pring is definitely in the airwith blossom starting to appear onthe trees and the sun starting tocome out. It makes us all startthinking about where to go onholiday or lazy days sipping a glassof wine in a beer garden with thesun shining down on us.

For other people it is the first step to putting our house on themarket and making the most of the good weather to show ourhouse in the best possible light. So what happens if you havehoarded those precious family memories and as a result go tomarket with a cluttered home that no buyer can relate to, or whathappens if you secure that all important sale but you have not yetfound that dream home? At Armadillo storage we offer a widerange of storage options whether you are looking to store just afew items to de-clutter the house or whether you are looking tostore your extra items if there is a gap in between sales. All theunits at the Armadillo stores are separate and you have your ownlock on the door as well as having 24 hour CCTV to ensure thatyour items are always secure. We only charge you for the spacethat you need and then you can access your unit anytime duringthe hours of 8am-6pm Monday-Friday or 9am-6pm Saturdays. Wecan even take deliveries for you at the store if you are purchasingitems for your new home which means you can enjoy the sunshineinstead of waiting in for deliveries, and if you need your mailsorting during a gap then we can also rent you a mailbox. All ofthese services can be offered from a minimum of 7 days and weonly require 7 days notice on most room sizes so no long termcontracts because we appreciate how quickly your circumstancescan change. We also sell different packaging materials includinghouse moving packaging packs for your convenience.

For more information or to find out about other businessservices then call either our Sheffield West Bar store at 61-79 WestBar, S3 8PS on: 0114 2706377 or our Sheffield Parkway store at8 Parkway Avenue, S9 4WA on: 0114 2720988 or visitwww.bigyellow.co.uk. If you need boxes then pop into one of ourstores by the end of May and we will give you just

mention 1stMags or if you enquire about storage then we will giveyou . Here are a few tips on how to pack your items:

Stack chairs seat to seat with a cloth or paper to separate them. Use good quality storage boxes. Fill boxes to capacity—partially full or bulging boxes may tip or

collapse. Heavy items should be packed into small boxes so that they

are easy to lift. Make up an inventory of your stored items and keep it in a safe

place at home. Protect your fragile goods in bubble wrap and tissue paper. Fragile items such as crockery and glasses should be wrapped

in paper or bubble wrap before storing—do not use newspaper (theink stains).

Pictures and mirrors should be wrapped in bubble wrap, markedfragile and stacked on their end.

Wrap table legs with bubble wrap before storing. Use our wardrobe boxes which allow you to store your

clothing on hangers in order to keep their shape.

JUDGE JANE...The ancient Chinese philosopherConfucius said “when words losetheir meaning – people lose theirfreedom” which is some smallcomfort to anyone who believes ourcurrent politicians are unique intheir sins of misrepresentation. Forexample we were recently advisedby our Chancellor the economy is inrecovery. What few understand is thatfollowing a very steep recessionrecovery should be very strong. As itis not the case currently we mustseek to establish the cause of thisunique circumstance.Prior to the current financial crisisand before the imposition ofausterity the annual growth rate ofGDP was a little under 3% in theyears 1988 to 2008. In the sametime period only 3 years have seenworse growth for the Britisheconomy than the 1.9% of 2013.Each of those 3 years wasassociated with the recession in theearly 1990s. That crisis was causedby an attack on sterling by Cityspeculators as it struggled tomaintain its value in the EuropeanMonetary Fund. The worst day ofthe crisis is historically known asBlack Wednesday. As now, ordinaryhouseholds bore the brunt of thepolitical folly in the form ofrocketing interest rates. I recall theday a letter dropped through thedoor of my first home announcing

our mortgage loan was attractingan interest rate of 15%. Times werehard for my young family then asthey are now for many similar andthe speculators lived high on thehog then... as now. So, annualgrowth rates associated in the pastwith crisis are now redefined asrecovery and Chancellor sayssuccess when he knows there is acrisis; and growth when he knowswe are experiencing stagnation. It’snot madness...it’s an insult...but, he’ssmirking all the way home in hischauffeur driven car to hismillionaire lifestyle as millionsstruggle home on badly maintainedroads or overpriced, aging andunreliable public transport. It is essential we all understand theimplications the austerity programwill have on the hopes andaspirations of the next generation.Continuing minimal wage growth, rising household debt and theinvestment slump are all linked interms of their consequences. Forexample without investment fromcompanies the creation of new,high-skilled well paid jobs will nothappen. Mention of the one millionjobs created in the last two yearsobscures the truth that less thanhalf of these have been for full-timeemployees or that many of thoseare on zero hours or minimumwages. Combine that with theimpact of

cutsto public sectorspending inhealth, education and LocalEconomy budgets for social careincluding fire fighters, police etcand the outcome is inevitably chaosand crisis. It is this situation whichforces people to drawn downsavings or take on new debt tocompensate for household budgetpressures – something which is notsustainable in the long term. For most this situation will be acrisis to be endured for at least afurther decade unless there is acomplete reversal of policy. Most ofthe small business owners in ourlocal communities will be feelingthe impact of all this reduction inactivity so please ensure to givethem first refusal. If you have a specific issue you wishme to include in the column pleasedon’t hesitate to contact me [email protected] in theinterim please ensure to use yourlocal traders and invest in your localcommunity.

It’s just my opinion!

For thismonth though we thought wewould tell you a bit more aboutus and the business we nowrun in Chesterfield, so excuseus for one month indulging inwriting a bit about us!

We are the new owners ofthe business located onDeepsic Lane in ArkwrightTown in Chesterfield. We usedto be known as CalagranQuarantine Kennels. Sincetaking over we have started anall new part of the business inthe form of kennels and catteryboarding with the additionaloptions of day care and a pettaxi service.Overall the new business isnow called Calagran FourPaws Hotel & Quarantine. We continue in a separatesection of our land to run themost northerly quarantinekennel in the country, one ofonly eight still remaining inEngland. However, the newboarding business is alsosomething very special. Ourkennels are built verydifferently with a‘bungalow’ central sleepingarea with four rooms inside thebungalow and large externalruns outside of the sleepingareas, entirely separate and notadjoining the other runs andwith full all round visibility torun and play. Not being side byside in a cell block typeconfiguration is much morepleasant for dogs to be able tosee and play with others whilenot being stressed by having tobe in close contact throughan obscured wall. Both oursleeping area and runs aresome of the biggest in thecountry and in addition tothis we have over 2 acres of

groundswhere wecan walktheboarderswhile theyare with us.Cats alsodon’t getleft out with central heatingand heat pads and largecovered outdoor areas with aramp and elevated seatingarea to watch the world go byin their south facing privateoutside area. The thing that we hope makesthe most difference about usthough is what we call ‘

Becky’s Movie PreviewsThe weather may be starting topick up and we have longerdays so here’s what is comingup at the cinema this month…

Coming Soon…

Even those who aren’t especiallyreligious know the tale of Noah and hisark. We’re taught about it at school abouthow Noah was asked by God to build anark as there was going to be 40 days and40 nights of rain so the world would beflooded. It’s also been depicted a fewtimes, most notable in the 2007 comedysequel Evan Almighty.

This version though has more of aserious edge to it though, and a muchbigger budget too. The story shows how

Noah ( ) is contacted by Godand he knows what He plans to do. As itcomes from director Darren Aronofsky,( ) there is moreto the story than a man building an ark. There’s an appearance from RayWinstone ( ) asa group leader hoping to take control ofthe ark Noah has built. The film also starsEmma Watson ( ) andJennifer Connolly (

). Although the subject matter maynot be what gets some people to thecinema, big stars and even bigger setdesigns and effects should make the epicworth a watch.

Noah

Next is a British comedystarring the effortless EmmaThompson (

)and suave Bond himself PierceBrosnan (

). They play divorced coupleKate and Richard who must worktogether when their wholeretirement plan is taken fromthem when the head of thecompany swindles them outof it.

They conspire to findthe man responsible andmake him pay. This takesthem to Paris where theman is

getting married and with thehelp of some friends (

) they aregoing to steal a rather largediamond from Richard’s boss’sfiancé.

Sure to be tonnes of funthis is one that’s not to bemissed.

This is oneblockbustersequel that hasbeen highlyanticipated eversince it’s plannedrelease. After thesuccess with the first, which was a remakeitself, the sequel is sure tobe bigger and many hope, betterthan the first.

We left the story as PeterParker ( ) haddefeated The Lizard and promisedGwen Stacy’s ( ) fatherhe would protect her, this resultingin Peter deciding to keep hisdistance. Now we not only see thatthis was impossible for him to dobut he has some new foes he hasto defeat.

Peter is still struggling withkeeping the balance in his life, theordinary life and troubles of highschool and the responsibilities hefaces as Spider-Man. The one thinghe can’t let go of is the mystery

surrounding thedisappearance ofhis father. As hedigs deeper into his past, he soonhas to face new enemies is theforms of Electro ( ) andRhino ( ) and comesto realise that all his threats haveone thing in common; Oscorp.

With this set to be one of thebiggest comic book films of theyear, I’m sure this won’t be adisappointment.

Starring: Anne Hathaway,Andy Garcia, Leslie Mann, RodrigoSantoro, Jesse Eisenberg, JamieFoxx, Kristin Chenoweth, TraceyMorgan, Rita Moreno, Bruno Mars,will.i.am

City bird Blu finds himselfhilariously out of his depth duringan Amazon adventure in thiscolourful sequel. Having securedthe future of their species, formerlyflightless pet macaw Blu (JesseEisenberg) and the lovely Jewel(Anne Hathaway) are raising theiryoung family in Rio. But then theylearn of an amazingdiscovery in the Amazon jungle. Itseems they weren't the last blue

macaws after all. So Jewel cajolesdomesticated homebody Blu intoembarking on a voyage ofdiscovery in the wild. Along the way, they find her gruff dad Eduardo(Andy Garcia) and hunky, crooningchildhood friend Roberto (BrunoMars)! Little wonder our poor hero isfeeling rather inadequate. But youcan be sure he'll prove himself onceagain. All the old gang are back forthishigh-flying sequel to the hitanimation. ARIES March 21st - April 20th

Overconfidence can cause problems in early April. Try notto bite off more than you can chew. Opportunities willabound to show off your unique skills, but don't take anysafety risks when giving demonstrations. A contest of willsbetween you and your best friend or lover will erupt atmid-month. Don't fall victim to emotional blackmail. ALunar Eclipse on the 15th will bring an end to a painfulrelationship dynamic. If a love affair falls apart at theseams, it's for the best. Seek solace from your familyduring the second half of the month. Resist the urge topush away a relative who is brave enough to tell yousome painful truths. Striking a balance between yourpersonal and professional lives will be difficult aroundEaster. A Solar Eclipse on the 29th brings an unexpectedmoneymaking opportunity. Financial stability will be yours.

TAURUS April 21st - May 21st

The opening days of the month are excellent for signingcontracts and forging business relationships. You mightalso decide to make things official with a romantic partner. You won't get much cooperation from a combative duringthe second week of April. Resist the urge to start anargument and just do the job yourself. This will save timeand aggravation. A Lunar Eclipse on the 15th will bringan end to this oppressive work situation. It looks likesomebody will get fired. Friends will be loyal and lovingthroughout the Easter season. Let your loved ones lavishyou with affection. Speaking your mind will become easieras the month draws to a close. Take this opportunity toexpress tender emotions to your amour. An exciting newbeginning is possible on or around the 29th, when a SolarEclipse falls in your Sun Sign. There's never been a bettertime for a dramatic makeover or lifestyle overhaul.

GEMINI May 22nd - June 21st

April opens with an exciting career opportunity. This is agreat time to go on job interviews and launch salarynegotiations. A seasoned executive will be impressed byyour sharp intellect and quick wit. You might want tospend a little extra money on a handsome suit. Lookingthe part of a seasoned professional will turn the tide inyour favour. If you already have a job, you could get ahandsome promotion or award for your hard work; thereshould be a big announcement around mid-month. ALunar Eclipse on the 15th will bring an abrupt end to aromance or creative project. Although you will bedisappointed by this turn of events, it's really a blessing indisguise. Don't go on any spending sprees in the secondhalf of April. You need to conserve your resources aroundEaster. A secret will be revealed on or around the 29th,when a Solar Eclipse electrifies your twelfth house ofhidden matters.

CANCER June 22nd - July 23rd

Be very conservative when making promises during theopening days of April. You don't want to give your bossfalse expectations. If you're going on a job interview, behonest about your achievements. Any exaggerations onyour resume will result in an automatic disqualification.Family won't be terribly sympathetic about careerproblems during the first half of the month. Keep thesematters to yourself. A relative could withdraw their supporton or around the 15th, when a Lunar Eclipse disrupts your

fourth house of domesticity. It looks likeyou'll have to become moreindependent. Be vigilant about keepingpromises to your boss and romantic part-

ner during the approach of Easter. You'll need asmany friends as you can get during this rocky period.Life looks up considerably near the 29th, when a

Solar Eclipse gives you the answer to a prayer. A child-hood dream is about to come true; give thanks.

LEO July 24th - August 23rd

Don't pretend to be an authority on a subject you knowlittle about in early April. An unassuming expert willreveal your ignorance. If you are totally in the dark aboutan area, ask plenty of questions. You'll turn a potentiallydisastrous situation into a learning opportunity. Plus, yournewfound knowledge will allow you to break out of adead end job. Resist the urge to lash out at somebodywho tries to give you advice. Shocking news about arelative or neighbour, or cousin could reach your earsnear the 15th, when a Lunar Eclipse puts an end tocertain illusions. Prepare to be shocked. Apatheticcolleagues will make you furious during the second halfof the month. A generous gift will give your spirits a lift asEaster draws near. Brace yourself for an exciting careeropportunity that will become available on or around the29th, courtesy of the Solar Eclipse.

VIRGO August 24th - September 23rd

Be as conservative as possible with money during theopening days of April. Unexpected expenses could forceyou to draw on savings. You'll have to discuss budgetproblems with a business or romantic partner during thefirst week of the month. Luckily, your partner will be kindand compassionate, making it easy to iron out problemsand sort out debts. A source of income will come to anabrupt end on the 15th, when a Lunar Eclipse sendsshock waves through your second house of finances. Thisis just the jolt you need to move in a more fulfillingdirection. Fortunately, your best friend or lover will beeager to ease this transition. Financial matters will be asource of strain around Easter. Then, just when you startto panic, a marvellous Solar Eclipse on the 29th will sendan opportunity to teach, write, or travel for money.

LIBRA September 24th - October 23rd

Work will consume the lion's share of your attentionthroughout early April. This won't sit well with an attentionstarved lover. Try to strike a better balance between yourpersonal and professional lives. The opportunity to makedecorative improvements to your office space will appealto your creative side. It will be such a relief to create morepleasant, attractive surroundings. A Lunar Eclipse on the15th brings an end to an era of self delusion. It'simportant to face your strengths and weaknessestruthfully after an authority figure gives you a wake upcall. Resist the urge to push a loved one into making adecision near Easter. It's best to adopt a no pressurestrategy. Don't pretend everything is great at home ifyou're having trouble on the domestic front. It's better totell your boss you are having some personal struggles. ASolar Eclipse on the 29th brings extra cash for luxuryitems.

SCORPIO October 24th - November 22nd

A power struggle with a fellow worker will erupt in theearly days of April. No matter what you do or say, thisbully will maintain the upper hand. It's best to make astrategic retreat and bide your time. You will prevail, provided you are patient and continue to perform well.Despite these struggles, you will be more charming andsexy than ever. Prepare to get lots of romantic attentionthroughout the first half of the month. A Lunar Eclipse onthe 15th will bring a health matter to light. It looks likeyou'll have to end a bad habit. This may require you to putsome distance between you and the people who have

fostered this behaviour. Resist the urge to order a siblingor neighbour around Easter. You need to cultivate friends, not enemies. A powerful alliance will occur near the 29th,when a Solar Eclipse electrifies your seventh house ofpartnerships.

SAGITTARIUS November 23rd - December 21st

Resist the urge to spend lots of money as a means toimpress a romantic interest in early April. Spontaneousgestures of affection will make a bigger impression thanexpensive gifts. Make a few beautifying touches to yourhome during the first week of the month, when you'll beable to find gorgeous furnishings and artwork at discountprices. It will be pointless to argue about religious orethical matters with a relative mid-month. Neither one ofyou is going to budge. A Lunar Eclipse on the 15th putsan end to a troubled friendship. You'll breathe a heavysigh of relief. Be extra resourceful with your money nearEaster, when unexpected expenses will meet you at everyturn. Fortunately, you'll get a lucrative job offer on oraround the 29th, when a Solar Eclipse electrifies yoursixth house of work and service.

CAPRICORN December 22nd - January 20th

It will be hard to strike a balance between your privateand public lives during the first week of the month. Youwant to spend time with your family, but a pushy authorityfigure will demand you put in extra hours at the office. Anangry confrontation will erupt on the 15th, when a LunarEclipse causes this official to say or do somethingunacceptable. It looks like you will be in for a change ofleadership. Resist the urge to apply for this position, as itwill be more trouble than it is worth. You're better offspending this lull with your partner. If you're single, spendthe second half of April looking for love. A friend could setyou up on a wonderful blind date around Easter. The 29thbrings an exciting surprise, courtesy of a powerful SolarEclipse. News of an engagement or pregnancy isimminent.

AQUARIUS January 21st - February 19th

Good news about a creative endeavour reaches your earsin early April. This is a great time to explore unknownterritory, whether through business or travel. You mayhave to work on a tight budget, but that will just promptyou to be more inventive. Resist the urge to cut legalcorners, or you'll get in trouble. Follow the letter of the lawthrough the first half of the month. Apply to a religious, cultural, or educational institution for a grant if you needadditional funds. Someone you admire will be the subjectof unfortunate publicity on or around the 15th. A LunarEclipse will expose some unsavoury elements of theircharacter. Let this be a lesson about idolising others. Anappreciative executive could give you a raise near Easter.A Solar Eclipse on the 29th will help you move to a biggerplace or expand your household in some exciting way.

PISCES February 20th - March 20th

Romance and finance will not mix in the early days ofApril. Don't feel pressured into buying your lover anexpensive gift. You should be loved for who you are, notfor what you can afford. If you want to spend some money, buy some new clothes or get a spa treatment during thefirst week of the month. You're long overdue for a treat.Devote your energy to a creative project on the 12th; you'llbe thrilled by the results. A Lunar Eclipse on the 15thcauses you to part ways with a business partner or lover. It's time to put your money into a separate account, evenif you plan on getting back together later. You will berewarded for your resourcefulness in the days surroundingEaster. A Solar Eclipse on the 29th brings an excitingopportunity to study with a respected artist. This class willchange your life.

Since 2005, same sex coupleshave been able to enter into civilpartnerships, which involve a civilceremony conducted by a registrarat a registry office or a place with alicence to undertake civilceremonies - in a similar way todifferent sex couples who getmarried in a civil ceremony. Civilpartnerships entitle same sexcouples to similar legal rights tothose of married couples on issuessuch as inheritance, pensionprovision, life assurance, childmaintenance, next of kin andimmigration, but civil partnershipcan only be brought to an end indesignated courts which dealspecifically with civil partnershipbreakdowns, the choice of which isnot as extensive as it is for differentsex couples. However, finances aredealt with in a similar way todifferent sex couples.

The most fundamentaldifference between civil partnershipsand marriages has been the inabilityfor same sex couples to have areligious ceremony, but parliamenthas now passed a bill that allowssame sex couples to undergo amarriage ceremony. Whilst it allowssame sex couples to have a religiousceremony at any religious institution

and call themselves “married”,religious organisations will notbe forced to conduct marriages.

The first same sexweddings in England and Wales

can take place on the 29th March2014: several months earlier thanexpected when The Marriage Actwas passed. Those wishing to beamongst the first to marry had toformally give notice of their

intentions to marry on the 13th March. One of the downsides of the new actis that, although same sex coupleswho married abroad under foreignlaw and are currently treated as civilpartners will be recognised as beingmarried in England and Wales fromMarch 2014, UK couples whoentered into a civil partnershipunder UK law will not automaticallybe recognised as being married.

Unfortunately this means thatsome civil partners will have toundergo the ignominy of getting

“divorced” by a formal dissolution ofthe partnership in order to thenremarry. This anomaly is likely to beaddressed, but, whilst there isindication it may be considered bythe end of 2014, there is noinformation at the moment abouthow this is likely to be achieved orthe procedures that will be required.

A Barnsley couple arethreatening to sue the governmentafter being told they cannot getmarried as soon as The Marriage Act

comes into force as they would haveto dissolve their civil partnershipthrough the court first. The couple, who have twins, feel they have beenpenalised by entering into a civilpartnership at a time when that wasthe only legal route open to them toformalise their relationship andprotect their children’s financialSituations.

In general the provisions forsame sex marriage will, however, bring same sex couples in line withdifferent sex couples both in termsof marriage and divorce.

As light levels increase andthe soil begins to warm up, so doesthe growth of all plants and weeds,Keeping weedsunder control is ofupmost importanceannual weeds canbe hand picked orhoed on a dry day ,because left to go toseed they willmultiply in their thousands.Perennial weeds can be treatedwith a propriety herbicide or dugout.

It is an ideal time to feed yourplants in borders and pots this willgive them a boost and supplyessential nutrients for healthygrowth, healthy plants are less likelyto suffer from attacks from pestsand diseases and perform well.Beware of late frosts and keepvulnerable plants and new shootsprotected at night if frost is forecast.Fleece is cheap and will generallybe good enough, but you could usenewspaper. If you haveneither getting up earlybefore the sun rises thefrost can be washed fromthe plants by sprayingwith water. Don’t betempted to buy or put outtender bedding until much later, inthis area mid to late May is ideal, and even then be prepared to coverit if necessary.

Deadhead daffodils andnarcissi; give them a liquidfeed high in potash or a

sprinkling of bonemealand then let them diedown naturally, Don’tcut off the leaves asthey are necessary toreplenish the bulb fornext year. Keepdeadheading spring

bedding to keep it looking itsbest and to encourage new flowers.Continue with your spring cleaning.Mulch plant that need moisture byusing compost before theherbaceous growth really takes off.Carry on removing moss and weedsfrom paths, terraces and drives.

Make new beds and bordersplaning your planting schemecarefully to get it right first time.Make sure your tools are ready foraction book the lawn mower in fora service and check gardenfurniture for any rot. When it iswarm enough, treat sheds, fences

and trellis with a goodquality preservative.

Now is the time towage war on slugs andsnails. They enjoydelicacies such as thedelicious young shoots

of delphiniums and plants withfresh new growth. Use pet-friendlyslug pellets which contain arepellent or drench the ground

around hostas with liquid slug killerto exterminate slugs below thesurface. If you have Hostas in pots ,take them out drop a few pellets inthe bottom and return the plant thiswill eliminate any over winteringslugs. April essentially is a reallybusy month for sowing, growing, and mowing. ENJOY !
