The Clements-Lanham show came back by popular demand with an assisted

score brings the Centurions closer, 8-3. Then Lanham takes center stage,

wins the face off and and takes it straight to the goal for another score, clos-

ing the gap 8-4. CAL’s defense showed up in a big way throughout the

night. Barrett Gray had an assist to Jackson Donovan, shortening Colle-

giate’s lead 8-5.

Shortly thereafter, Kaden Weider picks up a loose ball and scores...closing

the gap 8-6. Collegiate then scores to go up 9-6. Cameron Roberts answers

with a goal to bring CAL closer, 9-7. Anderson to Clements for another

score makes it 9-8. Things finally get evened out with a beautiful goal by

Lanham, locking up the game 9-9. Taking the wind out of the crowd, Colle-

giate scores twice in response to go up 11-9.

CAL continues to fight undaunted with Anderson’s assist to Weider, which makes it 11-10. The crowd was coming unglued

as the pace of the game quickened to a frenetic pace. Collegiate scores, 12-10, followed by Clements’ assist to Anderson, 12

-11 Collegiate.

Collegiate scores 2 goals uncontested, which widens the gap 14 to 11. Dakota Lanham scores in response, bringing CAL

within two, and then Anderson assists Donovan for an incredible shot, bringing CAL within one point, the score 14-13.

Collegiate scores again, widening the gap 15-13. An Anderson assist to Weider brings CAL closer, but time runs out ending

the game 15-14 Collegiate.

A hard fought battle that fell just short of a victory, but provides good momentum going into what will surely be a tough

match against St. X this Thursday.

CAL LACROSSE DEFEATS BALLARD

Jackson Donovan scored the first getting CAL off the blocks early in the game.

Ballard scored in a man down scenario, making it 1-1.

Donovan makes the assist to Clements giving CAL the lead 2-1. Carter Adams

makes an awesome save in the goal, ending the first quarter 2-1 CAL.

Ballard starts the 2nd qtr and scores a quick one, evening the score at 2-2.

Dakota Lanham wins a face off and drives to the goal for a goal, 3-2 CAL.

Ballard scores, making it 3-3 with 5:00 left in the 2nd qtr.

Dakota goes one on one for a close shot and scores. 4-3 CAL. Caleb Anderson with the assist to Dakota Lanham, 5-3 CAL.

Another goal by Donovan makes it 6-3 CAL.

Roberts assist to Donovan extends the lead 7-3. Half ends with CAL leading 7-3.

Donovan opens up the new half and scores, 8-3 CAL.

Anderson runs a wicked dodge to score and extends the lead 9-3.

Ballard answers with 2 quick ones, closing the gap, 9-5.

Parker Clements scores and ends the 3rd qtr 10-5 CAL. As the game nears an end, an assist from Weider to Anderson.

CAL MS BOYS SOCCER KICKS OFF SEASON

The MS Boys soccer season kicked off last Tuesday on a chilly and blustery evening against Shelby

County East Middle School. Unfortunately, several of the team’s players had band commitments that

night which resulted in only one substitute being available for both the Varsity and JV matches.

From the outset of the game, the Centurions tried to possess the ball and there were several substantial

attacks in the opening minutes. The front line of Caden Hauser, Asa Ioos, Jackson Barrickman, and Ca-

den Holland with support from midfielders Daniel Karlen, Broderick Patterson, and Ty Jenkins kept

pressing the ball into the box and creating chances. Unfortunately the efforts weren’t rewarded as the

ball didn’t find the back of the net.

In the 11th minute, SEMS cleared an attack with a long ball to a very fast striker who broke away and was able to score despite the out-

stretched efforts of goalkeeper Caleb Rountree. At the ensuing kickoff, CAL continued to penetrate into the offensive half and, once

again, SEMS made a long clear which resulted in another goal in the 16th minute.

Being down 0-2, the Centurions were still undaunted and continued to press the attack. Those

efforts were rewarded when Karlen was able to juke several Shelby East defenders, create some

space from 23 yards out, and launched a screamer to the top right corner of the goal! Game on!

In the closing seconds of the first half, Karlen stripped a SEMS attacker and played a through ball

to Ioos who ran into space and was able to beat the last defender only to have the shot narrowly

miss to the left post.

Due to the lack of substitutes, the boys steadily grew more and more tired in the second half. SEMS had 8 subs who they continuously

shuttled in and out of the line up. Despite this, CAL was able to keep pace. The defensive line of JC Hawkins, John Sabbak, Will Lewis,

and Joe Winnenberg showed great discipline and set several offside traps for the SEMS strikers. Additionally, they continued to hold

pace with the attacks and made great anticipations which were rewarded with key interceptions. Their and Rountree’s efforts resulted in

a clean sheet in the second half.

Despite the exhaustion, the Centurions still created many chances in the second half but just couldn’t

capitalize on them. In fact, the last 2 minutes of the game saw no fewer than 3 CAL attacks on goal.

At the final horn, CAL lost 1-2 but there’s no doubt that they gained the respect of their opponents.

For the Junior Varsity game, several of the younger Centurions that played in the Varsity game stayed

over as substitutes for the second match. The SEMS JV team was physically much larger than our

boys and, once again, they had many substitutes to throw at us.

Additionally for most of the boys on CAL’s JV team, this was their first-ever experience playing

11v11 and being on a big field. That game is fundamentally much different from what they are accus-

tomed to. Despite the adversity, the Centurions weren’t intimidated by their bigger foes and showed a

lot of heart. Bryson Hauser and Ty Jenkins with

support from Cole Janes and Jackson Carter pressed the attack whenever the oppor-

tunity offered it. That effort was rewarded when Jenkins was able to intercept a pass

from the opponent’s keeper and quickly slot it past his fingertips. Congratulations,

Ty, on your first goal in MS Soccer!

While the JV team was defeated, they played with great tenacity and enthusiasm. It

was a good learning experience and better things are to come.
