From the Pastor’s Desk

We are more than half way through Lent! This weekend a good time to evaluate how your Lenten practices are going. Perhaps it would be helpful to reconsider your commitments to prayer, fasting, and almsgiving. For example, have you discovered that it was just too much to pray the rosary every day for Lent? Maybe you can commit to just one decade of the rosary for the rest of Lent. Or if one rosary seems too little, then you can begin praying both the rosary and the Divine Mercy chaplet. What do you do if you now realize that sacrificing coffee is unbearable? Instead of cutting yourself off completely, may you can simply limit yourself to one cup a day. Or if turns out that sacrificing coffee was not too difficult, then you can let go of soda and tea as well. The most important thing to remember is that our Lenten disciplines should be leading us further away from sin and drawing us closer to Christ. Our goal is to love Jesus more wholeheartedly during these forty days. So, in these last few weeks of preparation before Easter, let us consider how we can make this Lent a time of renewal and authentic conversion. May the Lord bless you throughout the upcoming week.

Would you like to help purchase flowers for Easter as a memorial to a loved one? Write the name of the one to be remembered on a

piece of paper, put it with an offering of $10.00 in an envelope marked “Easter Flowers”, and drop it in the collection basket. You can also mail the envelope to the parish office. All Easter flower requests must be received by Sunday, March 25. (This event is bilingual.)

The Knights will be selling Super Cash Bonanza Raffle Tickets this weekend, March 10-11. The cost of the ticket is $5 and there

will be 25 cash prize winners in this state-wide raffle. Funds raised from this raffle will help the Knights of Columbus continue their good work in our parish and throughout our diocese. If you miss your chance to buy next weekend in the vestibule, find a Knight before May 5 – he will gladly sell you a ticket or two! Magnetic crosses will be available in the vestibule after all Masses this weekend. The crosses were gifted to the parish by the

Knights of Columbus. Take a cross and leave a donation. All monies collected from the crosses will help fund the Appalachian Project. Appalachian Project Appreciation: Thank you to everyone who

attended and/or supported the Appalachian Project Appreciation Fundraiser last Sunday. We appreciate the support of our parishioners during our 25 years of providing service to disadvantaged families in Scioto County. We are well on our way to meeting our goal of raising $10,000 for the 2018 Appalachian Project. There will be another opportunity to support the 2018 Appalachian Project during our Stock Sale on April 21 & 22 at Christ the King. For those youth who are interested in learning more about the Appalachian Project, our next meeting is at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday March 11, in the undercroft Assembly Room at Christ the King. ¡Estamos a más de la mitad de la Cuaresma! Este fin de semana es un buen momento para evaluar cómo van tus prácticas Cuaresmales. Tal vez sea bueno reconsiderar tus compromisos con la oración, el ayuno y la limosna. Por ejemplo, ¿qué haces si te das cuenta que rezar el rosario todos los días fue demasiado? Tal vez puedas comprometerte a rezar solo una decena del rosario. Outside the Parish

The next bi-monthly Mass of Healing will be held on Monday, March 19, at 6:30 p.m. at St. Joseph Cathedral. Following the

Mass, the Healing Service will begin with Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament and Veneration of relics of the True Cross. Each person then will then have an opportunity to speak individually with one of several priests present to discuss their particular situation and receive a prayer of healing; the Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick will also be available. The Healing Service will conclude with Benediction. All persons who seek Christ’s healing are invited – especially those who suffer with physical illness and infirmities (e.g. cancer and other debilitating diseases and conditions), in addition to those in seek emotional and spiritual healing. Secured parking is available off East Gay Street; handicap elevator access to the Cathedral is located off the Broad Street Courtyard. Saint Joseph Cathedral is located at 212 East Broad Street.
