It’s Cold & Wet!! As you are aware, we have outdoor recess during sunny and warm or cold and rainy weather here at Chain Lake. Now that the colder, rainier fall weather has started to make an appearance, we strongly recommend that your child be dressed ap-propriately for whatever kind of weather that may come up. Dressing in layers is always a good idea. Please be sure to

send your child to school with a warm jacket and boots, hat and gloves when appropriate. Sending your student to school with extra clothes in their backpack is also a good idea. Make sure that all clothing items are clearly marked with your child’s name on the gar-ment. Thank you for your help with keeping our Cheetahs warm and dry!

November 12, 2015 Dear Parents, Thank you for your support of Chain Lake Elementary and the investments you make in your children’s lives.

We are so excited to introduce you to this semester’s only major fundraiser, the Apex Fun Run! The Apex Fun Run Fundraiser will last for approximately 2 weeks and will kick off with a Pep Rally on Thursday, November 19th. Please look for your child’s Pledge Kit that they will receive on that day. We will have emails coming from

your teachers. Please feel free to visit www.apexfunrun.com to hear about this interactive program that helps schools all over the country raise money, while promoting leadership and fitness in the classes. This year's character theme is Dream Team, where students will join Johnny Dreamer and the Apex team in an exciting journey to learn what it means to become a Dream Team Leader:

o Dive In! o Resourceful! o Elevate Others! o Attitude Check! o Make A Difference!

During the Apex Fun Run, students are challenged to get pledges for the laps they will run on Wednesday, December 2nd to help their school. Students will run for 30 minutes and average 26-36 laps, with the maximum amount of laps being 36 (each lap is 1/16th of a mile). Sponsors can pledge $1, $2, $5 or any other amount for each lap students run. All participants will receive an access code that allows you to enter pledges online. Funds raised this year will be going to the school to pay for a variety of school needs! The Apex Fun Run is for every student regardless of financial giving. All students will receive Apex bands, race-day lap counters, and team awards. We invite all parents to come to the Apex Fun Run and share in this great event! The time for the Apex Fun Run is Wednesday, December 2nd between 9:30 AM and 2:30 PM. You can help our school be successful in the following four ways:

Help connect your child to potential sponsors (family/friends) to acquire pledges. Ask your child about the “Dream Team” character lessons, and download the “Apex Fun Run”

App! Come to the Apex Fun Run and don’t forget to invite others to attend our fun-filled community

event on our field. Help volunteer for the race! We need a few parents to help cheer on students and mark laps. If

you would like to volunteer for your student’s race, please contact the Chain Lake PTA by emailing them at [email protected].

Thank you again for your continued support—we are so excited to begin this journey with you! Sincerely, Chris Espeland The Chain Lake PTA Principal

2015-16 Transportation Bulletin

When the weather outside is frightful… Monroe Public Schools is dedicated to ensuring a safe ride to school for your child(ren) in all weather conditions. Transportation will only be provided when it is determined conditions are safe. If school is canceled due to weather or another emergency, Monroe Public Schools will use June 22, 23 and 24 (in this order) in 2016 as days to make up lost class time. Students and their families will be notified prior to using these dates.

There will be times when transportation services will either be canceled or significantly altered to ensure the safety of our students. The information that follows explains potential changes that could occur. School will always be open unless a Monroe Public Schools’ closure announcement is recorded on the School Schedule HOTLINE (360.804.2950). Changes to transportation services are usually decided by 6 a.m., however with the speed our weather changes some decisions may be made later. A Bus HOTLINE (360.804.2951) has also been established to provide information when school buses are running late due to road construction, traffic or other delays. Families will find school and bus schedule changes by:

Checking your family’s email - (sign up for an email alert notice* or Twitter on the schools’ website) Checking the schools’ website at www.monroe.wednet.edu Calling the School Schedule HOTLINE (360.804.2950)

* Visit flashalert.net/login to subscribe to the email alert system. Typical school schedule announcements made during bad weather may include:

Schools Closed - All Monroe Public Schools will be closed. It is understood that all school meetings and after-school activities are automatically canceled unless specific announcements are made to the contrary. If the weather improves, families may listen to the School Schedule HOTLINE (360.804.2950) for updated information about events and activities.

Two Hours Late - Schools will start two hours late. Buses will arrive at the bus stop two hours later than usual. Schools will close at the regular times. (NOTE: See inside pages on how this affects school schedules and special programs.)

If school starts 2 hours late then the following

will occur, there will be:

No Pre-school for the session scheduled that morning

No “zero” hour classes at Monroe High School

No transportation to ROTC

No transportation to programs or schools outside the district

(Includes Sno-Isle Skil ls Center which follows the Mukilteo School District’s schedule)

Limited Bus Transportation - Monroe Public Schools will be open with l imited transportation service. (See listing of l imited routes.) Limited transportation service means some bus routes will travel a different route. Please note: Posted weight restrictions on local roads apply to school buses.

Page 7: CHEETAH NEWSLETTERedu.sismadesimple.net/SCHOOLS/CLE/NEWSLETTERS/11-12-15.pdf · 11/12/2015  · November 12, 2015 Principal Christine Espeland Dean of Students Romana Plesa Guidance

CAUTION: When weather changes during the day road conditions will be reviewed. Any changes to service will be reported through email alerts, Twitter, on the schools’ website and the Bus HOTLINE (360.804.2951). In addition, bus routes may attempt to run, however upon arrival at each area, the bus driver may decide a safety hazard exists and will not be able to complete the scheduled route. Drivers will use alternate routes to bypass the more dangerous roads. (See limited routes)

In this case, a message is recorded on the Bus Hotline (360.804.2951) and no child leaves the bus without previous signed permission from their family or contact being made with families to ensure there is a safe place for the child. In the event a parent or guardian cannot be reached the child is returned to either the school or the Transportation Office, 1410 W. Main Street in downtown Monroe.

We strive to provide the best service to our families so when the weather improves by the afternoon, buses may be able to complete regular routes in the afternoon that were unable to be traveled in the morning. This information is also recorded on the Bus Hotline (360.804.2951). PLEASE NOTE: No announcement means Monroe Public Schools’ classes are in session with normal transportation provided for all students. Families may confirm school schedules by calling the school closure line (360.804.2950) for a recorded message. When limited Transportation Routes are announced, buses will not travel: Maltby area – East Side of Hwy 522

Cualquier modificación en el servicio se comunicará a través de alertas en el correo electrónico, en el sitio de Internet y la Línea directa del autobús.
