring and creating a variety of visual art skills as part of the RAW Art program.

At the end of the term, we will have our end of year Presentation Day and Party Day.

We look forward to a fantastic Term 4! P & C News Canteen in 2020

Last P & C meeting on Tuesday the 19 November 2019 7pm.

Please send in any volunteer notes.

We have some exciting plans for the canteen next year, we're introducing shorter family friendly shifts. We have some very dedicated and talented parents working on revamping our menu to make it nutritious, delicious and appealing for the kids. We're focusing on reducing waste with our packaging and food waste. And we're trying to create a team of committed canteen volunteers who will enjoy contributing to the wellbeing of the children.
