The mission of Christian Brothers Academy is to develop intellectually mature and morally responsibleleaders.DrawingfromtheethosofthefounderoftheChristianBrothersandthepatronsaintofteachers,St.JohnBaptistedeLaSalle,ChristianBrothersAcademynotonlyimpartsknowledgebuttransformsadolescentboysintoChristiangentlemenofstrongmoralcharacterwhoareawareofthelargerworldandreadytoservesociety.Excellentacademicsanddiverseextracurricularprogramsareinvaluablepartsofthismission,butitisthetotalityofeducation,thedevelopmentofthewholeperson-spirit,mind,andbody-thatChristianBrothersAcademyisuniquelysuitedtoprovide.
SpecialPrograms
TheBrotherMichaelDwyer,FSCScholarsProgram iscomprisedofacohortofstudentsintheirjuniorandsenioryearswhoparticipateinfocusedresearchinaselectedareaofstudy.Asseniors,membersoftheScholarsProgrameachpresenttheirownindependentresearchprojectstoapaneloffacultyandtheirpeers.
TheSaintdeLaSalleChapteroftheNationalHonorSocietywascharteredattheAcademyin1965andexiststopromotescholarship,service,leadership,andcharacter.MembersarechosenbasedonevidenceoftheirexceptionalachievementsintheseareasandareexpectedtoserveasmodelsoftheNHS’sfourpillarsfortheentireCBAcommunity.
TheCBAChristianServiceProgramrequireseachstudenttocompleteminimumyearlyservicetothoseinneed;moststudentsfarexceedminimumrequirements. Someoftheserviceopportunities includeweek longservice immersion trips.Studentsparticularlycommitted toservicehaveanopportunity toenroll inaChristianServiceClassduringtheirsenioryear.Seniorschosenforthisprogramcommittoperformingconsistentweeklyvolunteerserviceatasiteoftheirchoosing.
TheseniorsinthePeerMinistryprogramserveas“GURU’s”orbigbrotherstomembersofthefreshmanclass. TheGURU’s leadweeklymeetingswithsmallgroupsof freshmentohelp foster theirpersonal,spiritual,academic,andsocialgrowth.
TheManhattanCollegeDualEnrollmentprogramaffordsstudentstheopportunitytoearnManhattanCollegecreditsbytakingManhattanCollege-approvedcoursesintheCBAcurriculum.CBAstudentstakethese classes at CBA, and they are taught by CBA teachers who have been vetted and approved bydepartmentchairsatManhattanCollege.
