At its very core, the Theatrical Arts Program at ICRC empowers young people to make new discoveries about themselves and the world while building a lifelong interest in the arts. ICRC’s Theatrical Arts Pro-gram includes two major components: a traditional Children’s Theatre program serving all children ages 4-18 and the Carolina Actors with Spe-cial Talents program (CAST) for young adults with disabilities. Each com-ponent is cemented by the idea that the power of theatre can provide a rich individual experience and an all-encompassing community encoun-ter. The staff and volunteers working with the actors are committed to bringing compassion, a sense of wonder, honesty, humor, and joy to all the lives touched. A passion for outstanding artistry drives this program forward as we educate and delight.

The young people in all ICRC theatrical productions have devel-oped self-confidence, public speaking, and new relationships. Partici-pants receive the gratifying experiences of learning lines, performing on stage and interacting with peers in a safe and comfortable setting. Partic-ipants are not asked to audition to be in the program and they enjoy a supportive, safe, nurturing environment. Working together we rise above any person’s limits; and bring pride and joy to young people who are able to live out a dream on stage.

ICRC’s Theatrical Arts Program offers the same state-of-the-art education and experiences as those found in much larger cities. With the continuing evolution of the Theatrical Arts Program the future looks very bright and exciting for the residents of the Irmo Chapin Recreation Com-mission. ICRC will continue to develop arts programs to meet the needs of its citizens; provide exemplary experiences for the actors; and inspire creativity throughout the community.

Buddy, a young orphan, mistakenly crawls into Santa's bag of gifts and is transported to the North Pole. The would-be elf is raised, unaware that he is actually a human, until his enormous size and poor toy-making abilities cause him to face the truth. With Santa's permission, Buddy embarks on a journey to New York City to find his birth father and discover his true identity. Faced with the harsh reality that his father is on the naughty list and that his half-brother doesn't even believe in Santa, Buddy is determined to win over his new family and help New York remember the true meaning of Christmas. “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” William Shakespeare's most popular comedy, portrays the adventures of four young lovers and a group of amateur actors, their interactions with woodland fairies and a duke and duchess. Taking place in a mythical Athens and an enchanted forest, there is a handsome fairy king, a misguided parent, star-crossed lovers, a weaver who's transformed into a half-donkey, wood sprites and elves. This work is widely performed around the world, and no wonder - it's about the world's most popular pastime, falling in love. But as Puck knows, falling in love can make fools of us all. ATTENDANCE Being in any theatrical performance is a commitment of time and talents. All cast members need to make every effort to be at all rehearsals. The last cou-ple of weeks or rehearsals are mandatory. TECH WEEK Tech Week is the week leading up to opening night. During tech week we will have rehearsals each night at the performance site. Tech week is mandatory for all cast members. Please remember to be on time so that the rehearsals can run smoothly and we can get everyone out in time for bed (and school the next day.) PUNCTUALITY Please make every effort to be on time to rehearsals. We have a very limited time each week with each other, and that time is very valuable. It’s important to be respectful of each other to pull off a successful show. STUDY Please remember to go over your lines during the week when not at rehears-al. If everyone practices, practices, practices we’ll have very strong and pro-ductive rehearsals each weekend. EMAIL We will use email heavily. Please make sure you check the email address you give us during registration regularly for updates on rehearsals, notes, and changes. Things can change quickly and we will always email notifications. GENDER Very often in theatre people get cast in roles that are opposite of their own gender. This is a necessary part of theatre and it’s fun! If you are a girl cast as a boy, have a good time with it, and it’ll look great on your theatre resume — it’s shows how versatile you are! COMMUNITY We are a theatre family, and we are very tight-knit. We also welcome children and teens of all experience levels in our program. This is a safe place for all people to experience the magic of theatre, and we need everyone’s commit-ment to this philosophy for the fun to stay alive! Please use respectful words, and be encouraging to your peers, adults, and children alike. There is no room for bullying in ICRC either by an adult or a child.

ENSEMBLE So, you are in the ensemble? Prepare to own the show. Literally, every role is essential to the story we are telling, and the ensemble is no exception. The ensemble numbers in any show bring the power and enthusiasm to the per-formance. If your child is in the ensemble please be sure you don’t say things like “just the ensemble” or “only the ensemble”. Ensemble songs are usually the ones that make the biggest impression, and have people singing in the shower the next day. PARENTS Parent involvement is the #1 key to our success. We, like your children, are lost without you. Thank you ahead of time for making sure your budding ac-tor/actress goes over their lines a million times in the car, shows up on time for rehearsals, and has everything they need. TALK TO US! We are here to make sure the children have the best theatrical experience possible. Feel free to bring us any ideas, concerns, or general comments you have. ENROLLMENT Once you are enrolled in the show, we are counting on you! After auditions and casting, we need you in the show to make it work. If you are unsure if you’ll be able to commit to the show for any reason, please decide that be-fore auditions so we can fill your spot. REFUNDS Refunds will not be issued for a registration that is cancelled after auditions.
