From the Pastor’s Desk
The Pope concluded the World Meeting of Families with an outdoor Mass in Philadelphia last Sunday. There is much to say about the talks given during the World Meeting of Families, but I simply want to highlight one quote from Rick Warren, a pastor of a non-denominational church in California. Together with Cardinal Sean O’Malley, Pastor Warren gave the final keynote address at the conference. He began his talk by agreeing with Pope Francis, commenting that the family is threatened in a variety of ways: “In today’s society, materialism is idolized, immorality is glamorized, truth is minimized, sin is normalized, divorce is rationalized, and abortion is legalized. In TV and movies, crime is legitimized, drug use is minimized, comedy is vulgarized, and sex is trivialized. In movies, the Bible is fictionalized, churches are satirized, God is marginalized, and Christians are demonized. The elderly are dehumanized, the sick are euthanized, the poor are victimized, the mentally ill are ostracized, immigrants are stigmatized, and children are tranquilized. In families around the world, our manners are uncivilized, speech is vulgarized, faith is secularized, and everything is commercialized. Unfortunately, Christians, you and I, are often disorganized and demoralized, our faith is compartmentalized, and our witness it compromised. So what do we need? We need to revitalize our worship, minimize our differences, mobilize our members, and evangelize the lost, and we need to re-energize our families.” The key to re-energizing our families, according to those who spoke at the World Meeting of Families, is to find our joy in God’s love, and then to share that joy with others. Nothing less can stem the tide of secularization in our society. Our world, which at times can be so dark, is made brighter when Christians share the peace and purpose they have in God, Who is Love. The Sisters’ Corner The Missionary Servants of the Word will celebrate the Feast of Christ the Missionary on Saturday, October 24. Christ, sent
by the Father to serve and save a wounded human race, is our example of missionary activity. As Christians, we are also sent by the Father to share his peace, light, and love. Let us consider the ways in which we can imitate and continue the missionary work of Jesus.

El Papa concluyó el Encuentro Mundial de las Familias con una misa al aire libre en Filadelfia el domingo pasado. All Saints Academy Catholic School This week is Catholic Schools Week, a time to celebrate the importance of Catholic Schools in our Church and in our world.
