Upcoming 2nd Collection for Haiti Oct. 29/30 Development and Peace – Caritas Canada is launching a major emergency relief effort to support those affected by Hurricane Matthew in Haiti. According to government figures, as of October 11, 1,000 persons have died, 61,000 people have been evacuated and 1.4 million are in need of humanitarian assistance, 750,000 of which have urgent needs. In Gressier, where Development and Peace collaborated in the construction of more than 500 houses with its partner ITECA after the 2010 earthquake, only one rooftop was torn off by Hurricane Matthew. Inhabitants report that despite winds of more than 200 km/hour their houses only suffered minor damage due to the high quality of the construction techniques and materials used. D&P was in Haiti before the earthquake, stayed after the earthquake, and will continue to do good work for many years to come. Changing the world, one family at a time. Donations placed in the collection on Oct. 29/30 will be forwarded to D&P. Cheques should be made out to Christ the King Parish and mark your envelope Haiti Relief. Whether you choose to donate or not, please keep our Haitian sisters and brothers
