Parish Pastoral Council, What is it?
A parish pastoral council is the chief consultative body to the pastor. Consultation is a sharing of wisdom that enables the parish to carry out its mission. The pastoral council discerns issues that impact the lives of parishioners; prays, studies, and discusses those issues; and recommends practical ways of addressing them.
How is a parish pastoral council formed? Generally a four-step process is employed to form the Parish Pastoral Council. This process includes prayer, education, discernment and commitment.
Step 1: Prayer: Each meeting of the council begins and ends with a prayer experience as we focus on our baptismal call to build the kingdom of God. We ask everyone to pray for wisdom and openness for our parishioners and our pastor.
Step 2: Education: All parishioners learn more about the purpose and norms of Parish Councils through materials provided by the pastor. All parishioners interested in the Parish Pastoral Council are invited to an Information Meeting along with those who want to learn more about serving on the council. Anyone can come or recommend someone to come to this meeting.
Step 3: Discernment: A Discernment Meeting is held for those who attended the Information Meeting, are open to serving on the council and are invited by the pastor. The people in attendance consider the gifts and talents of each person and discern who is being called by the Holy Spirit to serve. Anyone wishing to be considered for discernment must attend the Information Meeting.
Step 4: Commitment: The final step to the process is the commissioning of new council members during the weekend Masses. Then the work of the council begins with an orientation of new members, followed by gathering information about the needs and desires of the parishioners so that the council can undertake the development of recommendations for short-term and long-term plans. I would like to invite anyone interested in learning more information to an information orientation on Tuesday, August 25 at 7 p.m.
ARISE TOGETHER IN CHRIST Coming This Fall! ‘ARISE Together in Christ’ is a three-year parish-centered process of spiritual renewal and evangelization that enables people to deepen their faith, develop a closer relationship with Christ, grow in community, and reach out in service to others. It emphasizes people living in good relationship with one another, as they make concrete applications of the gospel to their life situations. We will be inviting people to have weekly meetings in their homes for six weeks in the coming fall season. This will be a GREAT opportunity to build community and get to know others at CGS.

Consejo Pastoral Parroquial, ¿Qué es?
Un consejo pastoral parroquial es el cuerpo principal de consulta del pastor. Se trata de un intercambio de sabiduría que permite a la parroquia para llevar a cabo su misión. El consejo pastoral discierne las cuestiones que afectan la vida de los feligreses; ora, estudia y se analizan las cuestiones y recomienda formas prácticas de hacer frente a ellos.
¿Cómo se forma un Consejo pastoral parroquial? Generalmente se emplea un proceso de cuatro pasos para formar al Consejo Pastoral Parroquial. Paso 2: Educación: todos los feligreses aprenden más sobre el propósito y las normas de los consejos de la parroquia a través de materiales proporcionados por el pastor. Todos los feligreses interesados en el Consejo Pastoral de la parroquia están invitados a una reunión de información junto con aquellos que quieren aprender más acerca de servir en el Consejo. Ahora el trabajo del Consejo empieza con una orientación para los nuevos miembros, seguido de recopilación de información sobre las necesidades y deseos de los feligreses para que el Consejo pueda emprender el desarrollo de recomendaciones con planes a corto y a largo plazo. Me gustaría invitar a cualquier persona interesada una reunión de información para conocer más, el martes 25 de agosto a las 7pm.

Invitaremos a gente a tener reuniones semanales en sus hogares durante seis semanas este otoño. Esto será una GRAN oportunidad para construir comunidad y conocer a otros aquí en CGS.

Farewell to Deacon Pat Hancock After many years here serving the community of Christ the Good Shepherd, Deacon Pat Hancock has been reassigned to minister at St. Anne parish in Tomball, Texas. Deacon Pat’s last weekend with the CGS community will be August 22/23. He will be preaching at all the masses that weekend. We will be hosting a farewell reception for Deacon Pat in the Large Hall after the 12:30 p.m. Mass on Sunday, August 23. We all wish to thank him for his many years of service here and for his pastoral care to so many.

NEW Pastoral Council Discernment—Anyone interested in assisting Fr. James in forming the vision of pastoral ministry at Christ the Good Shepherd by serving on a newly formed pastoral council is invited to attend an information night Tuesday, August 25 at 7 p.m. We will be meeting in 206/208 on the second floor of the Parish Administration Building (PAC). This is an information meeting only in preparation for the discernment scheduled for Saturday, September 12 from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.
