Monday, May 4, 2020 • Presidio Performing Arts Foundation annually presents two free multi-cultural dance performances for 6,000

underserved students at the SF War Memorial Opera House. The performance is narrated, giving cultural context to each dance and an accompanying study guide is offered, providing an opportunity for more in-depth learning. For many students this is their only arts related field trip for the entire year.

• Since 2001, 108,000 children have enjoyed Presidio Dance Theatre as they perform excerpts from the award-winning

show, DANCING ACROSS CULTURES™ with internationally known guest artists. • DANCING ACROSS CULTURES™ provides a multicultural mosaic of diverse worlds that children can easily dance

through, celebrating each other’s cultural backgrounds. Help PPAF ensure that the arts remain vitally accessible to all SF Bay Area students. Your tax-deductible donation will enable us to produce Children’s Day at the SF War Memorial Opera House, enriching the lives of thousands of young students.

“My students sat and watched the show with such interest. This was my third year attending the show. Every kindergarten class that attended your show had really enjoyed the wonderful performances. Thank you again for allowing me this opportunity to expose my students to a live performance in a such a beautiful theater. Most of the students at our school do not have this type of exposure. Thank you again for the wonderful show!” - Margaret Lee, Kindergarten Teacher, Gordon J. Lau Elementary School “My first-grade students really enjoyed the Children’s Day performance of Dancing Across Cultures. The boys of course loved the sword dancing piece and the girls loved the ballet. We are all captivated by the ‘headless’ dancers and were delighted when we found out it was only one dancer. Your program crossed many cultures just like my classroom and I, the teacher, was pleased to see dances that represented the cultural traditions of the students I work with. I do hope that you will have this program available next year.” - Molly Last, 1st Grade Teacher, Longfellow Elementary School “Thank you for an amazing performance on Monday! This was the first time in the Opera House for most of our students. What a grand place to introduce cultural dances to children! It was wonderful to watch the children performers — they were all terrific. We loved the costumes and music too! Some of our favorites that came up during our post visit discussion were the sword fight, the umbrella dance, the ballerina, Irish dancing, Mexican dance, and the dance where it seemed as if 2 kids were fighting and rolling around but it was really just 1 very talented dancer doing everything. It was simply fabulous! Thank you for this opportunity!” - Josie Varona, Kindergarten Teacher, Sunset Elementary School “We are very thankful for the opportunity to see the performance Dancing Across Cultures. The performance enhanced their learning of different cultures from around the globe. They were especially impressed by the dancers’ colorful costumes and how stories could be told through dance.” - Irene Aragon, Arts Coordinator, Bessie Carmichael School
