By Max W., Annika, and Zack

Introduction

Chinese religions and legends have been around for centuries. There is one very popular religion, called Buddhism. There are other popular religions that aren't as popular, like Christianity, or Taoism.

Buddhism

Buddhism is the most popular belief. Also Buddhism is the most important belief. Buddha came to China in the first century. The Buddha means the enlightened one. Buddhists follow the teachings of a north Indian prince who has devoted his life to Buddhism.

Confucianism Confucianism was taught by Confucius. It was taught so people can have respect for one another. Also, Confucius thought a good king should cherish his subjects. Respect within was very important in Confucianism. Be polite, courageous, nice, and wise. For more than 2,000 years, Confucianism has been part of the Chinese society. It was based on the Confucianism code of behavior.

Daoism/Taoism

Daoism/Taoism is a very old belief. It is based on a short book, by Laotzu. He founded Taoism. Taoists believe that the balance of yin and yang is the key to achieving spiritual peace. Laotzu believed people should live in harmony with nature.

Legends

There are Chinese legends, too! One is named ‘The Red String of Fate.’ The Red String connects two people who will some day marry each other. The string may tangle and stretch, but never break. That is the story of the Red String of Fate.
