Your itineraryDay 1: Board your overnight flight to Berlin!

Day 2: Berlin

Arrive in BerlinWelcome to historic Berlin, once again the German capital. For manyyears the city was defined by the wall that separated its residents. Inthe last decade, since the monumental events that ended Communistrule in the East, Berlin has once again emerged as a treasure of artsand architecture with a vibrant heart.

Walking tour of BerlinStroll among the cafés, restaurants and embassies of the elegant,tree-lined Unter den Linden, sometimes known as theChamps-Élysées of Berlin. Your Tour Director will show you the city'smost famous sites as you continue to the Reichstag, Germany'sParliament. The building, constructed in the late 19th century, was theseat of the Weimar Republic government until it was seized by theNazis in 1933. Sir Norman Foster's glass dome, added to the top ofthe Reichstag between 1995 and 1999, is now one of the city's mostrecognizable landmarks, offering fantastic views of Berlin from its top.

Day 3: Berlin

Guided sightseeing of BerlinRide past the Kaiser Wilhelm Gedächtniskirche (left unrestored as areminder of the ravages of war) and down the glitteryKurfürstendamm, Berlin's liveliest street. Pass the RathausSchöneberg, where 1,500,000 West Berliners flocked to hearPresident Kennedy's famous “Ich bin ein Berliner” speech in 1963. Onyour way to the Eastern sector, pass the Reichstag, former seat of theparliaments of the German Empire and the Weimar Republic. Arrive atthe Brandenburg Gate, once the symbol of the undeclared Cold War,and now the symbol of a reunited Berlin. It was at this gate that thefamous images of East and West Berliners dancing atop thecrumbling Berlin Wall were filmed and broadcast around the world. Asyou see where the Berlin Wall actually stood, imagine the bleakwatchtowers and piercing spotlights that guarded “the border” untilNovember 1989. Journey down Unter den Linden, once consideredone of the world's most elegant boulevards. You will also see the siteof Checkpoint Charlie, which once guarded the border between Eastand West Germany.

Visit the Topography of Terror MuseumThe Topography of Terror Museum is located on the site of the formerSS headquarters in Berlin. The outdoor exhibit in the former basementcells focuses on the regime's systemized rule of terror, and the fate ofsome of the individuals who were imprisoned and tortured in thesedungeons. A general documentation outlines the Nazi's rise to powerand their administrative center in Berlin

Visit the German Museum of TechnologyStep inside the Deutsches Technikmuseum where you will see a longhistory of technical and scientific collections. Also, take some time tocheck out the new extension which is home to the maritime andaviation exhibits.

Free time in BerlinThe remainder of the afternoon is yours to make some newdiscoveries of your own in Germany's capital. Near Alexanderplatz,you may visit the TV Tower and observation deck, where visitors havebeen taking in the ever-changing panorama of Berlin since 1969.Alternatively, you might choose to learn more about the history of theHolocaust at the Jewish Museum or tour the Reichstag (Parliament)and its grand dome-a giant beehive of glass and steel.

Day 4: Berlin | Dresden

Travel to DresdenArrive in Dresden, which was once called “the Florence on the Elbe”before the city was devastated by bombing during World War II.Following extensive rebuilding and design, this celebrated city of thearts is once again a center of German art and culture.

Visit the Volkswagen FactoryVolkswagen aims to be the leading provider of electric vehicles by2025. At the Transparent Factory in Dresden, visitors can experiencethe e-mobility lifestyle for themselves. Visitors are able to watch thevehicle production through the building's continuous glass facade.

Day 5: Dresden | Munich

Travel via Nuremberg to MunichAfter a lunch stop in Nuremnerg, you'll arrive in Munich. This center ofculture boasts over 45 museums, 10 university buildings and twoopera houses. The city is also home to the Olympic center with fullfacilities and more than the occasional beer-hall.

Guided sightseeing of MunichYour guided tour takes you past the Olympic Stadium, theheadquarters of BMW, and the fashionable Schwabing district. You'llalso pass the Residenz (once home to the Wittelsbach dukes ofBavaria), the Deutsches Museum, the university, and the AltePinakothek. Your tour concludes at Marienplatz, Munich's medievalheart, where you'll see the city's famed Glockenspiel. “Munich”derives from the city's German name, München (little monk), sonamed because the original settlement bordered a monastery.

Day 6: Munich

Guided Visit of the Deutsches MuseumMarvel at the vast collections honoring science and technology at thismuseum, which opened in 1925 and was partially destroyed duringWWII air raids. Reopening a few years later, the Deutsches Museumnow features permanent exhibits, which run the gamut from Carriages& Bicycles to Computers, from the Altimira Cave to Music. At theForum der Technik (Technology Forum), part of the museum housednext door, you'll find an IMAX Theater and a planetarium.

Visit a local car factoryToday you'll tour a car plant and gain insight into all areas ofstate-of-the-art automobile production.

Free time in MunichWander through the Marktplatz, sampling the wares of local farmersand craftsmen-here you can also pick up a Weisswurst, the traditionalwhite sausage of the region. You might also choose to visit theSpielzuegmuseum (toy museum) just off Marienplatz. Stop by theFrauenkirche, where the devil stamped his foot in anger after losing abet with the church's architect. The devil's hoofed footprint remainsas evidence in the church entryway.

Day 7: Munich | Heidelberg

Travel to HeidelbergArrive in Heidelberg, one of Germany's most beautiful towns, standingproudly on the River Neckar. While its castle dominates the skyline,the town also has wonderful shopping and a vibrant nightlife due to itslarge university population.

Walking tour of HeidelbergBecome acquainted with Germany's oldest university city (theuniversity dates back to 1386). Wander the town's medieval streetsand Marktplatz, where witches were once burned at the stake.Writers as diverse as Mark Twain (who once floated down the Neckaron a raft) and Goethe (who was inspired by the view from the Schloß)have long praised Heidelberg's enduring beauty.

Visit Heidelberg UniversityEnjoy a visit to Germany's oldest Universities- one of the oldestsurviving universities in the world! You may choose to stop in at itsStudentenkarzer ("student prison"( where students from as far backas the 1600s have stayed and decorated the walls in graffiti.

Visit Heidelberg Castle and Wine BarrelSee Heidelberg's 700-year-old Schloß (palace) and its famous Faß(wine barrel), the world's largest. From the castle's rose-colored wallsand historic battlements, enjoy a stunning view of the Neckar Valley,where Homo heidelbergensis roamed 500,000 years ago.
