LEADERSHIP ALIGNMENT/PERFORMANCE DISCUSSION AGENDA

Purpose: To achieve leadership alignment and identify and agree upon the opportunities for improvement.

1. LEADERSHIP ALIGNMENT DISCUSSION BOSS'S DISCUSSION TIPS

a) Identify the Leadership Skills where there is alignment between the Self (leader) and the Boss.

Acknowledge where there is alignment and ask if he/she has any further questions.

b) Identify any Leadership Skills identified by the Self as critical, but were not selected by the Boss.

Seek to understand why he/she chose the particular Leadership Skills as critical. Don't put the person on the defensive or cross-examine.

c) Identify any Leadership Skills identified by the Boss as critical, but were not selected by the Self.

Explain why you selected those Leadership Skills as critical.

d) Gain agreement on which Leadership Skills are not in alignment and are most critical to the organization's success.

There is no rule that you cannot have more than six critical Leadership Skills. Remember – less is more!

2. LEADERSHIP PERFORMANCE DISCUSSION BOSS'S DISCUSSION TIPS

a) Discuss the TALENTS identified for the Self. Ask how we can build on those Talents.

b) Discuss the Performance GAPS identified for the Self.

Explain your assessment in any Leadership Skill labeled as a Gap.

Ask him/her to assess his/her performance in any Leadership Skill labeled as a Gap.

Be prepared to share suggestions so that he/she knows what to do to eliminate the performance Gaps and Focus Areas.

c) Discuss the FOCUS Areas identified for the Self. Share suggestions.

3. TAKING IMMEDIATE ACTION BOSS'S DISCUSSION TIPS

a) Discuss the OPPORTUNITIES for immediate improvement.

Prioritize the opportunities for immediate improvement.

Ask what he/she plans to do to improve in these areas.

b) Identify which of the CheckPoint Skill Builders will be used to help with the leader's development.

Ask which specific CheckPoint Skill Builder he/she will use.

c) Set a date and time for the follow-up meeting. Remember – be supportive. REMEMBER: The Boss is responsible for a successful Leadership Alignment/Performance Discussion.

LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT PLAN MEETING AGENDA

Meeting Purpose: To approve a Development Plan that results in improvements in each of the leadership skill areas identified by the Self and Boss. It is your responsibility to schedule the meeting and to lead the meeting.

AGENDA ITEMS TIPS

1. Identify each Development Need. Explain why you chose the three specific Development Needs.

2. Identify and discuss the Development Goals for each of the Development Needs.

Make sure you discuss what is to be accomplished, who will be involved, when will the activities be completed and what resources are required.

Be prepared to identify how you will specifically know if you have accomplished this goal and if improvement has been made in this area.

3. Provide feedback about your "AHA" experiences.

Identify "AHA" experiences that helped complete your work with each of the CheckPoint Skill Builders.

DISCUSS THE K-S-S METHOD FOR THE INDIVIDUAL DEVELOPMENT GOALS

4. Identify what you will KEEP Doing to improve in this development area. (Explain why)

5. Identify what you will STOP Doing to improve in this development area. (Explain why)

6. Identify what you will START Doing to improve in this development area. (Explain why)

REPEAT THE PROCESS FOR EACH DEVELOPMENT GOAL 7. Discuss any other topics or issues that help you

achieve your Development Goal and improve your overall Leadership Skills.

Remember, listen carefully to the feedback from your boss. Always seek to understand, before being understood.

8. Agree on a schedule to complete the CheckPoint Skill Builder. Align priorities.

9. Establish a date, time and place to meet with your boss to discuss your progress and to monitor your Leadership Development Plan.

Consider meeting every three weeks over a three-month period.

10. Set a date and time to retake your follow-up CheckPoint Online Survey.

Set the date between 10 – 12 months from this date.

11. Close the meeting by thanking your Boss for supporting your personal and professional development.

Use the two most powerful words in the world – "Thank You!"
