The Africa Twin is back! It was first designed to withstand thousands of miles of desert and dirt- now it’s returning to do it all over again.
The bike has been designed to conquer any landscape, whether that be mountain, desert, rock, sand- and everything in between. Wow does it comes with an impressive history, ever since its dominance at the Paris Dakar rally in the 1980s. This was when the bike was named due to its success and the fact the event was largely held in Africa. The Africa Twin was then born in 1988 for customers, after launching a production version of the NXR750.
Let us take you through some of the bikes key features that you should be aware of:
All- Terrain PerformanceWith 98Nm of torque, the Africa Twin is built to take you all the way from tarmac touring to off-road rally. The Africa Twin packs an all-new 4-stroke 1000cc parallel twin engine. It can be used for an array of different uses, whether that is using its muscle to take on extreme off- road environments, long distance touring, this is made possible from its smooth comfort, or indeed for your everyday commute due to its agility.
Grip the GroundThe Africa Twin’s optional Anti- Locking Braking System (ABS) and Honda Selectable Torque Control (HSTC) provide a new level of advanced traction. The advanced systems keep you in control when you have to brake hard. If the sensors detect a wheel lock, a series of valves use a pulsating braking sequence to quickly stop the bike without losing traction.

Light Touch ControlThe Africa Twin might look like an off-road powerhouse. But is lightweight construction keeps it nimble on the road, too. The bike weighs in at just 212kg, due to its minimal bodywork, lightweight steel frame and a camshaft made from the same lightweight material as the Fireblade.
Splashes of StyleThe Africa twin is full of neat design touches that nod to the past. They include its dual headlights, its selection of 3 fantastic colour schemes and its homage to the original classic styling that still looks great today.
Two VersionsThe standard ABS model is on sale for £10,499, with a dual clutch transmissions (DCT) version available for £11,299. The DCT version comes with different modes that you can match to your environment; Standard Manual Mode, D Mode, S Mode and G Switch. This is then topped off with the DCT, which ah allows it the ability to detect inclines and altering the gear shift pattern depending on the grade of incline.

The 2016 Dakar Rally is over, and did not result in Team HRC being victorious. But this does mean the focus will now immediately switch to changing their fortunes in the 2017
event. Team HRC will now be going all out to achieve the Dakar Rally title in 2017.
The data from the 2016 event is currently being analysed, and the foundations for a year-long project are being planned, all as preparation for the team to capture the rally’s top prize next year.
2016 was Team HRC’s fourth year back in the event, and ended in disappointment after a bad run of luck put an end to what had appeared to be a promising opening week. Although the team finished empty-handed, they were more resolved than ever to take top honours next time round.

before the rest day and another after having led the rally for three consecutive days. Even though the team endeavoured such setbacks, their never-say-die team attitude prevailed, and a promising debut from rookies Kevin Benavides and Ricky Brabec, lead to fourth and ninth overall finishes.
Another special mention for team riders included Paolo Ceci who clinched two stage wins, whilst also coming to the aid of two team mates
when they ran into trouble on separate occasions. Team HRC after the event expressed their gratitude for
all of the sponsors and collaborators who loyally supported the team through thick and thin. They also gave a huge thank you to the fans who offers very active support on social media.
Taichi Honda, Team HRC Rally Project Leader said: “First of all, I would like to thank the whole of Team HRC: riders, mechanics, technical crew and all the other team members for their work and efforts throughout the season that has finished with this 2016 edition of the Dakar Rally. Likewise, thanks also to all the Honda fans who have supported us during the race.The Dakar has finished. It has been a hard race for us, we have had some good results, some stage victories, some promising results from the youngest riders of both Team HRC and Honda South America Rally Team, plus other results that will make our next participation all the more effective. We will improve the bike and we will come back and battle to get a win in the next Dakar.”

To kick off the year, we are going to introduce you to Chiswick Honda Bike’s Business Manager, Matt Dent, who has now been with us for over 8 years.
Matt is 32 years old and currently lives in Kingston West London. He has been in London his entire life, after growing up in Clapham, South London. Since Matt was 16 years he has been heavily involved in the Motorcycle Industry and now has over 16 years’ experience!
Matt started to work at Chiswick Honda at 24 years old, after being a Motorcycle Mechanic for 8 years. He decided to have a career change and become a sales executive. What a decision that was! Matt currently holds a number of records for Chiswick Honda Bikes, including most bike sales in one year and most total sales by a motorcycle sales executive since the dealership opened. This success led to Matt becoming the Motorcycle Business Manager, and started the role a year and half ago. Since then he has been working closely with Sales Manager, Guy Steel, to bring the business forward and strive for the highest scores in customer satisfaction.
Matt’s favourite part of the job, is the opportunity to sell some fantastic products in a modern showroom that stocks the complete current Honda range. He believes the quality of the Honda products is a huge benefit to the sales staff, as it puts them in a good starting position against the competition. The Africa Twin is Matt’s favourite bike in the current Honda range, due to it being fun to ride, it’s quality and being ideal for a 1000cc commuting bike.
Matt’s love for motorcycles like most of us started at 16 years old, by taking advantage of getting mobile as quickly as possible. He acquired his full licence at 18 years old and bought his first big bike, a VFR400. He described the best part of this bike was the sound of its V4 engine. Matt believes the best thing about riding Motorbikes is the fact that it save time by avoiding traffic, more fun over a car and not having to pay for parking. Track days are another great part of a having a motorcycle licence and Matt regularly takes part in them, with his favourite circuit being at Donnington.
