These past two weekends, there was plenty of new life in our church. All the second graders in the parish received their First Eucharist. It brings back those special memories from our own First Eucharistic days. PLEASANT HILL, CALIFORNIA

VOLUME I NUMBER 35 May 13, 2014 Dear School Families,

In the gospel it talks about life and what gives life? These past two weekends, there was plenty of

new life in our church. All the second graders in the parish received their First Eucharist. It brings back

those special memories from our own First Eucharistic days. The family is gathered together, the parish

family is gathered around and it shows the strong connection between the family and the faith

community. This gives us hope and reassurance that Jesus is about giving life and is life giving. It

reminds us of the sacredness of the sacrament. It is a teachable moment for all of us who have the

privilege of working with children. Be life givers… Gospel value is Love.

Prayers are requested for the Peterson Family (Suzanne’s Father and Grandfather of Celeste Gr.

6th, Greg ’10, Anneliese ’13 and the Nuti Family (Paul & Larry’s father and grandfather of Julia Gr. 6,

Emma, Gr. 3 and Ivo Gr. K) who went to heaven yesterday. Prayers are requested for Silvera’s

grandmother, John Marzo’s grandmother, Jack O’Leary (who is home recuperating from triple by-pass)

those who are hungry and homeless, those who are without work and those preparing for graduation.

Our next set of thank yous goes to the School Advisory Board and PTG... These two groups do

many things and work diligently to carry out the school’s mission. The School Advisory members are:

David Sanderson, Todd Jung, Kasey Curran, Vickie Kaplan, Denis Mohun, David Anderson, Allen

Brezac, John Hanecak, Teri Hurlbut, Armida Marshall, Andy Kraus, Bob Lewis, Cristina Margate, Janine

Gamble. The PTG members are: Janine Orr, Pam Johansen, Laurie Williams, Amy Ghisletta-Dumais,

Emily Brown, Mollie Callahan, Megan Lopoz, Jennifer Baker, Karen Gottschalk, Tana Silvera, Susan

Coloma, Elaine Maestro, Lori Martin, Carla & Casey Diaz, Theresa & Adrian Meyer, Kate & Mark

Halfon, Elizabeth & Paul Nuti, Juliette Cote, Krista Denton, Peggy Bruckner Marani, Heather Johnson,

Greg Williams, Christi Brown, MaryLynn Rogers, Lori Sanderson, Bob Miller.

They have produced the annual report (which is online) passed the budget, worked on the

Strategic plan and now have goals to match the areas of concern (this also will be online). They are a

group dedicated to advising the pastor and principal and working on different goals each year. We thank

them for their time, expertise and love of Christ the King School.

We would like to welcome Mr. Mike Doyle as the director of CLUB CTK. He brings a vast array

of experience leadership and working with students. We welcome him to our staff and are happy to have

him in CLUB CTK.

This is the big week! All eyes are looking to our parish plant as each day something new happens

to get ready for the Camp CTK festivities.

FESTIVAL NEWS

IMPORTANT GOOD NEIGHBOR POLICY: The excitement of Festival weekend is

upon us! Every year while we enjoy the food, fun, and games at our Parish Festival, our local

neighbors have families attending our event parking illegally, blocking their driveways and

homes. Please remember: DO NOT park in any No-Parking Zones, Red Zones, Driveways,

etc. I ask you all to please demonstrate the “Good Neighbor” policy this weekend and park

legally, and with thought to our elderly parishioners as well who attend our weekend Masses.

Let’s all get healthy and walk in from a distance giving them a close place to park. Additionally,

please exit the parking lots and turn right as this will help us to maintain a manageable flow of

traffic in and out of CTK. Thank you and we will see you there!

PRE-SALE TICKET PICK-UP: If you ordered Pre-sale festival tickets they will be

available for pick-up at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, in front of the Parish Hall. If you cannot

pick up at 3:00 they will be available at will call during festival hours.

FESTIVAL SPIRIT WITH FESTIVAL T-SHIRTS: Students can share their Festival

Spirit the remainder of this week by wearing a Festival t-shirt from any year to school with

uniform pants, shorts, jumpers or skirts, through Friday, May 16th. If they choose to not to wear a

festival t-shirt, they must be dressed in their school uniform.

FESTIVAL TALENT SHOW: ***CTK Festival Talent Show – May 17, 2014 2:05

p m. Those students participating in the Talent Show, PLEASE ARRIVE NO LATER THAN

1:45 p.m. ON SATURDAY. The talent show will be held in the small parking lot. We have a

lot of wonderful acts this year and we ask that you please arrive on time so that we can stay on

schedule. We encourage you to please stay to support your fellow performers!

FESTIVAL NEEDS: Our annual Parish Festival will be held this weekend, May 16th -18th.

Volunteers are still needed and families are reminded that they need to complete a minimum of 6

hours during the Festival weekend to fulfill their Family Service Hours requirements. All hours

over six may be used to complete your Fundraising Hours for the year, and/or Personal Hours.

Help is needed with set-up on Friday and tear-down on Sunday. Food and Game Booths still

need volunteers as well. If you’re not sure where to help please email

[email protected].

FESTIVAL FOOD COMMITTEE: The Festival food committee is having its walk through

meeting in the small lot/kitchen at. Wednesday, May 14th at 7:00 p.m. Please have vendors show

up also.

Festival shift reminders were sent from the website over the last few days. If you registered on

the website but did not receive a reminder, please confirm that your website profile contains

your current e-mail address.

Remember to sign in for each shift you work Festival weekend. If you cannot locate the sign-in

sheet at your booth, sign in at the Info Booth in the Gym.

In order for your hours to be properly credited, be sure that your website profiles are current.

Your profiles should identify you as a CTK School Family, and list the name of your oldest

few years are encouraged to double-check that their profiles are up-to-date.

If you did not sign up through the website, we do not know you are working. To get credit for

your Festival hours, use the standard Family Service Hours Log Sheet to list the booths and

days/times you are working. Submit the log sheet to the office no later than 3:00 p.m. on

Friday, May 16 so we can reconcile with the Festival Sign-In sheets during Festival weekend

to credit your hours.
