Report out from last years’ Forum
Kootenay Boundary Chapter
SD 5: now a strategy in achievement contract under social responsibility; also in school growth plans70 students in care and 50% are ab ed. Monthly scheduled meetings are held at school level with staff from Ministry of Family and every second month, district level meetings
Kootenay Boundary Chapter
SD6: better communication now with Ktunaxa(Kinbasket) family services. Contact made by social workers in summer to school principals to review vulnerable childrenLocal conference at one school on October 24th will be about supporting At-Risk Youth.
Kootenay Boundary Chapter
SD 8: Darren from MCFD attended principals’ meeting and committed to providing names and holding follow-up. About 45 children in care. Talking about what makes a child resilient. Concerned about situation where a child is placed in care on the weekend and there is no communication
Kootenay Boundary Chapter
SD10: Joint effort between agencies for the healthy family group. A community link function for support dollars. Good communications with Ministry of Family. Adjunct services with separate agencies have more difficult communications.
Kootenay Boundary Chapter
SD 20: good multi-agency group meets several times a year. Meeting in the next two weeks to reconnect. Know most of the children in care. Looking at attachment theory work. Ministry of Family has good communications.
Kootenay Boundary Chapter
SD 51: some communications problems caused by shift of regional reporting office moving from Okanagan to Nelson. Also staffing issues. Some distress in a number of families with fathers away working due to local downturn in economy. Positive partnership in training with Ministry of Family on Integrated Case Management. Foster parents attended and session well received. Held appreciation day for foster parents.
