CHESTERFIELD GOLF CLUB April 2020 It’s frustrating that we can’t enjoy the golf course as we turn the corner into Spring – but rest assured our staff are working exceptionally hard so it’s in great shape when we’re given the green light to play again. Course Manager Joe Walsh offers an update: “Even though we are in the middle of a pandemic and three of our staff have been furloughed to make necessary savings, we push on. The remaining staff of Wain, Matt, Lee and myself are doing all we can to keep the course in good shape for when we reopen. Whenever that may be. “Over the past couple of weeks, we managed to get 50 tonnes of sand into the greens with another 15 to go on after we complete over seeding next week. “Also, we have been spraying the greens with a preventative fungicide just in case the Fusarium disease decides to make a very unwelcome comeback. “I am extremely happy with the progress of the greens and I remain convinced they will be in great shape once the course reopens.” Joe added: “We have removed the hole cups from the winter greens as we won’t be needing them for a good six- seven months. “Now we finally have a continuous dry spell the mowers are out in force. We have been striping up fairways, first cut and tees. We also have been joined by our professional, Shane Naisbett, volunteering to cut the rough. “The definition between cut is coming on nicely and is really starting to stand out. “During this pandemic we have noticed a lot more of the general public on the course whether it be dog walkers or people just out for a bit of exercise. “My major concern is that we suffer vandalism to any part of the course. “Wain and I have started to dig out a trench across the eighth carry, roughly 50 yards from the tee. This is being done for a couple of reasons – firstly to stop trespassers riding their bikes down the hill and then skidding on the green, and secondly to help catch water running down the bank and reduce water gathering in front of the green. We may also alter the path to stop it washing out every time we have a heavy down pour of rain. “Thank you to those who are using their daily exercise period to patrol the course. Take care and stay safe.” Preparing the course for your return – the hard work continues ADDRESS 14-16 Burlington St, Chesterfield,S40 1RR TELEPHONE 01246 200951 www.ingmans.co.uk Andrew’s Carpet & Flooring Domestic & Commercial Family run business Large choice of samples M: 07970 463 109 T: 01246 275502 (after 6pm) [email protected] Night Golf - Friday 27 March 9-Hole Fun Texas Scramble Sign up sheet in foyer

Captains’firstevent becomes last (for while!)

A fabulous evening was had by all who attended the Captains’ first dance, Saturday 14 March.

It was unprecedented from the outset when the traditional Captains’ greeting was replaced with a welcome glass of Prosecco due to the unfolding threat of the Coronavirus!

After the unusual welcome the full clubhouse enjoyed a delicious hot buffet served by Neil and his team, which looking back now could be described as our last supper (hopefully only for a short time)!

The party atmosphere was not detered as the ABBA tribute band, all dressed up and ready for a trip back to the 70’s, entertained everyone and kept a full dance floor.

They looked the part and sounded great. It was difficult not to join in, singing and dancing for the rest of the evening.

“What an atmosphere, what a great start to Captains’ year, what a night!”

It must have been good because even the men were up and dancing (well nearly all!)

A big thank you to all who attended to make it very special.

“Around this time of year I would usually be running a US Masters Sweepstake. As this is not possible and we find ourselves in the position that we are in, what better way to try and keep some normality and at the same time help our NHS?

“One square is £5 or five for £20, the more that enter and support the more money in the prize pot

and greater donation to the NHS. We have a PXG Gen2 driver worth over £600 guaranteed for 1st place, please help support the NHS and the professional shop at this time.”

To enter please send £5 or £20 along with your full name and “Prize Draw” as reference to Account 41300157 60-40-09
