You will remember that the PM, Theresa May, specially invited Chase Bridge to Downing Street recently. We took full advantage of the
opportunity and took the children in year 6 to visit locations in London that have housed key sources of power that have governed our
country for many centuries: the Tower of London; Westminster Abbey, where Kings and Queens have been crowned for the past
thousand years; and No.10 itself. We even got to walk through Parliament Square past a live demonstration – the power of the people! -
outside the Houses of Parliament. Being able to stand by the famous door at No.10 was rather special as well as sitting round the cabinet
table. We even got to meet Larry the cat, who was more interested in hugging a radiator than saying hello to us!
Meanwhile, year 2 were burning London down! Our apprentice arsonists have been learning about the Great Fire of London in their
history lessons and how the fire started and spread so quickly. They all carefully made houses and then we assembled them all into a model
version of our great city – then took a match to it to see how the fire spread and the buildings turned to ash. If you haven’t seen the
spectacular video of the event please have a look here.

Wow! Writing! Every term Mrs Edgoose, our lead English teacher, collects some of the best writing from across the school from all the
teachers and displays it for everyone to see. It is wonderful to see the progression in standards from nursery all the way to year
6 and see the development of handwriting, spelling, punctuation and grammar as well as the more sophisticated aspects of style
and being able to write for specific purposes and audiences. Being chosen for display is a real honour so a special well done to
all of the children who have had their writing selected for presentation. Below are some excellent examples:
London’s Burning! Dramatic scenes were re-enacted at Chase Bridge with children in year 2 burning down the City of London! This was all a part
of their Time Detectives curriculum theme for last half term where they have been learning about significant people and events
from 1666.
