Chart of CompetenCyProfessional Driver Trainer

Introduction to OccupationProfessional Driver Trainers are employed by public and private training schools, safety associations and by carriers to work with Class 1/A vehicle operators. All Professional Driver Trainers promote safety and facilitate in-class and/or in-vehicle learning. Some are involved in administering the training program and developing competency-based training programs. To provide in-vehicle learning, the Professional Driver Trainer must hold a Class 1/A licence.

Standards for Professional Driver TrainerThe following standards include checklists describing the competencies required by the Professional Driver Trainer as well as the required levels of proficiency of each competency to become a CTHRC Certified Professional Driver Trainer.

1 Proficiency LevelThe rating describes the basic required level of skill (proficiency) of an experienced trainer for National Certification. Not all competencies can be acquired without more formal training (college, teachers’ certificate, etc.). Depending on what work is being done, not all competencies are required.
