HOMILY FROM POPE FRANCIS
At the heart of Pope Francis’ homily on Friday morning, 26 January 2018, in the Casa Santa Marta was a reflection on how to transmit faith. Pope Francis chose to highlight testimony. The Word without testimony has no strength: Faith, he affirmed, is to be transmitted through witness which gives strength to the Word and he commented on how people used to say of the first disciples: “How they love each other.” He noted that in some parishes today, many tongues can be heard wagging about this person or that… and instead of commenting on ‘how they love each other’ one could be enticed to comment on how people speak badly of each other, on “how they use their tongues like knives to ‘skin’ the other!” “How can you transmit the faith in an atmosphere that is spoilt by gossip, by slander?” he said. True testimony, the Pope explained means never speaking badly of the other, it means doing works of charity, visiting the sick, and it means asking oneself why others behave or live as they do. Pope Francis also emphasized the fact that evil acts as “counter-testimony” or as bad testimony: it takes away faith and weakens people.
MESSAGE FROM THE PASTOR
Next Sunday is the World Day of the Sick. The Church, as our Mother calls us to pray to God for the sick, especially, those who closer to us such as our parents, relatives and friends. Remember, we need to visit them also.
As we know that the ministry of Jesus to the sick is cen-tral to the life of the Church. When we visit the sick, we visit Jesus himself as he said.
So, let us come to the Church to pray for the sick and visit them in order to console them, helping them to reduce their pain and suffering.

COMPEDIUM OF THE CATECHISM
OF THE CATHOLIC CHURCH
8. What are the next stages of God's Revelation? God chose Abram, calling him out of his country, making him “the father of a multitude of nations” (Genesis 17:5), and promising to bless in him “all the nations of the earth” (Genesis 12:3). The people descended from Abraham would be the trustee of the divine promise made to the patriarchs. God formed Israel as his chosen people, freeing them from slavery in Egypt, es-tablishing with them the covenant of Mount Sinai, and, through Moses, giv-ing them his law. The prophets proclaimed a radical redemption of the peo-ple and a salvation which would include all nations in a new and everlasting covenant. From the people of Israel and from the house of King David, would be born the Messiah, Jesus.

Catholic Schools' Week February 4 – 10, 2017 This week we recognize the uniqueness of our schools as we proclaim Catholic Schools’ Week across the province of British Columbia. This year's theme is Care for Everyone In Our Common Home and together, with almost 22,000 students enrolled in 79 Catholic schools throughout the province, we celebrate the many ways Catholic schools create environments where our Catholic story is shared and celebrated. During this special week student learning will be highlighted, our many accomplishments will be celebrated, and we will enjoy gathering to acknowledge all those staff members, parents, Council and Parent Group members, and pastors, who have contributed to our schools’ level of excellence. Through these events, schools focus on the value Catholic education provides to young people and its valuable contributions to our church and our communities. Please take the time to participate in your school’s event. Our sincere thanks are extended to the many parishioners throughout the diocese for their ongoing support of Catholic Education through volunteer activities, donations, financial assistance and prayers. Feel free to visit the Nelson Diocesan Schools' website for more information about the schools of the diocese (www.cisnd.ca). Together in Christ,
Arthur Therrien Superintendent of Schools
