Reference CD player has been designed as the ultimate source
component. With stunning looks and state of the art design the
RED utilises ground breaking technology to give the most

The Chord CPM 2650 integrated
amplifier is designed around the latest
versions of the highly successful
CPA2500 and SPM650 Pre and Power
amplifier combinations. It has all the
flexibility of its bigger brother, the
CPM 3350. Line level source selection
for up to six input signals can be
achieved using the supplied remote
handset or via the front panel controls.
Two tape loops allow you to record one
source whilst also listening to another.
A separate switchable preamplifier
output is available for bi-amping.

The Chord CPM 3350 integrated amplifier
design is based on the CPA3200E and
SPM1050 pre and power amplifier
combinations but developed specifically to
give a one box solution. It offers all the
flexibility of a Chord preamplifier with linelevel source selection for up to six input
signals using the remote handset or via the
push button front panel controls. Individual
input gains can be selected to prevent large
changes in volume when switching between

OurTechnology is some of the most advanced in the Audio Industry and stems from my earliest days as an Avionics Engineer
working on black boxes for aircraft. We were regularly given a space the size of a chickens wing at the back of these boxes in
which we had to shoe horn perhaps half a kilowatt of power. Invariably that meant we were pushing the limits of power supply
technology to complete the task. So with this knowledge base I was able to apply it to my hobby at that time of making
amplifiers for myself and friends. It occurred to me that effectively an amplifier is suspended between its power supply rails
there is a positive supply and a negative supply and a mid point, zero point known as ground.This reference point is at the back
of the amplifier and of course it tends to get pulled around when an amplifier is swinging between its rails.This would be no
problem but its the same reference for the front end of the amplifier so effectively if the loudspeaker is pulling on it, it
introduces a time lagged distortion component into the amplifiers input and this is one reason why amplifiers can burst into
oscillation, especially if you connect them to a highly capacitive load.The normal way of solving this is to make the front end
stages of the amplifier have a slower more sluggish response by the increasing the local feedback then opening up the loop
responses on the intermediate stages; this is the conventional way to keep an amplifier stable. I thought I could negate this
distortion component getting back into the amplifier and open up the responses by drawing power from both positive and
negative rails simultaneously at any time in the amplifiers output swing. I did this by using a cross coupled magnetic device
know as a bifilar wound choke which acts rather like a gyroscope. It likes to remain in balance with equal and opposite currents
flowing in both directions and when it sees a current demand from say the positive rail it automatically acts like a transformer
and pulls more current from the negative rail.The concept worked and I found I could open up the loop response throughout
the amplifier making it sound far more open whilst remaining completely stable.This concept has been enhanced and refined
over the last 30 years but remains the underlying principle of all Chord Electronics amplifiers.My collaboration with Robert Watts a digital design genius who spent the last 30 years developing DAC technology started in
1996. He had an ultra high performance design using filed programmable gate array technology and our breakthrough came
with chips that had an extremely high gate count. He designed a small card to drive a large pulse array switching ladder which
became the DAC64. There are few products in the world that can reach the performance of the DAC64 as most companies
producing commercial and industrial DACs use commercially available chips from Analog Devices or Burr Brown. Fabricated
from pieces of silicon around 3mm square they have structures fabricated at about 100 to 200 microns in size. Their arrays
contain the same technologies as ours but our pulse arrays are fabricated from discrete surface mount components and these
are physically 10,000 times larger and therefore we can maintain much greater accuracies and consequently significantly better
performance.
Our product styling comes from form following function. I draw my design influences from both aerospace and architecture. I
truly love great architecture. Greats such as Richard Rogers, Frank Lloyd Wright and even Antonio Gaudi whose quirky joy
bursts from every building hes ever designed. It may be someday you may see a Gaudi inspired design from Chord, but thats
for another year.
