eNewsletter for Expecting Parents We are please to offers expecting and new parents a free weekly email full of information about pregnancy and the changes happening to the mom and baby during this time. Therefore, we offer a comprehensive, pre-pregnancy health assessment by an advanced practice nurse that helps determine if you or your partner has any health risk factors that might lead to complications during your pregnancy.

Diabetes Education during Pregnancy Diabetes that develops during pregnancy is called gestationaldiabetes.LakewoodHospitalDiabetesandEndocrine Center provides care for women with pre-diabetes,gestational,Type1andType2diabetes.Groupclasses and/or individual instruction will teach you how to make the necessary changes to control your blood sugar during your pregnancy.

Bed Rest Education ProgramFree lending program for mothers-to-be who cannot attend classes because of physician-prescribed bed rest. The bed-rest bags contain books and resource materials that prepare parents for labor and delivery.

Services for Pregnancy and Childbirth PreparationPregnancy and Cardiovascular Outcomes Registry (PCOR)

Physicians are interested in whether or not certain high-risk pregnancies are associated with future development of cardiovascular disease.

Volunteers are needed who are currently pregnant and are in any of the following categories:•NormalPregnancy–OR–haveacurrentdiagnosisof:• Preeclampsia/Eclampsia•PregnancyInducedHypertension(PIH)• Gestational Diabetes• Placental Abruption• Placental Infarction

As a participant in this registry study, you will be provided FREE cardiovascular screenings during seven visitsthatwillextendovera10-yearperiod.

Preparing for Birth Prepared Childbirth/Lamaze ClassesThese classes are designed for you and a labor partner to help prepare you for a positive birth experience whether you plan a natural delivery, or prefer the use of medication or epidural anesthesia. Class topics include:• Process of labor and birth• Comfort measures for labor• Use of birth ball and water therapy• Supportive coaching techniques• Relaxation and breathing techniques• Medical options• Postpartum care and emotional needs• Skin to Skin care after delivery• Early Breastfeeding •BenefitsofRooming-In• Planning for rest after delivery

Classes are offered at Fairview and Lakewood locations.

Suggested Guidelines: Register for Prepared Childbirth classesaroundyourfifthmonthofpregnancy.Beginclasses by the seventh month and complete classes at least three to four weeks before your due date. Recommendations vary for mothers of multiples and high-risk pregnancy.

Saturday Morning Prepared Childbirth Series: The basics of labor, birth and postpartum care.

Natural Unmedicated Childbirth ClassesFor moms who choose to have an unmedicated natural birth. Topics to be covered include the anatomy and physiology of childbirth, the role of pain in childbirth, and natural pain coping strategies. For more information, please call 440.356.0347.

Cesarean Birth Preparation This one-time class is for those who have been told they are going to have a Cesarean and/or are planning on having a repeat Cesarean delivery. Family Centered Birth – Preparing Siblings to Attend the BirthThis class is required for siblings who will be present during the labor and birth of their new brother or sister. Our experienced instructor will prepare your children for the work of labor and experiencing the miracle of birth.Theinstructionistailoredtoyourchildren’sagesand stages. Please discuss this birth option with your physician/midwife prior to registering.

Please note: It is strongly recommended that you and your partner (as well as the support person who will be with your child during the birth) attend the class with your child. A hospital tour is included. Class meets once fortwohoursatFairviewHospital.

Teen Pregnancy and Childbirth EducationThis program offers a series of classes for pregnant teens and their support partners. It includes discussions of prenatal care, the stages and phases of labor and birth, and self-care after birth. We also discuss comfort measures, medical interventions, and newborn care. Car Seat Fit StopCar seat installation can be tricky. Did you know that 75 percent of all car seats for infants and children are installed incorrectly? Have your car seat installed prior to delivery at one of our monthly Fit Stops. This program is designed to help parents learn the correct way to select, install and place children of all ages in a proper restraint.

Infant & Child SafetyInfant and Child Safety ClassThis class includes instruction on car seat safety and installation, sleep safety, SIDS prevention, water safety, baby-proofingthehome,chokingandfallprevention.InstructorsareChildLifeSpecialistsandCertifiedCarSeat Safety Technicians.

One class, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., $20 per family held at Fairview Hospital. Please bring carseat and base.

CPR for Infant and ChildThe CPR for Family and Friends course targets parents, grandparents, family members and other caregivers who want to learn rescue skills for infants and children, since youarethefirstpersontoreactinachild’semergency.Classsizeislimited–tenbusinessdaysnoticeisrequired for a non-medical reason to cancel, otherwise the class is non-refundable.

One or all members of the family are welcome to attend. Please bring a photo of your dog(s).

Cardiovascular Screening for WomenWas your pregnancy complicated by any of the following conditions Preeclampsia/Eclampsia, Pregnancy Induced Hypertension(PIH),GestationalDiabetes,PlacentalAbruption or Placental Infarction?

If so, you may have increased cardiovascular risk later inlife.Ifyouarebetweentheagesof30–55,notcurrently pregnant and were diagnosed with one of the above conditions, then you are eligible for this free 30-minute cardiovascular screening event.

Support ServicesBreastfeeding ResourcesBreastfeeding SupportA support system for breastfeeding mothers in a group setting. Individual advice and attention from a lactation consultant provided. Problem solving for engorgement, latch, growth spurts, pumping and storing milk, return to work, and more. Mothers only for privacy reasons. Registration not required. Bedrest SupportFree lending program for those mothers-to-be who cannot attend classes because of physician prescribed bedrest. Bedrest bags contain books and resource materials that prepare parents for labor and delivery.
