WELL COMPLETION REPORT LOC: HYS, RIG: S-6 (NHK # 639)

1. INTRODUCTION & GEOLOGICAL PROSPECTS:

The exploratory location HYS lies towards south - west of the recently drilled well NHK-

626 (Loc. HXC) in the South-Kathalguri structure. The location is planned to be drilled as a

deviated (J-bend) well from an existing plinth of NHK-588 (Loc. HSY) to probe hydrocarbon

prospects within Upper Tipam reservoirs. Structurally, this location is expected to be around 20 m

up-dip with respect to the well NHK-626 (Loc. HXC) at Tipam-40 Sand top level. Neighboring well

NHK-626 (Loc. HXC) is presently producing gas @ 25,000 scumd through 6 mm bean with an

FTHP: 60 Kg/cm2 from 2357 m Upper Tipam Sand.

The objective depth of the well was: 3082 m MD/ 2450 m TVD.

2. CONDUCTOR STAGE:

Hole Size: 17 ½ inch

Interval: (0-156) m

The well was spudded on 25.01.2017 and 17 ½ inch conductor stage of the well was drilled

down to 156m. The hole was then cleaned thoroughly and cased with 13 3/8 inch casing with shoe

at 154.47m. It was then cemented using 700 sacks of API Class-G N.S. Dalmia cement of average

slurry density 113.15pcf on 27.01.2017.

2.1 FLUID DISCUSSION

2.1.1 Mud Type: Spud mud

For the conductor stage (17 ½” hole) drilling, a (7-8) % Bentonite suspension that was pre-

hydrated for effective functioning with a density of 66pcf was used. MF viscosity was generally

controlled at around 65 sec/quart. The spud mud was tailored without any inhibition.

Property Programmed Actual

Density (pcf) 66-67 66

MF Viscosity (sec/ quart) 60-55 65

2.1.2 Rheology & API Fluid loss:

At these maintained values of Mud Weight and MF Viscosity, an adequate hole cleaning

was achieved without observing any problem while drilling. As a precautionary measure, Hi-

Viscous pills were pumped for aiding towards effective hole cleaning. For this section API fluid

loss does not have any significant role towards the stability of the hole. No fluid loss control

additives were incorporated in the mud system.

2.1.3 Solids control:

6

The solid control equipment consisted of two double decker Shale Shakers of screen sizes 16X16

mesh each, Desander having two nos of functional cones and Desilter containing 20 nos of

functional cones. The functioning of all solid control equipment was satisfactory. The sand trap tank

was dumped as and when required for effective solids removal from the system.

3. ISOLATION STAGE:

Hole Size: 12 ¼ inch

Interval: (156-2112) m

After allowing the cement to set and necessary well head hook-up, arrangement was made

for running in 12 ¼” new bit. Ran in bit and tagged cement top at 138m. Cleaned cement and drilled

down fresh formation down to 174m (KOP). After circulating and conditioning mud, the bit was

pulled out of the hole and the same bit was lowered with new M/s Almansoori deviation BHA.

Circulated and drilled down to 467m. During drilling, there was a leakage observed in standpipe

vibrating hose hammer union. The problem was attended and rectified by keeping the bit inside

casing shoe. The 12 ¼” hole was further drilled down to 962m. The bit was pulled out of the hole

(PO bit condition: T2B2G1/8) and ran in new 1-1-7 TCR bit. The hole was then drilled down to

isolation stage target depth of 2112m using two more TCR bits.

Circulated & conditioned mud system and a free wiper trip were made upto 697m. Pulled

the bit out of the hole. Made a hole probing trip with two stabs @ 0m and 10m prior to OH survey.

POOH bit with PO bit condition of T3B2G1/4. WLD recorded ACRT-SP-GR-SDL-DSN-CALI-

BSAT-IDT log in the range 2112m-140m. Loggers’ depth=2112m & BHT=135 deg F. Made a hole

probing trip with stiff hook-up prior to casing lowering. Lowered 9 5/8-inch casing and landed with

shoe at 2108.38m and float collar at 2095.75m. The casing was then cemented on 15.02.2017 using

2300 Sacks of Class-G NS Dalmia cement with average slurry densities of 101.6pcf and 113.75pcf

for Lead and Tail slurries, respectively. The cement slurry was displaced with 440bbl of 68pcf mud.

Plug bumped @4397 stks against calculated 4234stks with bumping pressure of 1950psi

(Eff=96.3%). Return slurry surfaced density 104pcf. BPV holding was found Ok. WOC.

3.1 FLUID DISCUSSION

3.1.1 Mud Type: BS-CMC Mud System

The mud from the previous section was pretreated for possible cement contamination with

sodium bicarbonate and used for drilling of this section. The mud density and MF Viscosity were

maintained in the range of 67-68pcf and 50-60 sec respectively.

3.1.2 Rheology & API Fluid Loss:

The Rheological and fluid loss properties were maintained by incorporating CMC(HVG),

CMC(LVG) and PAC(R). Linseed Oil was used as lubricant during deviation drilling. Good hole

cleaning was maintained throughout the drilling of this section and also hi-viscous pills were

pumped for effective hole cleaning. No caving or sloughing was observed over shakers. pH range

was maintained in the range 9.0-9.5 for optimum performance of chemicals and to avoid corrosion.

3.1.3 Solids Control:

The solid control equipments used were two Shale Shakers of screen sizes 20X20 (upper

deck) and 20X40 (lower deck) each, Desander and Desilter. These screens were not able to control

the solids component within the acceptable limit. Therefore, the mud was diluted constantly with

water and sand traps were dumped during trips for lowering the solid content.

4. OIL STRING STAGE:

Hole Size: 8 ½ inch

Interval: (2112-3085) m

After completion of necessary well head hook-up, arranged for drilling the oil string stage of

the hole with an 8 ½ inch bit. Ran in 8 ½ inch TCR (1-1-7) bit & tagged cement top @ 2095m.

Cleaned cement, drilled out F/C, shoe followed by drilling fresh formation down to 2114m.

Circulated & conditioned mud and conducted PIT @440psi with EMW=79.2pcf. The test was

found OK. The bit was then changed with a new TCR (1-1-7) bit and lowered with deviation BHA.

Drilled 8 ½” hole further down to 2703m using one more TCR bit. While reaming at 2703m, tight

pull was observed @2691m and suddenly the string got stuck. Worked on string without success.

Arranged for and spotted 50bbls of High Speed Diesel (HSD) treated with 5% pipelax covering

382m in the annulus and keeping 10 bbls inside string. It was then allowed a soaking time of 6

hours with keeping the string in compression. Worked on string and the string got released

immediately after half an hour of spotting. Two DP singles were pulled out with the pump on and

circulated out oil prior to pulling out for bit change. *Survey report: @ 2675m (TVD=2140.66m);

Inc=41.10deg; Azm=359.58. After pulling out upto 1851m, operations remain suspended due to

bandh called by local people till 10:30 am of next day. The bit was pulled out of the hole and ran in

new TCR (1-1-7) bit with new BHA down to bottom @2703m freely. Drilled further down to

3082m and Oil String Stage drilling was terminated.

Circulated mud system and pulling out bit upto 2650m for a wiper trip. Ran in bit and got

held up at 3007m. Washed down to 3019m and ran in bit to bottom freely. Circulated and pulled bit

out of the hole for OH survey. WLD lowered PEX-HRLA-GPIT log & got held up @2958m.

Recorded log in the range 2958m - 2108m (BHT= 79.99degC). Made a free hole probing trip with

stiff hook-up prior to casing lowering. Drilled down to 3085m (final drilled depth) and circulated

thoroughly. The bit was then pulled out of hole. Lowered 5 1/2" casing and landed successfully with

shoe at 3081.32m (F/C at 3057.49m). Cemented the casing by using 2200 bags of API class G

cement wet blended with SLB chemicals. The cement slurry with slurry density of 102pcf for lead

and 118pcf for tail was displaced by 222.5bbls of 70pcf mud. Plug bumped at 2800psi and 2294stks

against calculated 2168stks. Pump efficiency was 94.5%. BPV holding OK. WOC. Completed

working on well head and DP breaking. Tested WF spool @4000psi and found OK.

4.1 FLUID DISCUSSION

4.1.1 Mud Type: XC-Polymer-PAC-Polyol Mud System

8

This section was drilled with Bentonite-barytes semi-dispersed mud treated with XC-

Polymer, PAC(R), CMC(LVG) etc. Mud weight was maintained as 68-71pcf and MF viscosity

ranges from 50-46 sec/quart in this section. No caving or sloughing was observed over shakers.

4.1.2 Rheology & Lubricity:

The Rheological properties were maintained properly by using XC-Polymer. Linseed oil and

Polyol were used as lubricants. Drilling Detergent was also used during drilling of clay formation.

The pH of the mud system was maintained in the range of 9.0-9.5 for optimum performance of the

chemicals. Formaline was used as the Bio-polymers are easily susceptible for bacterial degradation.

4.1.3 API Fluid Loss:

Fluid loss was controlled by addition of CMC(LVG) and PAC (R) during initial stages

whereas, PAC (SL) and Resinex were judiciously used during later part of drilling.

4.1.4 Solids Control:

In oil string stage, screens of upper decks of both the shakers were changed to initially

20X30 and then to 30X40 whereas, the screens of lower decks were changed to initially 40X40 and

then to 40X60 for better performance. Other solid control equipments used were Desander and

Desilter. These screens were not able to control the solids component within the acceptable limit. So

the mud was diluted constantly with water and the sand trap was dumped occasionally during trips

to keep the total solids under control.

4.2 Downhole Problem: Extra sheet is attached for Pipe Stuck Case study.

4.3 HOLE STABILITY: As per caliper log analysis of 8 ½” hole, it was evident that 33.6% of the

hole was true gauge. The hole was found to be stable throughout the drilling of the 8 ½” section. No

caving or sloughing was observed over the shakers.

9

5. PRODUCTION TESTING:

Arranged for and ran in rotovert and tagged cement top @3057m. Circulated & pulled the

rotovert out of the hole for cased hole survey. WLD made a Junk basket trip and recorded CBL-

VDL-GR-CCL-CAST log in the range 3057m-800m. As per CBL-VDL log interpretation, the

cement bonding was recorded to be good to moderate as the amplitude values of the log lies

between 5mV-50mV. However the zone of interest shows below 10mV amplitude value.

After log, Ran in open ended 2 7/8” tbg down to 3056m with intermediate change over to

water. Changed over the well fluid from mud completely to 2% Sodium Formate solution. Pulled

out open ended (OE) tbg back up to 2539m. Rigged up X-mass tree, pressure tested surface lines

@3000psi and conducted 5 1/2" casing hermetical testing @ 2500psi, found OK. Rigged down X-

mass tree and pull out open ended tbg out of the hole. Ran in hydraulic packer with GLVs and set

packer @2784.76m. Tested packer @2900psi, but observed full bore return through annulus

indicating failure of the packer. Unset the packer and pulled the packer out of the hole. Ran in new

Hydraulic packer with GLVs and set packer @2775.21m. Tested the same @2000psi and found

OK. Lowered the fluid level by 800m. Schlumberger perforated the well in the range 2848m-

2854m. No immediate pressure build up was observed. Unloaded cumulative 131.5bbls of well

fluid by applying N2 shots. Shut in well and observed SITP = 1300 psi, SICP = 700 psi. Opened up

the well and self unloaded 1.5bbls, cumm = 133bbls of well fluid accompanied by gas. Shut in Well

with SITP=1300psi and SICP=550psi.

Incident:

Drilling was continued from 2694m to 2703m using TCR (1-1-7) with Almansoori deviation BHA.

While picking up the string for reaming before new connection observed tight pull @ 2691m. Tried

to release the same (Max Weight 180T), but failed and pipe got stuck at depth 2691m. Worked on

string in the range 180T-60T without success.

Action Taken immediately after stuck:

A hi-viscous lubricating pill was pumped with continuous working on string in the range 180T-30T

without success.

24

Observations:

i. Normal circulation with normal return.

ii. Normal pressure behaviour during circulation.

iii. No cutting / caving was observed on shaker screens during circulation.

Oil spotting:

A 50bbl of HSD pill treated with 5% Pipelax was pumped and displaced with 121bbl of 71pcf mud

covering 382m in annulus & keeping 10bbl inside string. Allowed to soak for 6 hrs with keeping the

string in compression. Worked on string & pipe got released @ 170 T. PO two DP singles with

pump on and then circulated out oil to condition mud system.

Remarks:

The stuck seems to be differential one as the mud weight was just raised to 71pcf from 70pcf

considering policy schedule.
