had our tag along caravan to the Fishing Rally. On the caravan we stopped at

the new Airstream Dealer, Midtown RV in Penticton and were hosted by the

owner, George Stayberg, and his Airstream salesman, Glen Joneson, to a visit

and luncheon. Two recent Airstream purchasers also attend and joined our

Unit. Next was the annual Fishing Derby at Sheridan Lake. Reports on these events are included in this newsletter.

A SPECIAL THANKS TO MARILYN VAN IDERSTINE

This is a personal thank you to Marilyn from Gayle and me.

While parked at the Palmer Rally our two little Yorkies, Izzie and

Gabbie were enjoying a stroll along the back of Marilyn’s trailer.

Marilyn was stepping out of the rear entry of the Airstream and heard

a threatening whoosh of sound and air. Out of the corner of her eye

she saw a BIG bald eagle targeting our dogs. Izzie and Gabbie were

trying to get under the grass!! Marilyn was understandably scared

and threw her arms in the air. Her actions in turn scared the eagle

and it abandoned its target, Izzie and Gabbie. Too close a call…

THANK YOU, MARILYN

Bob, Gayle, Izzie and Gabbie.

COMMUNITY SERVICE

We are always impressed by the number of aluminum pull tabs we receive from our members !!!! Remember to keep saving those tabs and bring them to the next rally as this is a great way to raise money for charity (in the case of BC Unit, proceeds go to sending children with se-vere or chronic illnesses and disabilities to summer camp at the Zajak Ranch for Children). We coordinate our dona-tions with Sharon Pentecost who, for 25 years, has been collecting aluminum for charitable organizations. Commu-nity Service Coordinators, Alex and Arlene Matches will also ensure any donation of warm women’s or children’s clothing goes to the Shelter for Abused Women and that donated foodstuffs are given to the Food Bank. Gene & Marilyn Van Iderstine have kindly offered to accept towels and blankets which they will take to the SPCA. Canned or packaged goods for the Food Bank are grate-fully accepted at any of our luncheons or rallies.

TAG ALONG CARAVAN – PALMER LAKE TO SHERIDAN LAKE

After a hot and sunny weekend at the Palmer Lake Rally, seven. Airstreams left for a casual trip to Sheridan Lake (May 12/16). They included the McGills, Matches, McQuarries, Van Iderstines (senior), Vanderheides, Richardsons and Hal-liwells. Our first scheduled stop was at British Columbia’s newest Airstream Dealer, Midtown RV located in Penticton. There we were met by owner George Stayberg and his exclusive Airstream Salesman, Glen Joneson. George and Glen gave us a tour of the facility including the sales, service, parts departments and several new Airstream units including the Interstate Motorhomes. George then took us all out to a fantastic luncheon at a local Chinese restaurant and several of us got a ride in their 2 new Interstate Motorhomes. Glen had invited two of his resent Airstream purchasers to join us for the day. They were Richard & Sharon MOFFAT and Norbert & Gayle Jelinski. Both couples joined our Unit and we welcome them. Our thanks to George and Glen for their hospitality and for a great tour and visit. After Midtown we continued up the Okanagan Valley to our first stop at Salmon Arm. Gene Van Iderstine had made arrangement to stay at the Elks Lodge campground. We stayed for two nights; some visited with friends and family and we all stocked our trailers with provisions for the rest of the trip. Our next stop was Kamloops for two nights staying at the Silver Sage Campground centrally located in the City along the Thompson River. The river was running fast and high. The McGills got the low site and kept a watchful eye on the rising water. Safe to say we left with about 12 inches to flood stage. Thursday morning we were off to our final destination at Loon Bay Resort, Sheridan Lake for the Fishing Derby. Bob Halliwell

Shannon & Larry Leslie (members #21949) are leading a circle island bus tour of Ireland in September of 2014. Shannon works for

Expedia Cruiseshipcenters at the Morgan Creek office and has put together this 2-week tour.

Several of our Unit have already signed up for this exciting holiday and, because of the popularity of this jaunt, Shannon has been able to book another 10 seats (she sold out the first 20 seats without advertising). For more information please call Shannon at either her office phone (604-542-9038) or at home (604-943-9909) or email her at her office (that address is [email protected]).

After having dug to a depth of 10 feet last year,

British scientists found traces of copper wire dating

back 200 years and came to the conclusion that their

ancestors already had a telephone network more than

Not to be outdone by the Brit's, in the weeks that

followed, an American archaeologist dug to a depth of

20 feet, and shortly thereafter, a story was pub-

lished in the New York Times: "American archaeolo-

gists, finding traces of 250-year-old copper wire,

have concluded that their ancestors already had an

advanced high-tech communications network 50 years

earlier than the British".

One week later, a member of Newfoundland's Dept.

of Mines and Resources reported the following:

"After digging as deep as 30 feet in Corner Brook,

Newfoundland - Jack Lucknow, a self-taught archae-

ologist, reported that he found absolutely nothing.

Jack has therefore concluded

that 250 years ago, Canada had

already gone wireless."

Just makes you pretty darn proud to be Canadian, don't it! EH...

You Can't Get There From Here

The adage we have often heard You can't get there from here Usually, with humor it is said Yet another meaning it may adhere Your view of an issue, may puzzle me From where I stand today But if I had trod the path you have I might see things another way Since I don't know the facts as you The least I can do, is speculate From that, I have no right to judge Just what position you should take And so it seems, there is a chasm Which neither you nor I May cross in each other's life Although sincerely, we may try Unless I go there, or you come here Each other's burdens, we don't know If we'll but apply, the Golden Rule Perhaps compassion, we both can show. ~ Colan L. Hiatt

ANNUAL FISHING RALLY ANNUAL FISHING RALLY ANNUAL FISHING RALLY ––– LOON BAY RESORT LOON BAY RESORT LOON BAY RESORT ––– SHERIDAN LAKE SHERIDAN LAKE SHERIDAN LAKE

The eighth annual fishing derby is now history. This year we were there over the long weekend and this allowed for some of our working members to attend. Overall, twelve units attended: Richardsons, Reimers (Paul and family), Reimers (Paul’s parents) McGills, Finleys, Don Rosie, McQuarries, Van Iderstines (senior), Vander-heides, VanIderstines (junior), Matches and Halliwells. Yes, the ice was off the lake, we enjoyed the best weather ever and the fish were biting. By Friday night everyone was there and we all enjoyed hot dogs around the fire. Saturday was our big pot luck dinner with a special dish provided of 100 delicious chicken wings. That evening we enjoyed the entertainment provided by our host, Marco. Audie supplied the ‘special syrup’ for Marco. The Loon Saloon was full so pole dancing was replaced by a unique form of chair dancing, you had to be there! Sev-eral events were hosted at the rally; a horse shoe tournament won by the McGills, a crib tournament won by Don Rosie (future member) and a paper airplane contest won by Vince VanIderstine. As a long time provider of special gifts for this event, Audie Finley was presented a frame of photographs of past fishing derbies that was prepared by Rita Richardson. We also enjoyed the Loon Bay breakfast, pub night and wrap-up pizza dinner. Audie Finley treated us all to a feed of freshly smoked rainbow trout, enough for two happy hours! Now, as to the main event, the fishing derby—this year we actually caught some fish, not many; but some. The winner of the derby was Norm Finley with a 7-lb rainbow (also an 8.5-lb before the derby started, and two 1-lb’ish). Second place Dave Richardson at 1.5-lb. Also placed, Rita Richardson 1-lb’ish and our youngest member, Ethan VanIderstine, with an almost 1-pounder. Congratulations to all. The planning has already started for the Ninth Annual Fishing Derby. Next year your hosts will be the McGills and I will help with the site bookings. Again, the rally will be over the May long weekend. Just a note, I have already got several people renewing for next year so don’t delay; early registrations are welcome. Thanks for attending and a special thanks to all those who helped out with the derby events. Bob and Gayle Halliwell
