Box 1247 Gaylord, MI | 49734 SEMINAR LOCATION A 30-year history of providing quality continuing education programs. This seminar will provide introductory training in the DIR® Floorme TM Model developed by Dr. Stanley Greenspan and Dr. Serena Weider to treat children with regulatory disorders and children with behaviors that place them on the ausm spectrum. The DIR® (Developmental, Individual Difference, Relaonship) Model is a developmental, relaonship-based model that uses therapeucally guided interacon with the child as a means of moving him or her up the developmental ladder. Intervenon is offered within the context of developmentally designed play and learning situaons. The DIR® Model uses emoonal and movang experience-based learning to improve social skills, language, independence, and to teach specific concepts and academics. The seminar will discuss how to encourage developmentally appropriate interacons for children with various sensory and developmental profiles, focusing on maintaining a connuous flow of interacons, open and closing mulple circles of communicaon, and affect regulaon. Affect-based approaches will illustrate how to encourage the child’s iniave, purposeful behavior, shared aenon, engagement, problem solving, symbolic play, and abstract thinking. Aenon will be given to filling in gaps in developmental levels, deepening the plot, emoonal constricons, and conversaons crical for higher- level thinking. Sherri Cawn, MA, CCC-SLP,has 38 years of pediatric experience, specializing in treating infants, toddlers, and school-age children with developmental challenges. Sherri is a leading practitioner of the DIR® Model in speech and language development and has trained extensively with Dr. Greenspan and Dr. Weider. She is a faculty member with the Interdisciplinary Council on Developmental and Learning Disorders (ICDL) and trains other professionals nationally and internationally on the theoretical concepts of DIR® and FloortimeTM.
