Mission The mission of Christian Brothers Academy is to develop intellectually mature and morally responsible leaders. Drawing from the ethos of the founder of the Christian Brothers and the patron saint of teachers, St. John Baptiste de La Salle, Christian Brothers Academy not only imparts knowledge but transforms adolescent boys into Christian gentlemen of strong moral character who are aware of the larger world and ready to serve society. Excellent academics and diverse extracurricular programs are invaluable parts of this mission, but it is the totality of education, the development of the whole person - spirit, mind, and body - that Christian Brothers Academy is uniquely suited to provide. Special Programs The Brother Michael Dwyer, FSC Scholars Program is comprised of a cohort of students in their junior and senior years who participate in focused research in a selected area of study. As seniors, members of the Scholars Program each present their own independent research projects to a panel of faculty and their peers. The Saint de La Salle Chapter of the National Honor Society was chartered at the Academy in 1965 and exists to promote scholarship, service, leadership, and character. Members are chosen based on evidence of their exceptional achievements in these areas and are expected to serve as models of the NHS’s four pillars for the entire CBA community. The CBA Christian Service Program requires each student to complete minimum yearly service to those in need; most students far exceed minimum requirements. Some of the service opportunities include week long service immersion trips. Students particularly committed to service have an opportunity to enroll in a Christian Service Class during their senior year. Seniors chosen for this program commit to performing consistent weekly volunteer service at a site of their choosing. The seniors in the Peer Ministry program serve as “GURU’s” or big brothers to members of the freshman class. The GURU’s lead weekly meetings with small groups of freshmen to help foster their personal, spiritual, academic, and social growth. The Manhattan College Dual Enrollment program affords students the opportunity to earn Manhattan College credits by taking Manhattan College-approved courses in the CBA curriculum. CBA students take these classes at CBA, and they are taught by CBA teachers who have been vetted and approved by department chairs at Manhattan College.
