15TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIMES July 15, 2018
Dear Friends, Ordinary Time continues. There’s a spirit of mission in the scriptures this weekend. The prophet Amos is sent forth as well as Jesus sending forth his disciples. We can’t forget St Paul----probably the foremost missionary. Scriptures will never tell our stories of mission, but each one of us is sent forth as well. In the 13th Century, St Francis of Assisi gave a pep talk to his followers, "Let's go out and spread the Good News and if necessary use words.” Our Christmas in July Project continues. It is for the benefit of St Francis Inn in Kensington. Listed in the bulletin are suggestions from the “Inn” of their greatest needs. We’ll be collecting for the rest of the month. I’m happy we’re able to assist St. Francis Inn in their mission of spreading the good news. I received a couple of interesting notices from the Cathedral this past week. Thought it would be good to pass them on. The Cathedral has a group of volunteers called “Ambassadors”. They have the duty of being available to the visitors to the Cathedral. It’s a special place of worship with a wealth of history. The Ambassadors help the visitors feel at home in the sacred space and also pass on a bit of the history. They are also available for some of the many Archdiocesan events that take place there. The Cathedral is the parish Church for the entire Archdiocese. If you think you have some time and an interest to be involved, contact the Cathedral at 215-561-1314. The Cathedral Choir is also hosting a camp later this month for young singers from the ages of 8-15. If you know of any children with an interest in a program like that, contact the Cathedral at 215-561-1314. Vacations and summer activities change many routines. I do encourage you to still be regular with your contributions, either putting extra in the weekly collections or with your online giving. Your regular contributions are needed and appreciated. The Parish position of School Advancement Director has been open for a few months. A number of individuals inquired. There were interviews and a hiring this week. Our new Advancement Director is Kathryn McCarty. She is a recent graduate of Holy Family University. Her major was Communications with a track in Public Relations and a minor in Marketing. She did an internship in the Admissions Office of St Hubert High School and did a special promotional video for the FOP. She will begin in early August. Another personnel matter affects more of us. After two and half years as our Parish Music Director, Richard Grillone, will be moving on. Last week he informed me he received another music director offer from St Denis Parish in Delaware County that he felt he couldn’t pass up. I’m grateful to Richard for his contributions to the life of our parish. He will be missed by many. He’ll be with us through the weekend of July 29th. Hope the summer is a good one for you!
