?What can I do to love God more?? This is a question often asked out of our desi re to

draw closer to God. Whi le i t is a worthy question, i t suggests that i f we loved God

more then God would love us more in return. The wonderful truth about the God we

bel ieve in is that God fi rst loves us. God does not love in return. God just loves. We

cannot earn that love, bargain for i t or do things so we deserve i t .

In the Gospel, Jesus outl ines how we are to respond to God who fi rst loves us. He

puts the response in the context of greatest of al l the commandments. He says we

are to love God wi th al l our heart, soul, mind and strength. Next, we are to love our neighbor as we love

ourselves. He sums i t al l up by saying, ?There is no greater commandment than these (12:28b-34).? Outl ining

the commandment to love in this way was shocking at the t ime because Jesus made love of God and love of

neighbor equal ly important. It is not love God, then love our neighbor. The sequence is: God fi rst loves us, in

response we are to love God and our neighbor. Another way of putt ing i t is to say that loving our neighbor is

the confi rmation that we mean i t when we say we love God.

Loving others requi res that we give of ourselves on behalf of someone else. Love means that we move outward

toward others in sharing our abi l i t ies, talents, t ime, energy and even our financial resources. We do not share

who we are and what we have in return for someone else?s love. We generously share a port ion of what we

have because i t is the right thing to do as people who are fi rst loved by God.

These past weeks of our parish?s stewardship renewal have reminded us that as disciples of Jesus we are to

l ive wi th thankful hearts. Out of that grati tude we grow in love, are of service to others

and generously share our gi fts. In the week ahead, may we prayerful ly discern what we

wi l l pledge next Sunday for our 2019 weekly support of Christ Cathedral Parish and our

efforts to bring the l i fe and love of Jesus to the world.

CATHOLIC NEWS / ANNOUNCEMENTS HOl y HourA Holy Hour for Hope and Heal ing is being offered for al l those who have experienced abuse of any form in thei r l ives, al l vict ims of abuse in our Church, and the lay and clerical leaders guiding the rebui lding of our Church. The next holy hour is Tuesday November 6 at 7 p.m. in the Arboretum. Priests wi l l be avai lable for reconci l iat ion during the Holy Hour. Al l are welcome.

Chr ist Cat hedr al unit y r estaur ant opens again Christ Cathedral Uni ty Restaurant wi l l be open again on Sunday, Nov. 11, 2018, from 7:00 a.m. unti l 7:00 p.m. We wi l l be serving pancakes from 7:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. and hamburgers and hot dogs from 12 noon unti l 7:00 p.m. Pre-sale t ickets are avai lable after al l Masses.

CHRISTMAS WREATHSThe Ladies Auxi l iary group wi l l be sel l ing wreaths between 9:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m on Sundays. Al l proceeds wi l l be going back to the church and our communi ty. FAITH FORMATION ?Mary: A Bibl ical Walk wi th the Blessed Mother? is an adult fai th formation opportuni ty that includes prayer, video presentations, and small group sharing. Through videos, part icipants wi l l visi t the most signi ficant places in Mary?s l i fe and draw closer to Christ as they deepen thei r devotion to Mary. Sessions are held on Wednesdays Nov 7, 14, and 28, December 5 and 19 from 6:30-9:00 p.m. in 4D of the Pastoral Center. The cost is $30 which includes a workbook and refreshments. THANKSGIVING MASSEveryone is invi ted to the annual Parish Thanksgiving Mass on Thursday, November 22, 2018 at 9:30 a.m. in the Arboretum. Wi th Fr. Christopher Smith, our parochial vicars, and deacons, we wi l l give thanks for the blessings we receive every day. We wi l l continue our tradi t ion of col lecting food donations for Christ Cathedral Parish Communi ty Outreach. Please bring canned or packaged, non-perishable food to this Mass; they wi l l be brought to the altar during the Offertory. Please note, this is the only Mass on Thanksgiving Day; there wi l l be no Mass at 6:30 a.m., 8:00 a.m. or 5:30 p.m.

Administ r ación de BienesNuestra renovación de la Administración de Bienes ya comenzo. Este año el tema es Viviendo con Agradecimiento?Creciendo en Amor, Si rviendo a Otros y Compartiendo Nuestros Dones. Reflexionaremos juntos en estos dones en las próximas semanas de la renovación.

"¿Qué puedo hacer para amar más a Dios?" Esta es una pregunta que frecuentemente nos hacemos por nuestro deseo de acercarnos a Dios. Por mientras que, si es una pregunta digna, sugiere que si amamos a Dios más, entonces Dios nos amaría más a cambio. La maravi l losa verdad sobre el Dios en que creemos es que Dios primero nos ama. Dios no ama a cambio. Dios sólo ama. No podemos ganar ese amor, ni negociarlo o hacer cosas para merecerlo.

En el Evangel io, Jesús nos dice cómo debemos responder a Dios que nos ama primero. Él pone la respuesta en el contexto del mayor de todos los

mandamientos. Él dice que debemos amar a Dios con todo nuestro corazón, alma, mente y fuerza. A continuación, debemos amar a nuestro prójimo como nos amamos a nosotros mismos. Lo resume todo diciendo: "No hay mayor mandamiento que éstos (12:28B-34)." Al enfatizar que el mandamiento de amar de esta manera fue sorprendente en ese momento porque Jesús hizo el amor de Dios y el amor al prójimo igualmente importante. No es amar a Dios, y después amar a nuestro prójimo. La secuencia es: Dios primero nos ama, en respuesta debemos amar a Dios y a nuestro prójimo. Otra manera de ponerlo es deci r que amar a nuestro prójimo es la confi rmación de que realmente lo sentimos cuando decimos que amamos a Dios.

Amar a otros requiere que demos de nosotros mismos en nombre de otra persona. El amor signi fica que nos desplazamos hacia los demás para comparti r nuestras habi l idades, talentos, t iempo, energía e incluso nuestros recursos financieros. No compartimos lo que somos y lo que tenemos a cambio del amor de otra persona. Compartimos generosamente una porción de lo que tenemos porque es lo correcto como personas que son primero amadas por Dios.

Estas últ imas semanas de la renovación de la administración de bienes de nuestra parroquia nos han recordado que como discípulos de Jesús debemos vivi r con corazones agradecidos. De esa grati tud crecemos en amor, somos de servicio a los demás y compartimos generosamente nuestros dones. En la semana que viene, podremos discerni r en oración lo que prometeremos el próximo domingo por nuestro apoyo semanal de 2019 de la Parroquia de la Catedral de Cristo y nuestros esfuerzos para traer la vida y el amor de Jesús al mundo.
