Check It Out!
What an amazing month
November was for the Vermil-
lion Public Library! Every bit of
the 11,000 square foot library
was relocated to the newly con-
structed 6,500 square foot addi-
tion to make way for the reno-
vation of the current facility.
Major assistance came from the
city crew who used hydraulic
stack movers to relocate the
book shelves….with the books
on them! Staff work areas have
been relocated and everything is
back in place, even if a little
cramped for the time being. We
are all adapting to the new loca-
tion and look forward to the
continued renovation and the
time in the spring when we can
spread out and move back to
the larger facility. If you have
not yet been in to visit us in
the new space, be sure to stop
by soon, entering through the
new entrance on the northwest
side of the building. The staff
are here to assist you in finding
the materials you need, but
you’ll want to spend a little
quiet time by the fireplace,
enjoying the warmth and glow
while you read the newspaper,
the latest issue of your favorite
magazine or a book from the
new book shelves. We’re fortu-
nate to have a basement in the
new facility, but this is only for
storage purposes at this time. It
also serves, in the interim, as
the home for Story Time ses-
sions. Eventually, one of the
rooms in the basement will
host the ongoing Book Sale
sponsored by the Friends of
the Vermillion Public Library.
Library Construction Update
We are delighted that Pam
Meylor, a devoted library pa-
tron, is donating 100% of the
proceeds from the sale of her
beautiful, handcrafted book-
marks to the funds being raised
to bring in a young adult au-
thor to do a presentation in the
spring. Susan Dennard, author
of Something Strange and Deadly,
the tale of 19th century vam-
pires in Philadelphia will be
hosted by the Vermillion Pub-
lic Library in the spring to help
kick off the new Young Adult
facilities at the library. The
Vermillion Public Library
Board of Trustees will match
monies raised by the fundrais-
ing efforts. These thin metal
bookmarks measure approxi-
mately 3 1/2 inches and are
adorned with a vintage type-
writer key...quite charming!
Each bookmark comes in a
hand stamped muslin draw-
string bag at a cost of $10.
Wonderful gifts and stocking
stuffers! There are a number of
ways you can purchase the
bookmarks. The Glass Door at
24 Center Street in Vermillion
has a number of them in the
shop, which they are gener-
ously offering to sell with
100% of the proceeds going
toward the library fundraising
goal. At this time, the library
also has a few bookmarks
available at the Circulation
Desk. In addition, feel free to
contact Pam Meylor directly
through her website to order a
bookmark with the typewriter
key of your choice.

The holiday season is upon us!! Many of us are thinking of gift possibilities for loved ones, trying to narrow the choices from among a myriad of possibilities. As a book-lover, long immersed in the world of libraries, I always turn to books and the cookbook possibili-ties this season are mouth-watering! Here are a few sugges-tions from the ones that have recently caught my eye!
Barefoot Contessa Foolproof: Recipes You Can Trust by Ina Garten, published by Clarkson Potter, list price $35, ISBN: 9780307464873 Garten shares her secrets for cre-ating amazing, deeply satisfying meals.
Smitten Kitchen Cookbook by Deb Perelman, published by Knopf, list price $35, ISBN: 978030759562 The first cookbook from a well-known food blogger, Perelman is dedicated to the idea that cooking should be a pleasure and the re-sults should be delicious. Sounds like this book will help the every-day cook make magic in the kitchen!
Jerusalem: A Cookbook by Yo-tam Ottolenghi and Samii Tamimi,
published by Ten Speed Press, list price $35, ISBN: 9781607743941 The authors explore the cross-cultural perspectives of food in their native city of Jerusalem. book.
The Dahlia Bakery Cookbook: Sweetness in Seattle by Tom Douglas, published by William Morrow, $35 list price, ISBN: 9780062183743 For the lover of sweets and con-fections, Tom Douglas, winner of the James Beard Outstanding Restaurateur Award, serves up some tasty possibilities from Seat-tle’s beloved Dahlia Bakery.

Festival of Lights and Stockings for Soldiers

the imagination. On a

you are not a

instead”
