All units comply with BSEN 60947-6-1 and are designed to fulfill certain requirements for fire safety as layed down in BS9999. All changeover solutions should be chosen to suit the load of the facility; the KVA rating of a generator is not a reliable indicator for rating an ATS panel, the primary mains supply and the power requirements of the installation should always be considered when selecting an ATS panel. Choosing an Automatic Transfer Switch These ATS panels are designed specifically for advanced mains to generator applications where much more functionality is required than that which the M2B system offers. Fitted with a Deep Sea Electronics digital controller they are highly functional and adjustable; they are designed specifically for use with mains to generator systems and require a small but constant DC supply, normally taken from the battery on the GenSet. M2G - Mains To Generator These ATS units are a budget mains to generator model and include a warm up and cool down timer as well as a volt free start contact on mains failure to signal the GenSet to start the generator. They do not rely on a DC power supply to operate so will function equally well as a mains to mains system. This versatility also makes it ideal for integrating into systems with existing ATS panels which are already starting the generator, as the warm up timer prevents it from closing to load until the generator is fully up and running. M2B - Mains To Backup These ATS units are used where the backup supply is always assumed to be available. Usually this is because the secondary supply is coming from a separate transformer to the primary supply; or, for fire safety purposes, from two breakers from the same supply with alternative cable routing. They can however also be used when the secondary supply is coming from a generator where the GenSet is handling all of the supply monitoring, the start up of the generator and is able to isolate it from the ATS panel until the supply is stable. M2M - Mains To Mains We use two methods of switching in our ATS panels; dual interlocked contactors and motorised changeover switches. Both are electronically and mechanically interlocked to conform to British and European standard BSEN 60947-6-1. Typically we use contactors up to 160A and motorised changeover switches at 200A and above; this is for a number of reasons, including reliability, but the main reason is cost. We can provide motorised changeover switches at lower ratings and contactors at higher ratings as well as interlocked MCCB and ACB solutions for special requirements. Switching Devices

Choosing an Automatic Transfer Switch

These ATS panels are designed specifically for advanced mains to generator applications where muchmore functionality is required than that which the M2B system offers. Fitted with a Deep Sea Electronicsdigital controller they are highly functional and adjustable; they are designed specifically for use withmains to generator systems and require a small but constant DC supply, normally taken from the batteryon the GenSet.

M2G - Mains To Generator

These ATS units are a budget mains to generator model and include a warm up and cool down timer aswell as a volt free start contact on mains failure to signal the GenSet to start the generator. They do notrely on a DC power supply to operate so will function equally well as a mains to mains system. This versatility also makes it ideal for integrating into systems with existing ATS panels which are already starting the generator, as the warm up timer prevents it from closing to load until the generator is fully up and running.

M2B - Mains To Backup

These ATS units are used where the backup supply is always assumed to be available. Usually this isbecause the secondary supply is coming from a separate transformer to the primary supply; or, for fire safety purposes, from two breakers from the same supply with alternative cable routing. They can however also be used when the secondary supply is coming from a generator where the GenSet is handling all of the supply monitoring, the start up of the generator and is able to isolate it from the ATS panel until the supply is stable.

M2M - Mains To Mains

We use two methods of switching in our ATS panels; dual interlocked contactors and motorised changeoverswitches. Both are electronically and mechanically interlocked to conform to British and European standardBSEN 60947-6-1. ATS Panel Remote Indication Units

The ATS panels are supplied with volt free remote indication terminals which can be used to inform remotesystems, such as a BMS, of the ATS panel’s status. We supply a range of remote indication boxes whichcan be powered from these terminals.

*Note: All M2G panels need a continuous DC supply to power the control panel. This is normally takenfrom the generator battery; hence the control voltage has been selected to match normal battery voltages.

If you do not wish to use thegenerator battery a built-in or stand-aloneself-maintained power source can be used.

Start Inhibit This mode prevents operation of the secondary (generator) supply when the primary supply fails. It will changeover to the primary supply to load as long as it is available and will not start or switch over to the generator supply.

Auto In this mode the controller will send the GenSet start signal on primary supply failure and switch the generator to load. When the primary supply returns the controller will return the load to the primary supply.

Prohibit Return On primary supply failure this mode allows the generator to start and switch the ATS load output over to it, as it does with the auto function but requires manual intervention to switch it back to the mains supply.

Manual This gives the user manual control of the power supplies, it will send the GenSet start signal to make both supplies available. Pressing the S1 button will close the mains supply to load and pressing the S2 button will close the generator supply to load.

Test When the panel is in test mode it will send the start signal to the GenSet and switch the load to the generator. It will continue to run in this way until switched back to a different mode.

Configuring the panel The controller can be configured from the control interface on the door or by using a configuration software free to download. A full set of configuration constructions is included with the panel and the configuration software is available on line from Deepsea electronics.

Sheet Steel Enclosed ATS Bypass Switches I-II

• For life safety ATS installations to BS8519:2010• Break-Before-Make operation• Door interlocked padlockable handles• Fully load rated AC23A 415-690V• Ingress protection IP55

Switchgear Systems have developed a range ofswitches that help provide bypass of Life Safety ATS panels, in a minimum number of operations, for bothsingle line and dual line switching.Designed to be fitted under our ATS switches these bypass switches combine with the ATS to provide an integrated system. This solution offers isolation in bypass mode with complete separation allowing safe working during installation, set-up, or maintainance on the ATS panel without loss of supply.

Single Line Bypass This provides bypass of one incoming supply to the ATS whilst isolating the other. It maintains continuityof supply to load while undergoing safe installation, set-up or maintainance on the ATS panel.

Dual Line Bypass For critical installations this provides bypass of both supplies around the ATS and uses a manual changeover, on either load, to allow selection of supply in the case of a primary supply failure. It maintains continuity of either supply while undergoing safe installation, set-up or maintainance on the ATS panel.

Alternative Configurations Two position I-II Make Before Break switches can be suppied to special order.Three position I-II-III Break Before Make switches are also available. These provide a central test position. The test position bypasses the ATS while still maintaining the incoming supplies allowing it to be testedwithout affecting the rest of the installation.

When ordered alongside our ATS panels (pages 14-19) these will bemechanically and electronically fitted to the bottom of the ATS (left)

Alternative layouts are available upon request (examples seen right)

At Switchgear Systems Ltd. we build most of our switchgear in wall mounting sheet steel powder coated RAL 7035 enclosures. There should be no need for spreader boxes with our equipment as the enclosures are suitably sized for the spreading of typical cable sizes suitable for the switchgear’s current carrying capacity. Where larger sizes and quantities of cables are being used we can put them into bigger enclosures and manufacture bespoke extension terminals. As well as the standard enclosure we also offer a range of material options for both the enclosure and gland plate/s, as well as a number of accessories.

Enclosure material options:• Standard RAL7035 sheet steel• Alternative colour options• Stainless steel enclosures• GRP enclosures• Floor standing sheet steel

Gland plate material options:• Standard sheet steel• Aluminium• Brass• Insulation board• Brushed cable entry

Accessories:• Mounting brackets• Padlockable hasps• Metering and CT’s• Indicator lights• Castell Interlocks• And many others
