Grants for Participation in International Conferences
□ Application Qualifications○ Full-time, Endowed or HK Professor○ In case an applicant participates in a prestigious international conference with more
than three participating countries(including South Korea) as presenter, modulator or keynoter, official of an international scholarly society, member of an editing committee under an international academic journal, South Korean representative, debater and others on an equal footing
○ In case an applicant joins(individual or group) concert or exhibition by invitation(Only applicable to College of Fine Arts and College of Music)
○ In case an applicant takes part in an international conference deemed necessary by a university president※ BK21 recipients shall primarily use specific budget earmarked for the BK21 project. Only when they
don’t receive grants for the BK21 project, they can apply for relevant expenses for participating in international conferences with a statement of reason attached hereto
※ If more than two professors working on the same thesis apply for these grants, only one professor is entitled to this grant
<Unqualified Application>○ If an applicant receives other grants for the same uses(airfare, staying expense, etc.)
from outside agency(organization)○ If an applicant working overseas attends another international conference held in
South Korea or another country○ If an applicant applies for this grant after taking part in a conference○ If an applicant as a previous recipient doesn’t submit an outcome report○ Unless a professor inputs research achievements○ In case of those expenses for participating in a preparatory meeting for a conference○ If an applicant joins an international event unrelated to academic exchange(i.e.
literary festival)

□ Application Method○ An applicant shall submit to the Division of Research Support each A Grant Application for
Participation in International Conference(Form 1-1), a program schedule, and a copy of thesis to be presented at a conference by way of a dean of college(or graduate school)※ Unless the name of thesis and presenter is specified in a program schedule, a thesis acceptance letter
shall be additionally submitted※ In case of application for airfare, one duplicate of an airfare bill shall be additionally submitted※ In case of application for registration fee, a receipt for remittance(as for credit card) shall be
additionally submitted
□ Outcome Report○ A grant recipient shall submit to the Division of Research Support a copy of An
Outcome Report on Participation in International Conference(Form 1-2) within one month after returning home from abroad by way of a dean of college(or graduate school)
※ In case a grant is less than the amount actually executed so some amount covered by individual research expenses a duplicate of details of a claim for such individual research expenses shall be also submitted

Conferences□ Application Qualifications
○ SNU unit that sponsors and hosts a conference, including college, graduate school, department, and institute
○ Requirements for Holding a Conference- International Conference : With scholars from more than three nations(including
home country) attending n a conference as presenter, debater or modulator, it shall play a crucial role in promoting academic studies at Seoul national University(SNU)
※ A foreign participant working in South Korea is excluded from mandatory qualifications governing two participating nations
- Domestic Conference : Under the auspices of SNU, it shall involve more than three professors respectively from “Humanities, Sociology, and Arts” and “Science and Technology” contributing considerably to academic studies at SNU
※ Only applicable to a domestic conference on a interdisciplinary bases ※ BK21 recipients shall primarily use specific budget earmarked for the BK21 project. Only when they
don’t receive grants for the BK21 project, they can apply for relevant expenses for participating in international conferences with a statement of reason attached hereto
<Unqualified Application>○ Education, training or a conference independently held by a scholarly body○ Small-scale academic event (with less than 50 participants)○ If the person in charge as a previous recipient doesn’t hand in an outcome report
□ Details of Grant○ Each organization can receive a grants for only one conference, which is either an
international conference or a domestic(interdisciplinary) conference, once per annum- International Conference(On-campus) : Within KRW 8 million per organization, or
within KRW 4 million if co-sponsored with a society
- International Conference(Off-campus) : Within KRW 5 million per organization- Domestic(Interdisciplinary) Conference : Within KRW 3 million per organization

- Flight charge and lecture pay for the invited scholar, paper publication, space rental, interpretation, translation, meals, etc.
- Meals should be no more than 20% of the total supported amount
○ Item Interchangeability
- If a discrepancy between the fee proposal and the actual spending is expected, or a proposed item needs to be changed, it is allowed within up to 20% of the total supported fund

don’t receive grants for the BK21 project, they can apply for relevant expenses for participating in international conferences with a statement of reason attached hereto
<Unqualified Application>○ In case of research expenses or in case an applicant already receives thesis publication
grants from its own organization or other agencies○ In case of printing expenses for reprint○ Unless a professor inputs research achievements

- Airfare : Actual-amount reimbursement, or support in accordance with the Regulations of Budget and Fund Planning and Execution by the Ministry of Strategy and Finance
- Staying Expenses : Up to 7 days during the invited period (200,000 won per day)- Lecture Fee : To be calculated based on the times the lecture was given(or the
duration(hour) of the lecture) and the pay for one-time lecture- Other fees : Place rental, interpretation, translation, material(printing), and meals.
Meals must be no more than 20% of the total supported amount
○ Item Interchangeability- Any discrepancies from the proposed amount are allowed to be changed within the

Grants for Holding Focus Group Meetings
□ Application Qualifications○ Number of Possible Applicant
- College(Graduate School) & Dept.(School) : Within one-tenth of current full-time(endowed) professors per organization. Only one theme in case of joint program, multidisciplinary major, interdisciplinary major, etc. all without any professor in charge
- Research Institute : One theme per organization. One theme per affiliated research institute in case of an integrated research institute○ Under common theme shared by more than two colleges(graduates schools) or more than three departments(schools), more than five full-time(endowed) professors shall
participate in a focus group meeting. Each professor can take part in up to three themes○ A focus group meeting shall be held more than five times on a yearly basis○ A focus group meeting shall cover such a theme in need of multidisciplinary cooperation○ Other writings or theses may be utilized as a theme of this focus group meeting
※ BK21 recipients shall primarily use specific budget earmarked for the BK21 project. Only when they don’t receive grants for the BK21 project, they can apply for relevant expenses for participating in international conferences with a statement of reason attached hereto
<Unqualified Application>○ If an applicant as a previous recipient doesn’t submit an outcome report
□ Grant Details○ Within KRW 2 million per theme once per annum
□ Application Period○ 1st Half : Focus group meeting held for one year after starting during the period ranging from Jan. 1, 2012 to Aug. 81, 2012 [Due Date : March 23, 2012(Fri.)]○ 2nd Half : Focus group meeting held for one year after starting during the period ranging from Sep. 1, 2012 to Feb. 28, 2013 [Due Date : June 22, 2012(Fri.) ]
□ Application Method○ An applicant shall submit to the Division of Research Support A Grant Application for
Holding Focus Group Meeting(Form 5-1) by way of the head of organization
□ Outcome Report○ A grant recipient shall submit to the Division of Research Support each copy of An
Outcome Report on Holding Focus Group Meeting(Form 5-2) and A Statement of Accounts of Grants for Holding Focus Group Meetings(Form 5-3) within one month after the end of invitation by way of the head of organization※ A grant shall be exactly calculated, but receipts shall be kept by each organization(each organization’s
administration office)
