TUESDAYMixed Media, Picasso Style Paint cats like Picasso in either primary or intermediate colors. Draw the cat’s face, frontal and profile, with eyes of different sizes or shapes and ears. Try drawing with eyes closed, using lines to produce a rooster in glue and pastels, then blend the colors to achieve depth. Students will learn fun techniques to reacreate Picasso’s signature style.

Polymer Clay Miniature FoodClimb into a miniature kitchen and create a feast of fancy dishes. A picnic of hot dogs and watermelon? Spaghetti & meatballs? Or perhaps pancakes with syrup and bacon. You’ll never want this class to end.

Polymer Clay Fairy House Make an adorable tiny fairy house complete with accessories. Learn the magic of polymer clay as you roll, pinch and slice.

WEDNESDAYSunny Sunflowers and Poppin’ PoppiesEnjoy some outside time while creating these flowers, using tools like Q-tips to texture the center of the sunflower. Watercolor, oil, pastels, and your imagination will make these flowers shine. We will experiment in this fun, colorful class.

Open Studio with Miss SueThis open studio class offers you the freedom to work on ANY project you want! Come to class with a project in mind and Miss Sue will help you develop and finish your artwork at your own pace. This is a chance to experiment with new mediums, practice new skills, and develop your personal artistic style!

Tie-Dye 2-Day WorkshopTie-Dye is a fun and fabulous way to add color to your life! We’ll talk a little chemistry and history while we dye. Participants should bring 2-4 100% cotton T-shirts/garments, new or used. Dress for mess.

Creative Clay CupsMake a set of cups out of clay! You’ll use hand-building techniques and tools to create texture and details. Fired clay projects will be ready approximately two weeks after class.

H’Art of PhotographyEnjoy the heart and art of photography in two very full sessions! Learn how to zoom in, zoom out, and what to focus on for the best effect. Capture lighting with shadows, sunlight, and flash. We will print your photos in color plus black and white, then the artistry begins!  You will bring several of your masterpieces home with you!Bring from home: a digital camera you are familiar with, plus batteries fully charged. Let the office know 1 week in advance if you need to borrow a camera.

WEDNESDAY:Art Passports: Art of IndiaContinue your summer art adventure by making art inspired by Indian cultures. We will explore different mediums and techniques as we celebrate the architecture and animals of India. Look for more world culture art lessons with Lisa and earn a specially-designed sticker and passport!

ShiboriLearn this Japanese textile treatment that involves folding, twisting, bunching, binding, and dipping cloth in dye to produce lovely patterns. Dress for mess.

Embroided ShirtGive new life to old (or new) clothing by learning to hand stitch embellishments. You can stitch anything from your zodiac sign to a soccer ball. Templates will be provided, but free hand is also encouraged! Bring an item of clothing to class.

Makerspace: Bottle SculptureWhat kind of creature can you make with a plastic bottle, basic art supplies, and a variety of craft materials? Come to this class and find out! With imagination – and a hot glue gun – there’s no limit to what you can make!

THURSDAY Cookie Cutter WatercolorUse cookie cutters to create a unique watercolor collage. Trace your favorite cookie cutters as stencils. Watercolor inside or outside of these lines – choose your own adventure!

Make Your Own Monster StuffieDesign your character, cut it from cloth, stuff it and decorate it with a world of embellishments.

“Painting” with Wool Explore the world of wool fiber and create a needle felted “painting”. Learn how a simple cookie-cutter shape can be transformed into a colorful 3D sculpture or hanging orna ment. You’ll make 1-2 works in class and take home some tools for future interest.

TUESDAYColorful Textile Wall HangingUsing permanent markers and a fun dye technique, we will create colorful designs on white fabric, then tear the fabric into strips and tie them onto a branch to create a beautiful, organic wall hanging.

Colored Pencil Abstract Animals Get inspired by paper cut-outs and coloring book images to create a brilliant abstract animal. You will work with an animal outline created from a template provided in class. Fill in your animal with dazzling patterns and textures!

Amazing Artists: Georgia O’KeefeGeorgia O’Keeffe lived to be 99 years old and is one of the most important American artists in history. Through picture books and art-making we will learn about this important American artist and the BIG flowers and desert landscapes she painted.

Beginning Painting With PicassoLearn the styles of two famous artists inspired by the book, “When Pigasso Met Mootisse.” Bold lines, intense colors, and crazy shapes will make you laugh as you create cubist faces like Picasso. You will also paint a funky bowl of fruit in the style of Matisse. Ages 6 and up welcome!

Upcycled Knotted RugCraft a neat accessory for your room! This rug is made from scrap fabric that you will transform into a work of art. You will also play games and get to know each other as you create.

Loveable LlamasUse a variety of art materials to make art inspired by this popular and funny South American pack animal. We will draw, color, and craft the day away as we make cute and colorful llama art.

THURSDAYBecome a World Labyrinth Explorer! (Two Class Series)Embark on a treasure hunt across the WBCA labyrinth and grounds! Follow clues, uncover labyrinth “art-i-facts,” and make discoveries. Later, explore a variety of finger labyrinths and learn about their history, design, and uses. Discover why a labyrinth is not the same as a maze and create your own labyrinth in class!

Collaborative Dinosaur DioramaWork together to create a lost, magical, Jurassic world! Each student will have a job to create different parts of this landscape and learn interesting facts along the way. We will use mixed media to create an otherworldly world!

Paint a PetPaint an abstract portrait of a pet or animal from a photo. Use color to express the personality of your furry friend! This class will help you to explore creative uses of acrylic paint. No experience necessary. Please bring an 8x10 reference photo of your animal.

WEEK FIVE – JULY 7, 8 & 9

TUESDAYAmazing Artists: Frida KahloLearn about Mexican artist Frida Kahlo by making colorful art inspired by her art and life. Whether drawing, painting or crafting we will use bright colors and traditional Mexican folk-art motifs to celebrate this amazing artist.

Batik Art Create a hand-dyed wall hanging or curtain. Batik is similar to tie-dye. Learn this simple, traditional technique to create your own funky fabric!

Animal Pinch PotsCreate adorable animal mini-pots using earthenware clay. We will learn some basic hand-building techniques while making cute pots to hold your tiniest treasures. Pieces will be fired and ready for pick-up a couple weeks after the class. Class limit: 12 students. Sign up early!

Clay Fairy HouseLegend has it that if you build a fairy house and place it in a suitable area, a fairy will come to live there. We’ll design a nice house and create furniture and accessories. Fired projects will be ready in approximately 2 weeks after class.

WEDNESDAYArt Passports: Ancient EgyptThe art of ancient Egypt is beautiful and inspiring and archaeologists are still making new discoveries! Have fun making art inspired by this fascinating culture using many art mediums. Look for more world culture art lessons with Lisa this summer and earn a specially-designed sticker and passport!

TUESDAYPaper Mache Pets (Two Day Class)Make your own cat or dog sculpture with newspaper and recyclables! The first day we will build the basic structure, and then cover it with layers of paper and glue. The second day we will take the dried sculpture and add color, pattern and detail with paint and craft materials. Class limit: 8 students. Sign up early!

Create a Play: Magic School BusCreate and perform an original play based on the theme Magic School Bus! Work collaboratively with your peers to develop the story, setting, characters, dialogue, and staging. Throughout this process-driven class experience, you will engage in theatre games and activities to hone your artistic skills. Perform your play for family and friends on the final day of class at 11:30 AM.

How to RegisterClass capacity is limited and classes are filled on a first-come, first-serve basis. You must register in advance through the office, mail or online. We do not assume that students will return to a class they are currently taking or took in the past. Early registration helps us reduce class cancellations. Instructors do not take registrations. Registrations require payment at least three business days prior to the first class start date. Reminders are sent to students via email. Late registrations will be taken if space permits. If a class is canceled, a full refund will be issued.• Mail the completed form below with your check or VISA/MasterCard/Discover/

Membership InformationStudent tuitions cover direct costs of instructors and supplies, while memberships and other contributions help cover critical operating expenses.

MEMBERS RECEIVE A 20% DISCOUNT on all classes and workshops, invitations to our special events, news and updates by mail, and reduced fees on member art shows. Look for our Members FREE classes. Your tax-deductible contribution helps support our many programs, and all gifts, great and small are appreciated! Memberships are valid for one year. First time students may deduct a one-time 15% from their tuition fee.
