Book Review

The Cellar By: Leo Chaparro

The Cellar, by Natasha

Preston, is a young adult thrill-

er about a young girl named

Summer, who was suddenly

kidnapped by a mysterious

man who was following her

around the park. The man ap-

pears and startles Summer, but

what she didn’t know was that

he called her Lily and constant-

ly stared at her for a while.

Summer claims she is the

wrong girl, but he just kept saying she was Lily.

Before Summer can turn around and leave she is

attacked by the mysterious man, and then is thrown

into the back of his van. Summer tries to call for help,

but no can hear her and she is scared to death. Then

the van stops, and the man then drags her to a mysteri-

ous door behind a bookshelf and throws her in a cellar

with three other girls. The girls introduce themselves as

Rose, Poppy, and Violet and now they have a new girl

to join them, but her name is now Lily. Rose explains

to Summer that she is the fourth flower in Clover’s new

family. Now Summer knows his name, but is still con-

fused about why he chose her and why he brought her

with him.

As Summer tries to start getting used to her new

home, she is still afraid to talk to any of the girls or to

even eat. Clover explains to Summer that the reason he

chose them was because he wanted to protect them, say-

ing that they were pure and not disgusting like those oth-

er girls that walk the streets and try to ruin people’s lives.

Summer faces problems as Clover randomly

brings girls down to the cellar and kills them in front of

the girls, who are used to watching this. Rose explains

that Clover does this to help them learn that the outside

world is full of inappropriate girls that must be punished,

at least that’s what he always tells them. Now that Sum-

mer knows that Clover is not only a kidnapper, but a

murderer as well, she comes up with a plan to kill Clover

and escape.

Summer explains her plan to the girls but they

disagree. Summer asks them why they won’t go with her

plan, and they explain to her that they can’t escape or

even try, because Clover will punish them. Rose tells

Summer stories about past girls who tried, but they failed

and ended up dead. As Summer hears this she has to de-

cide if she should escape or not.

So, she will try to escape with or without the oth-

ers and return to her family, because what Clover doesn’t

know is that flowers don’t last forever. I would give this

book 5 stars and recommend it to people who like thrill-

ers, because this book will keep you on the edge of your

seat!

Battlefield is a great game., and I have experi-

enced it. But I will tell you things about the game that

you may not know.

Battlefield is a first-person shooter, but you get to

customize your character more than in Call of Duty, and

you also get to customize any vehicle you get in to. The

vehicles in the game vary by map, and if your team is

winning or losing. There are four different classes you

can play: assault, engineer, support, and recon. They all

have their perks: assault gives health, engineer repairs ve-

hicles, and support gives out ammo,.

Battlefield has no continuing story, there are dif-

ferent stories for each game. The setting and characters

for Battlefield depend on which game you are playing in

the series. The first Battlefield game was released in Sep-

tember 2002, and the first Call of Duty game was released

in October 2003, which makes the Battlefield series

slightly older.

Three things set them apart: the player count, the

setting, and how much the franchises are worth. The set-

ting for Battlefield is in the present or past but the setting

for Call of Duty right now is in the future. The player

count for Battlefield is around 50,000 or 60,000 players,

but the player count for Call of Duty is around 100 mil-

lion. The Call of Duty franchise is worth over $3 million

but the Battlefield is worth over $3 million, too.

In conclusion I think Battlefield has more con-

tent then Call of Duty, but Call of Duty has way more

players than Battlefield .

Call of Duty is a game loved by many people

around the world. It has a wide variety of games for

PlayStation, Xbox, PC, and mobile devices. Call of

Duty is a first-person shooter game that has an array

of game modes, such as campaign, multiplayer, or

even zombies.

The three companies that develop the Call of

Duty franchise games: Treyarch, Infinity Ward, and

Sledgehammer games, have created different game

modes but they are extremely similar. However, the

Battlefield franchise only has two game modes, cam-

paign and multiplayer. As for how many games were

made the Call of Duty franchise has 23 games

(including mobile) and counting! Battlefield only has

six games and no mobile ones.

There is also downloadable content (DLC)

available for most of the games, but out of the two

Battlefield has the MOST. Call of Duty’s multiplayer

game modes require no dlc, there are 10 game modes

in the core playlist that require no dlc whatsoever. In

Battlefields multiplayer game modes there are 7 game

modes that require no dlc, all the rest require dlc you

must pay for.

I don’t think it really matters which game you

play, but if you would like to spend less money and

have more fun than be stressed with spending money

on dlc, I suggest you play Call of Duty for quick, fun,

and less expensive gameplay.

The fifth most popular dog is the beagle. This type of breed is well known for scent. They also help hunters find small game. Their personality includes curious, friendly, and merry. This type of dog isn’t the most active dog but its not the laziest dog

The fourth most popular is the bulldog. This breed is calm, courageous, and friendly. Did you know this dog has 10 col-ors and 4 markings? This dog is also not the most active dog, but isn’t the laziest.

The third most popular is the Golden Retriever. This breed is devoted, friendly, and intelligent. This dog is an average and active dog. This breed only has 3 colors. Golden Retrievers are also used successfully in field trials, hunting, and as guide dogs for the blind.

The second most popular is the German Shepherd. This breed is confident, courageous, and smart. This dog has only 11 col-ors and no markings. This dog is only a little bit more active than a golden retriever.

And the most popu-lar dog breed is the Labrador Retriever. This breed is friendly, active, and outgoing. This breed also has 3 colors and no mark-ings. This dog is the

most active dog on this list. The 3 colors of this dog are black, yellow, and chocolate. This type of lab plays well with others.

All About Ari! Teacher of the Month By: Rubi Vasquez

This year we have a

new student. Her name is Ari-

anna S. Alarcon. She was

born on December 2, 2001.

She was raised in Walnut, and

lives with her parents and her

two sisters. She has two dogs,

a turtle, and a fish. Ari´s fa-

vorite sport has been soccer.

Her favorite foods are both

Mexican and Argentinean food. She also likes to eat

spices.

Ari went to Magnolia before coming to Briggs.

She says she liked her old school better because she

misses her friends. She came here because she got into

so much trouble back at Magnolia. Now, here at Briggs

she hangs out with Angeline, Jessica, and Jessie, but her

best friend is Angeline.

In conclusion, it’s a pleasure to have her here

she is a chill person I hope you can all be friends with

her. She is also one of the funniest people I know. She

messes around so much but she always makes me laugh

well, I hope she has a great year, here with us.

The Teacher of the month I have chosen is Ms. Weinstein. I have chosen her because she is a very good science teacher and can al-ways put a smile on someone’s face. Ms. Wein-stein was born March 30, 1990. Her full name is Dan-ielle Erin Weinstein.

Before Ms. Weinstein even thought about being a teacher she played soccer. To this day she still loves it and plays on an adult team. When she was in high school she realized that she wanted to be a teacher, because she loved working with students. What inspired her to teach is when she was working as a EMT she loved to help and teach the mentally challenged to learn. She wanted to be-come a science teacher because she was very interest-ed and it never seemed to get old to her.

Mrs. Weinstein is 5’7” and is currently 25. She grew up in Chino Hills, and does not own any pets but she does have a younger sibling. She is currently in college working to get into law. She is a very good teacher and is always energetic. If notes gets boring she might say a funny comment or even put on music. Ms. Weinstein is a very good teacher and I think no eighth grader finds her boring.

Playing sports not only makes you active, but

it makes you healthier and happier and you also bene-

fit from being physically fit. If you play more than

three times a week it makes you healthier. It doesn’t

matter what sport you play as long as you’re active

actually, you have to like it too so that you have fun

playing it.

Sports help you build confidence and lets you

interact with other people to build social skills. Sports

will help you academically because you need to have

one day you want to play in any professional leagues.

You also get the proper exercise your body

needs to keep you healthy so you live longer and

stronger than people who aren’t active as well as get-

ting the oxygen your body needs. You have your car-

dio exercise for your heart and weight training to give

you strength because as you get older you can lose

strength.

So, it really doesn’t matter what sport you play

as long as you are active and enjoying what you do

and most importantly keeping yourself hydrated at the

same time.

These are the top 5 most expensive cars in the world. These cars that you may or may not know. Once you learn about these cars and their prices, you might be able to get one when you are older.

Bugatti Veyron Super Sports- This car is the fast-est car there is. It can reach 269.86 mph and costs $2.4 million. This car is well-known and many sport stars have it. Besides

that it has a computer controlled transmission and its shift time is 150 milliseconds.

Lykan Hypersport- This car has a very futuristic look and speed and power. Its top speed is 240 mph and costs $3.4 million. This car is very expensive

because its limited with stock numbers and its head-lights are embedded with emeralds.

Lamborghini Veneno- Many celebrities have this car and with a speed of 221 mph I would want it too. It cost $4.5million and only 9 were made. This car is so expensive because of

its design and is very similar to Sci-fi movies with cars.

Koenigsegg CCXR Trevita- This car isn’t the coolest looking or fastest. Its top speed is 254 mph and cost $4.8 million. This car is so expensive because its fin-ish is made with diamonds.

It has a very bug like shape and has lots of power.

Maybach Exelero- this car was custom made for a company called Fulda Tires. Its top speed is 218 mph and cost $8.0 million. This car is so expensive and is used in music videos

and movies.

Teens are...finish the sentence. Many adults be-lieve teens are disrespectful, lazy, and narcissistic. Are teens just some rebellious kids looking for attention or are they normal human beings going through a phase?

Some adults believe that teens are just lazy kids with conceited attitudes. Yes we have our moments but does that really define us? I've also heard the word care-less come from adults. Maybe most teens don't have much interest in global warming or politics, but they do care. Teens are interested in different topics than adults.

Yes, I can't avoid the fact that this generation of teenagers is technology based. We were born in an era where things are much easier. We don't have to read a book to figure something out. All we have to do is Google it. We have the world in these small devices that fit in our pockets. Teens are addicted because texting, posting, and tweeting is their way to stay I touch with the world. Maybe us being technology based is not such a bad thing. Maybe it's one of our benefits.

Take a second to think about it from our per-spectives. Would you like someone judging you when you are simply trying to figure yourself out? You can't just judge a book by its cover. People can't just stereo-type teenagers with their few real encounters.

In conclusion, many negative things are said and thought about us teenagers. Some main words I have heard are disrespectful, lazy, and narcissistic. We are not disrespectful we are speaking our minds. We are not lazy we are just in need for someone's attention. We are not narcissistic we are trying to figure out who we are. Don't let some bad impression completely ruin your thoughts on generation Z.

Ahuizotl- This creature was created by the Aztecs, supposedly a mix of a monkey and a dog resulting in four hands, an additional hand on its tail, and canine like features. Its water-proof fur clumps up to create spikes. The creature has an unnatural liking for human flesh, nails, eyes, and

teeth. They believed that the creature lived in or by the water. The creature supposedly protected fish by killing off fisherman, but later legends had it drowning anyone near the water.

Jersey Devil- The Jersey Devil is the “Mythical Creature” of New Jersey. It is described with a kangaroo body, goat’s head, bat wings, horn, hooves, and a forked tail. The legend goes that a Mrs. Shrouds of Leeds Point, NJ, made a wish that if she ever had another child, she wanted it to be a

devil. Her next child was born misshapen and de-formed. She sheltered it in the house and on a stormy night, the child flapped it's arms, which turned into wings, and escaped out the chimney and was never seen by the family again.

Curupira- The Curupira lives in the forests of Brazil, it has bright red hair, resembles a man, but its feet are turned backwards. The creature uses its backwards feet to confuse hunters and travelers. He is a pro-tector of the environment, he de-fends plants and animals from hunt-

ing, fishing, and other harmful actions.

Wendigo- Wendigos are believed to live in Minnesota and Canada. The Wendigo are described as over fif-teen feet tall, glowing eyes, long fangs, claws, and overly long tongues. The creature was once a human, but was changed into an immortal spirit when it resorted to

cannibalism. They have perfect eyesight and are incredi-ble hunters. The creature has the ability to mimic voic-es, in order to lure out it's prey.

Madremonte- The Madremonte is from Colombian folklore, she has large teeth and eyes, and bony hands. She controls the winds, rains, and all of the vegetation. Her role is to protect nature. She pun-ishes anyone who invades her terri-tory by making them lost, confus-

ing them by changing the paths and the mountains until they become dizzy and sleep. If she finds children on her territory, they are transported away to be hidden in a waterfall, never to be seen again.

Chupacabra- The Chupacabra is believed to live in parts of the Amer-icas, it is described as a heavy crea-ture, roughly the size of a small bear, with a row of spikes along its back. The creature is infamous for drink-ing the blood of livestock.

The Boy, is a supernatural movie that is rated PG-13 and comes out January 22. The Boy is about a young American woman, Greta, trying to leave her past. She takes a job in England as a care taker for a couple’s 8 year old son named Brahms while his family goes on a long vacation, but Brahms is not a human boy.

She arrives at the house and notices something is not right. Mr. & Mrs. Heelshire have a list of strict rules to follow as she cares for their son, Brahms. They mysteriously warn Greta that not following the rules will cause something terrible to happen. The most ter-rifying fact is that Brahms is not an actual 8 year old boy. He's a life-sized doll! His parents care for him, just like a real boy. "If you love him, he will love you back," Mr. & Mrs. Heelshire tell Greta.

Preview: The Boy

Greta begins to notice that every time she breaks a rule,

something weird happens. Like the doll is found in dif-

ferent places where Greta did not leave it. Determined

to uncover the mystery behind this doll, Greta asks the

local grocery delivery man for help. He shares disturb-

ing details about the Heelshire family's past. Leading

Greta to realize that she wasn't just hired, she was cho-

sen.

It's not possible to have everyone like you in life. Sure, you know this intellec-tually, but emotionally it can be hard to accept that not everyone is your fan. Stay cheerful, just keep concentrating on the fact that the world has to accept you for who you are.

Try to get outside as much as you can to take in the fresh air and get some exercise. No matter what the weather is like, you need a little out-ing every now and then to get you back on track.

If you are trying to find more time in your day, the way you go about finding it depends on what you need the time for. Your priorities need to shift to-ward the personal now.

When you come across someone from a different background or cul-ture, start up a conversation. Even just a few minutes of small talk will help you get insight and new inspi-ration.

You have a huge amount of outgoing energy inside of you, and it will help you connect with people really well. A silly joke or unique observation, when shared with another person, can serve as a foundation for further relations.

You know who you can trust. More importantly, you know who you can't trust. When it comes to the company you keep, you have to watch for plot-ters. There are people who are up to no good.

You need a boost of confidence, and the best place to find it is with your closest friend. Call them up and tell them what's going on. Share your concerns with them and see what they say. They will help you see that you can do this!

Someone you admire a lot is availa-ble to be your mentor -- all you have to do is ask! You can't be shy when you're so close to such a great op-portunity. You can no longer sit on the sidelines of your own life. Get in the game and start playing,

Your vision is almost infra-red, probing deep below the surface of things. You will quickly see how peo-ple are very different from what they are pretending to be. You will know when you find someone you can trust.

Your popularity is in no danger right now, even though you might be wor-ried. Why not just get more proactive about your social life? Instead of wait-ing for an invitation, throw one out to someone else!

You have a calm energy around you -- the people you'll be dealing with know how to take care of business the right way, without drama. Stop worrying so much about how things are going to go.

is two squads of four fighting to get the most paint of

their team’s color on the ground before the timer stops.

Undertale: In this game the player controls a human

child as they navigate the fictional Underground. The

inhabitants of the underground are called “monsters”, a

diverse and intelligent group who have been banished

from the surface following a war of humanity.

Batman: Arkham Knight: This game follows Batman

as he tries to stop the takeover of Gotham from all the

Batman villains.

Super Mario Maker: This Super Mario game lets you

make and play levels to your own imagination.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt: This game is roleplaying

fantasy game. It covers creatures from the minds of

George R.R. Martin to J.R.R Tolkien.

Metal Gear Solid V: This First Person Shooter/

Strategy game follows Solid Snake.

Rise of the Tomb Raider: This game follows Lara

Croft in an adventure, strategy game.

Star Wars Battlefront: This is a First Person Shooter

that takes place in the Star Wars universe.

Call of Duty Black Ops 3: This is a First Person

Shooter set in the year 2065. There is Zombies mode,

Multiplayer, and Story mode.

Fallout 4: This game won the game of the year award.

This game takes place in a post apocalyptic Boston. Set

in the year 2287, 200 years after a nuclear war.

Nike: Nike shoes are one of the most popular athletic shoes. These shoes are mostly for sports or for any other use. Famous basketball player, Kobe Bryant, wears Nike shoes when he’s draining threes. Al-so, people want nice, fit shoes so

they can enjoy walking. Most observers would agree that Nike shoes tend to be superior at all price points. Nike is an American company that produces well-made shoes.

Adidas: Adidas shoes are good shoes that have multiple purposes. They have regular shoes and regu-lar fashion shoes. Adidas are known for their soft, cushion walk/running shoes. There’s a fa-mous footballer, Toni Kroos, that

is said he wears older white Adidas boots. Adidas is a German company.

Converse: Converse shoes are more of a basketball and cheerleading kind of shoe. The type of shoes comes with different colors and different styles. Larry Johnson wore Converse for his basketball games. The thing about these shoes is that they are

similar in size than other street shoes.

Vans: Vans are for surfing, skating, s k a t e b o a r d i n g , s n o w b o a r d i n g , BMX, MotoX, and snowboarding. Fa-

What is Snapchat? Snap-chat is a social me-dia app where you can send picture and videos. The app was created by Evan Spiege, Bob-by Murphy, and Reggie Brown. All three men created Snapchat while

they were students at Stanford University, the app is rated 12+ and it also has 2.6 stars out of 5 stars.

Snapchat has cool features, like when you hold your face on the screen you get some funny faces. You can also make a video on Snapchat fast, super fast, slow, and reverse. Those are some of the things Insta-gram does not have that Snapchat does. By the way add me on Snap chat @megolina_3. The version is 9.20.0.0. The last time it was updated was Nov. 19, 2015.

On Snapchat there are 4 pages. The first page is on the left where the conversations are from friends. The second page is where you can snap pictures and send them to your friends. You can also post them so everyone can see. The third page on Snapchat has oth-er posts from the people you follow; they’re also known as stories. The fourth page is located on the second page, but instead you scroll to the top. That page has settings.

Also when you click a friend’s nickname it shows their snapchat score. A Snapchat score is a score Snapchat gives you depending how much you use it and how you use it. Users from the app were sending 2 billion videos and pictures per day.

The company has a valuation of $10-$20 bil-lion according to Wikipedia. Instagram, on the other hand you can post pictures and videos. You can also text, but I prefer Snapchat. In my opinion, I think Snapchat is better than Instagram. Which do you like?

Instagram? What is it? Insta-gram is an online app where you can share photos and videos. Instagram was released in the year of 2010. This app was created by Kevin Systram and Mike Krieger. In-stagram is rated 4.2

out of 5 stars.

Instagram has tons of stuff you can do on it. Instagram has 5 pages. The first page shows where peo-ple post pictures. The second page shows where you can explore and find new people to follow and explore other users’ posts. The third page is where you can post a picture that you choose. Once you've taken a photo or have selected one from your phone or ipod, you can edit it by applying filters. First you tap the filter you'd like to apply. Next tap the filter again if you want to ad-just filter strength up or down using the slider. Then tap the check to save your changes. Finally, tap next to add a caption and location to share your photo. The next page is called activity. Activity helps you stay up-to-date on recent activity from people you are following. Finally the last page is your profile aka your feed. This page shows all your posts, how many followers you have, and who you are following.

Here are some fun facts about Instagram: Did you know that Kylie Jenner is the celebrity with the most selfies? Did you also know that Nike is the most followed brand? Yes, Justin Bieber is the most followed person.

Snapchat on the other hand has great features and you can also post pictures and videos but they only last 24 hours. Are you always bored? Have you just wanted

something to laugh at, or maybe a DIY to do? Like me,

you’d probably look on YouTube. But then you see all

these different videos, and wonder which one to choose.

I’ve had this problem a ton of times, but finally found

YouTubers I love! I researched a bit, and found 5

YouTubers I recommend. They post daily, are super fun-

ny, do cool DIYs and tips, and will always have you

wanting to watch them.

1.)Jc Caylen and Kian Lawley — I totally recommend

these two hilarious guys because they always bring a

smile to my face and are my favorite! They have current-

ly +1m subscribers and

over 90 hilarious videos.

2.) Ricky Dillon — The cool part about Ricky is that he

used to be in the group Our Second Life. Even though

they aren't in a group anymore, they still guest star in

each other's videos! I recommend Ricky because he is

sweet, honest, and does super hilarious videos of differ-

ent challenges with other YouTubers, taste-testing for-

eign candies/foods, and anything else you can think of.

But you can always count on him to make you smile!

Every one of his +2m subscribers counts on him to post

a video every Sunday.

Ricky even sings his own song, which you can

purchase in iTunes. My favorites that you should listen

to are “Live it Up” and “Ordinary.” Ricky just wants to

make us have a good time listening to his music and

laughing and enjoying his videos. His first album is going

3.) Tyler Oakley (Matthew Tyler Oakley) — I rec-

ommend Matthew, or Tyler, because he has a great

sense of humor, is an amazing author, and has a kind

heart. Tyler wrote a book about his life called Binge in

2015, in which he admits his name is actually Matthew.

His YouTube channel has over 380 videos fea-

turing the famous people we know and love. Tyler real-

ly cares about all +7m of his fans by posting every

Tuesday and Friday! Tyler trusts us so much he told us

things about himself no one else knows. Whether it's

with his laugh, videos, or even his personality, he

4.)Ryan Higa — I

loved, and does any dare we ask! She is so creative by

coming up with DIYs about hairstyles, costumes, make
