Pope Francis' prayer for the Jubilee

Year of Mercy

Lord Jesus Christ, you have taught us

to be merciful like the heavenly Fa-

ther, and have told us that whoever

sees you sees Him. Show us your face

and we will be saved. Your loving gaze

freed Zacchaeus and Matthew from

being enslaved by money; the adulter-

ess and Magdalene from seeking happi-

ness only in created things; made Pe-

ter weep after his betrayal, and as-

sured Paradise to the repentant thief.

Let us hear, as if addressed to each

one of us, the words that you spoke to

the Samaritan woman: "If you knew the

gift of God!"

You are the visible face of the invisi-

ble Father, of the God who manifests

his power above all by forgiveness

and mercy: let the Church be your visi-

ble face in the world, its Lord risen

and glorified. You willed that your

ministers would also be clothed in

weakness in order that they may feel

compassion for those in ignorance and

error: let everyone who approaches

them feel sought after, loved, and for-

given by God.

Send your Spirit and consecrate every

one of us with its anointing, so that

the Jubilee of Mercy may be a year of

grace from the Lord, and your

Church, with renewed enthusiasm, may

bring good news to the poor, proclaim

liberty to captives and the oppressed,

and restore sight to the blind.

We ask this through the intercession

of Mary, Mother of Mercy, you who

live and reign with the Father and the

Holy Spirit for ever and ever.

Please Join us next Sunday, December 13 after the 9AM Mass for donut Sunday. Coffee, donuts and good company. Catch up with friends before the holidays.

The Corporal Works of Mercy are one way to begin reflect-ing on the specific acts of mercy – acts of love – that we can do as Servants of Christ.

• To feed the hungry;

• To give drink to the thirsty;

• To clothe the naked;

• To shelter the homeless

• To visit the sick;

• To visit those in prison; To bury the dead.

The Spiritual Works of Mercy are ways of “being there” for others as Servants of Christ.

• To instruct the ignorant;

• To counsel the doubtful:

• To admonish the sinner;

• To bear wrongs patiently;

• To forgive offenses willingly;

• To comfort the afflicted; To pray for the living and the dead.

If you did not pick up your copy of Rediscover Jesus, books will be available at all the Masses this Sunday. Please sign in that you received your copy. We want everyone to enjoy this wonderful book by Matthew Kelly.

First Sunday of Advent November 29, 2015

Why go to confession? The Sacrament of Reconcilia-tion (Penance) is more than a pious devotion that we pick or choose to participate in occasionally. The Sacrament is an opportunity to encounter Christ – the one who risked his life – literally – for the sinner, the lost one, the one who could not forgive and the one who believed that they could not be forgiven.

Sacrament of Reconciliation - Communal Penance Service Thursday, December 17, 2014

7:00 PM Is Forgiveness Important? The most difficult challenge we have in life is the ability to forgive and to be forgiven. Countless examples are around us of people who live with-out forgiveness. Families and friends are torn apart because we can’t for-give. Bitterness – Hostility – Grudges that we carry with us for years and years; never letting go of the anger, never let-ting go of the hurt. Meet an angry person and you will meet a person who has been hurt. . Letting go of that hurt is not something that we are able to do easily. So often we carry our hurt within us – unleash-ing it on others in anger. Think of the people Jesus met – the woman caught in adul-tery – there were people who wanted to stone her. Think of the the prodigal son who left home (maybe today the prodigal is the son or daugh-ter on drugs, the street kid, and the lost one), the “good “son was angry. In each case - forgiveness received and forgiveness offered - was the key for all the players. Jesus teaches us to let go of our fears; and let the Lord reach out to us in healing. LGaetano

How Can You Help? The Hope and Opportunities Ministry is a fairly new ministry in our church. Their mission is to utilize the gifts and resources of our parishioners, and to provide direct outreach, connections and networking to address the needs of our members and the surrounding community. This ministry group is interested in identifying the gifts, talents and resources available within our parish. At all the Masses this weekend (December 5-6), members of this ministry, John Cihon, Patti Fetzer, Teresa Golden-McClelland, Taryn Heath, Jack Heighway, Cindy Heighway-Zurbrugg, Jerry Sinay, and Dan Toussant will be surveying parishioners after Communion. Please support their efforts by letting them know how your talents could be utilized. If you have any questions, please contact the Committee by e-mail at [email protected].

An Opportunity for Spiritual Preparation for Christmas

An Evening Advent Reflection on the Jubilee Year of Mercy Lead by Jim Naegeli

Tuesday, December 15, 7 PM in the Gathering Room Leviticus 25:8- 13 describes the Hebrew custom of celebrating a Jubilee year. In the 1300s the church began a tradition of proclaiming the Jubilee every 50 years. In the 1400s it changed to every 25 years. The last Ordinary Jubilee took place

in the year 2000. There is also a tradition of an Extraordinary Jubilee that a pope may proclaim. The last one was in 1983 marking the 1950th anniversary of Christ's death and resurrection. Pope Francis has a declared an Extraordinary Jubilee to run beginning December 8, it is to be a Year of Mercy. We will reflect on the meeting of this Jubilee Year of Mercy along with ways that one can celebrate the year in their own lives. Please consider joining us as we prepare our spiritual lives for Christmas.
