China’s traditions

• In China only about 1% are Christians so only a few people know about Christmas. Because of this Christmas is only celebrated in major cities. Christmas is celebrated in rural areas of China but its becoming more well known. A tradition that’s becoming more popular in China, on Christmas Eve, is giving apples. Many places have apples covered in colored paper ready for sale. Jingle bells is a well-known Christmas carol in China.

• Christmas is celebrated in rural areas of China because it is too well known. People who are Christians in China go to special services. Going to midnight mass services has become very popular as well.

Santa Claus

• Santa Claus is known as Sheng Dan Lao Ren otherwise known as old Christmas Man.
