It is with great pleasure that we invite you to join us at the 2018 Chatham-Kent Home Builders’ Association Parade of Homes. This annual event offers the residents of this amazing community an opportunity to come out and see what the home builders in Chatham-Kent have to offer.

What is Rubaroc?Often initially confused with cork, Rubaroc is a rubber surfacing that can be applied in indoor and outdoor environments.  Made of high-quality EPDM rubber granules combined with specially formulated urethane resin, Rubaroc is a virtually indestructible, non-slip surface that looks fantastic. Slip-fall accidents typically occur due to inadequate slip resistance between the foot or shoe and walking surface. Not only can these accidents result in a minor bruise, fractured arm or leg, or possibly a severe head injury, they happen quickly and without much warning. Water or ice, loose aggregate, slack or unfastened carpets, rugs or mats, or sudden change in elevation is all that is needed to tip someone’s balance.The aquatic industry can reduce or even eliminate these types of accidents is by utilizing rubber safety surfacing. From pool decks, splash pads and spas to exercise rooms, cafeterias and washrooms, many walking surfaces have the potential to create a slip-fall hazard when wet, loose, uneven or damaged.How is Rubaroc installed? The rubber granules are mixed with the resin on site, wet poured like concrete then hand finished with a trowel.  It can be a labour-intensive process but an experienced hand ensures quality every time.Can Rubaroc be applied over cracks in concrete or asphalt?Yes!   Even severe cracks can be filled and covered with Rubaroc without too much concern for tearing.  Minor cracks and expansion joints are easily covered and never seen again! How long does it take to install?Installation time can vary depending on design complexity or use of multiple colours etc., but the average pool deck, patio or porch is done

in a day. How soon can I walk on it?Several factors affect curing time - primarily temperature and humidity.   For outdoor projects in the summer months, Rubaroc installations are generally usable within 24 hours.  In the spring and fall, that may extend to 48 hours.     Is the rubber surfacing slippery when wet?  The rubber itself combined with a slightly textured surface ensures Rubaroc is non-slip even when wet, much like a rubber bath mat.   What substrates will Rubaroc cover?Rubaroc can be installed on most solid substrates such as concrete, asphalt, wood, aluminum, steel and some types of plastic.   It can be installed on compacted crushed stone for creating pathways or extending existing surfaces. How will the weather affect my Rubaroc?Rubaroc systems have been proven over 30 years to cope with the harshest environments including the scorching deserts of Arizona and the harsh winters of Canada. Can I shovel it?Yes!  Once cured, Rubaroc requires a hammer and chisel to take it up but we still recommend a shovel.Can I salt it?Yes!  One of the many advantages of EPDM rubber over similar alternatives is its high chemical resistance. Does Rubaroc get hot in the sun? Heating is most influenced by colour but generally, it’s cooler than

concrete and asphalt because the pores trap moisture and create airflow that helps maintain a low surface temperature. Will the colour fade? Everything fades in the sun.  It’s only a question of how much.  The EPDM used for Rubaroc installations is extremely UV stable and will maintain its full colour for many years.  Rubaroc has been used extensively in California, Texas, Arizona, Florida, the Caribbean and Australia, which are among the world’s harshest environments for UV.Is Rubaroc tested?Rubaroc has undergone many tests over the years including UV stability, critical fall heights, stain resistance and fungus & bacteria growth.  Each test has satisfied the strictest requirements.  All Rubaroc surfacing materials have ISO 9002 certification and have been tested by the NSF (National Sanitation Foundation). What happens to the water that drains through?The water filters through to the substrate and will naturally drain in whatever direction it’s allowed.How do I clean Rubaroc? Rubaroc looks and performs best with regular cleaning.   A garden hose with diluted dish soap can be used casually to remove light soiling but a carefully managed pressure washer is often required for tougher stains.  For really stubborn stains, we offer a specialized product called RubaClean as well as a cleaning service.   What is the warranty period?O’ROURKE SAFETY SURFACING offers a 10 year, limited warranty on the materials and installation.
