2
Bruce But Christ has redeemed us form the
curse which the law pronounces, and
He has done so by submitting to a
curse on our behalf…
The curse of the law that we have been redeemed, or set free
from, was three fold (sin, sickness, and poverty). We are
redeemed, or set free, from the curse Jesus bore for us.
THE CURSE OF THE LAW (OR THE BROKEN LAW)
We are not under the (covenant, also know as Old
Testament) but under grace (New Covenant or New
Testament)
The Curse
Deuteronomy 28:15-19
King James But it shall come to pass, if thou wilt
not hearken unto the voice of the Lord
thy God, to observe to do all His com-
mandments and His statutes which I
command thee this day: that all these
curses shall come upon thee, and over-
take thee:
V16- Cursed shalt thou be in the city,
and cursed shalt thou be in the field.
V17- Cursed shall be thy basket and
thy store.
V18- Cursed shall be the fruit of thy
body, and the fruit of thy kind, and the
flocks of thy sheep.
V19- Cursed shalt thou be when thou
comest in, and cursed shalt thou be
when thou goest out.
3
Deuteronomy 28:21-22, 27-29
King James The Lord shall make the pestilence
cleave unto thee, until He has con-
sumed thee from off the land, whither
thou goest to possess it.
V22- The Lord shall smite thee with a
consumption, and with a fever, and
with an information, and with an ex-
treme burning, and with the sword,
and with blasting, and with mildew;
and they shall purse thee until thou
perish.
V27- The Lord will smite thee with
the botch of Egypt, and with the
emerods, and with the scab, and with
the itch, whereof thou canst not be
healed.
V28- The Lord shall smite the with

ment of heart:

and thou shalt not prosper in thy ways:
and thou shalt be only oppressed and
spoiled evermore, and no man shall
save thee.
Deuteronomy 28:32, 41
King James Thy sons and thy daughters shall be
given unto another people, and thine
eyes shall look, and fail with longing
for them all the day long: and there
shall be no might in thine hand.
V41- Thou shalt beget sons and
daughters, but thou shalt not enjoy
4
them; form they shall go into captiv-
ity.
Deuteronomy 28:61
King James also every sickness, and every plague,
which is not written in the book of this
law, them will the Lord bring upon
thee, until thou be destroyed.
Read the whole 28th Chapter of Deuteronomy…
It lists the blessings that are ours and exactly what Jesus
has redeemed or freed us from.
Our Redemption
Isaiah 53:4
King James Surely He hath borne our griefs, and
carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem

we accounted Him smitten by God,
struck down by disease and misery.
Isaiah 53:5

Him through disease…

His blood, the forgiveness of sins, ac-

7
Blackwelder In our behalf God identified Him with
everything in the whole realm of sin in
order that by trusting Him we might
become (recipients) of God’s kind of
righteousness.
Street Letters The Father took the Son who never
had any evil in Him and lain the evil
in the universe on Him. (sin…
sickness…poverty)

ed our diseases from us.

8
sins, the just for the unjust, that He

the spirit;

yet for our sakes He became poor, that
ye through His poverty might be rich.
Ben Johnson You know the unconditional love of
our Lord Jesus Christ, He had all the
wealth of God and He became a pau-
per so that through, His poverty we
could be wealthy.
Wuest …by means of His poverty you might
be made wealthy.
III John 2
King James Beloved, I wish above all things that
thou mayest prosper and be in health, 9
even as thy soul prospereth.
Jesus has redeemed us; freed us from sin (spiritual death)…
sickness and poverty. We do not have to suffer what Jesus
has (past tense) suffered for us.
How do Christians suffer?
Let us define the bible definition of suffering……
Suffering…Vines Expository Dictionary of the New
Testament Words says…afflictions…problems…mental
anguish…sorrow…to let go…to send away…to endure…
to bear with…to be ill treated…evil entreated to be done
wrong…injustice…to suffer hardship…to suffer trouble…
to lay down…to let alone…to suffer loss…to put up with
…to undergo discomfort
We never have to suffer anything that Jesus suffered in His
redemptive work. Suffering becomes Victorious when any-
one bears up, with cheerfulness, under great Calamities. It
requires more courage to suffer through to victory, that to
die.
Scriptures on Christian Suffering
II Timothy 3:12
King James Yea, and all that will live Godly in
Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.
Knox …who are resolved to live a holy life.
J.B. Phillips Persecution is inevitable for those who
are determined to live really Christian
lives.
(A true Christian is a threat to the kingdom of darkness
10
...satan.)
Mark 10:28-30
King James Then Peter began to say unto Him, lo,
we have left all, and have followed
thee.
Translators New Peter said to him, ‘What about us?
We have left everything and have fol-
lowed you.’
King James V29- And Jesus answered and said,
verily I say unto you, there is no man
that hath left house, or brethren, or
sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or
children, or lands for my sake, and the
gospels
V30- But He shall receive an hundred-
fold now in this time, houses, and
brethren, and sisters, and mothers, and
children, and lands, with persecutions;
and in the world to come eternal life.
J.B. Phillips …though not without persecutions
Message …but also in troubles.
(For Jesus sake and the gospel)
Acts 9:16
(Paul – Suffer for Jesus and gospel)
King James For I will shew him how great things
he must suffer for my name’s sake.
II Corinthians 1:6
11
King James And whether we be afflicted, it is for
your consolation an salvation, which
is effectual in the enduring of the same
sufferings which we also suffer: or
whether we be comforted, it is for
your consolation and salvation.
Street Letters So when you get it rough, the result is
that you get enough comfort and
strength to spread to every life you
touch.
N Berk When we are troubled, it is for your
comfort and salvation. When we are
comforted, it is for the encouragement
that you experience in the enduring of
the same suffering we endure.
II Corinthians 11:23-28
King James Are they ministers of Christ? (I speak
as a fool) I am more: in labours more
abundant, in stripes above measure, in
prisons more frequent, in death oft.
Cotton Patch I’m talking like I’m nuts – I have it all
over them.
Here’s my score:
Days on the work gage…lost count
Number times in jail…lost count
Number times beaten up…too many
Faced with death…quite often
King James V24- …of the Jews five times re-
ceived I forty stripes save one.
Cotton Patch V24- The usual mauling by the state
patrol – five times.
12
King James V25- Thrice was I beaten with rods,
once was I stoned, thrice I suffered
shipwreck, a night and a day I have
been in the deep;
Cotton Patch V25-…beat with blackjack…three
times, shot…once, car wrecks…three,
day and night in the swamp…once
King James V26- In journeys often, in perils of
waters, in perils of robbers, in perils
by my own countrymen, in perils by
the heathen, in perils in the city, in
perils in the wilderness, in perils in the
sea, in perils among false brethren;
Twentieth Century V26- My journeys have been many. I
have been through dangers from riv-
ers, dangers from robbers, dangers
from my own people, dangers from
the gentiles, dangers in towns, dangers
in the country, dangers on the sea,
dangers among false brothers.
King James V27- In weariness and painfulness, in
watchings often, in hunger and thirst,
in fastings often in cold and nakedness

without, that which cometh upon me
daily, the care of all the churches.
13

have the daily burden of responsibility
for all the churches.
II Corinthians 12:1-11
King James It is not expedient for me doubtless to
glory. I will come to visions and reve-
lations of the Lord.
V2- I knew a man in Christ above
fourteen years ago, (whether in the
body, I cannot tell; or whether out of
the body, I cannot tell; God knoweth)
such a one caught up to the third heav-
en.
V3- And I knew such a man (whether
in the body, or out of the body, I can-
not tell: God knoweth)
V4- How that he was caught up into
paradise, and heard unspeakable
words, which is not lawful for a man
to utter.
V5- Of such an one will I glory: yet of
myself I will not glory, but in my in-
firmities
V6- For though I would desire to glo-
ry, I shall not be a fool; for I will say
the truth: but now I forbear, lest any
man should think of me above that
which he seeth me to be, or that he
heareth of me.
King James V7- And lest I should be exalted
above measure through the abundance
of the revelations, there was given to
me a thorn in the flesh, the messenger
of satan to buffet me, lest I should be
exalted above measure.
Message V7- Satan’s angel did his best to get 14
me down…
King James V8- For this thing I besought the Lord
thrice, that it might depart from me.
King James V9- And he said unto me, my grace is
sufficient for thee: for my strength is
made perfect in weakness. Most glad-
ly therefore will I rather glory in my
infirmities, that the power of Christ
may reset upon me.
Overby V9- For divine power is realized in
proportion as human power dies away.
King James V10- Therefore I take pleasure in in-
firmities. In reproaches, in necessities,
in persecutions, in distresses for
Christ’s sake: for when I am weak,
then am I strong.
Verse 11- I am become a fool in glo-
rying: ye have compelled me: for I
ought to have been commended of
you: for in nothing am I behind the
very chiefest apostles, though I be
nothing
Goodspeed V11- I have been making a fool of
myself, but you forced me to do it,
when you ought to have been express-
ing your approval of me. For I am not
a bit inferior to your superfine apos-
tles, even if I am nobody!
I Corinthians 12:26
King James And whether one member suffer, all
the members suffer with it; or one
15
member be honoured, all the members
rejoice with it.
Charles Williams If one part suffers, all the parts suffer
with it. If one part receives an honor,
all the parts can share its joy.
Romans 2:4
King James Or despisest thou the riches of His
goodness and the forebearance and
longsuffering; not knowing that the
vessels of wrath fitted to destruction:
Romans 9:22
King James What if God, willing to shew His
wrath, and to make His power known,
endured with much longsuffering the
vessels of wrath fitted to destruction:
Romans 8:16-17
King James The spirit itself beareth witness with
our spirit, that we are the children of
God:
V17- and if Children, then heirs: heirs
of God, and joint heirs with Christ; if
so be that we suffer with Him, that we
may be also glorified together.
Cotton Patch V17- provided, of course, that we
identify with His suffering in order to
join in His reward.
S.C. Carpenter V17- we are qualified to inherit all
16
that God gives, sharing the inheritance
that Christ has won for us. Partners
with Him in His cross and passion,
and partners with him in His glory.
Romans 8:18
King James For I reckon that the sufferings of this
present time are not worthy to com-
pared with the glory which shall be
revealed to you.
Amplified But what of that? For I consider that
the sufferings of this present time (this
present life) are not worth being com-
pared with the glory that is about to be
revealed to us an in us and for us, and
conferred on us!
Blackwelder Actually, I regard the sufferings of this
present period unworthy of considera-
tion in view of the glory about to be
unveiled with reference to us.
Goodspeed …not to be compared with the glory
that is to burst upon us.
Galatians 3:3-4
King James Are ye so foolish? Having begun in
the spirit, are ye now made perfect by
the flesh?
Barclay V3- You began in the spirit. Are you
going to end up by trying to win salva-

King James V4- Have ye suffered so many things
in vain? If it be yet in vain.
17

experience? Surely it cannot all go for
nothing!

no purpose – If indeed it has been to
no purpose…
Galatians 5:22
King James But the fruit of the spirit is love, joy,
peace, longsuffering, gentleness,
goodness, faith.
Distilled The Holy Spirit in your heart…
produces beautiful graces needing no
control.
Take notice… Fruit grows as you put it into action…not
automatically. These fruits are in your born-again spirit,
because the Holy Spirit is dwelling in your spirit.
Ephesians 4:1-3
King James I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord,
beseech you that ye walk worthy of
the vocation wherewith are called
Doddr …let there be nothing in your temper
and conduct beneath the dignity to
which you are raised.
King James V2- With all lowliness and meekness,
with longsuffering, forebearing one
another in love.
Knox V2- You must be always humble, al-
18
ways gentle; patient, too, in bearing
with one another’s faults, as charity
bids.
J.B. Phillips V2- …Making allowances for one an-
other because you love one another.
Cornish V2-…to be patient, not hard on one
another…
Translators New V2- Show your love by being tolerant
with one another.
Wand V2- …support one another in love.
King James V3- Endeavoring to keep the unity of
the spirit in the bond of peace.
Carpenter V3- Our unity is from above. It is
born out of the fact that we have all
been baptized into the one body, and
have all been made to drink of the one
spirit. Strive to maintain that God-
created harmony.
Philippians 1:29
King James For unto you it is given in the behalf

but also to suffer for His sake;
For Jesus’ sake and proclaiming the mighty gospel.
Romans 1:16
King James For I am not ashamed of the gospel of
Christ: for it is the power of God unto
salvation to every one that believeth…
19
Colossians 3:12
King James Put on therefore, as the elect of God,
holy and beloved bowels of mercies,
kindness, humbleness of mind, meek-
ness, long-suffering;
J.B. Phillips God’s picked representatives of the
new humanity, purified and beloved of
God Himself; be merciful in action,
kindly in heart, humble in mind, ac-
cept life and be most patient.
I Thessalonians 2:14
King James For ye, brethren, became followers of the
churches of God which in Judea are in Christ
Jesus: For ye also have suffered like things of
you own countrymen, even as they have of the
Jews.
Goodspeed For you brothers, followed the exam-
ple of God’s churches in Judea that are
in union with Christ Jesus…
Wey …see that you endured the same ill-
treatment…
Conybeare …in asmuch as you suffered the like
persecution from your own country-
men…
20
II Timothy 2:8-12
King James Remember that Jesus Christ of the
seed of David was raised from the
dead according to my gospel:
V9- Wherein I suffer trouble, as an
evil doer, even unto bonds; but the
word of God is not bound.
V10- Therefore endure all things for
the elect’s sakes, that they may also
obtain the salvation which is in Christ
Jesus with eternal glory.
V11- It is a faithful saying: for if we
be dead with Him, we shall also live
with Him;
V12- If we suffer, we shall also reign
with Him: if we deny Him, He also
will deny us:
II Timothy 3:1-11
King James This know also, that in the last days
perilous times shall come.
V2- For men shall be lovers of their
own selves, covetous, boasters, proud,
blasphemers, disobedient to parents,
unthankful, unholy.
V3- Without natural affection,
trucebreakers, false accusers, inconti-
nent, fierce, despisers of those that are
good,
V4- Traitors, heady, high-minded, lov-
ers of pleasures more than lovers of
God;
V5- Having a form of Godliness, but
denying the power thereof, from such
turn away.
21
V6-For of this sort are they which
creep into houses, and lead captive
silly women laden with sins, led away
with divers lusts.
V7- Ever learning, and never able to
come to the knowledge of the truth.
V8- Now as Jannes and Manbres with-
stood Moses, so do these also resist
the truth: Men of corrupt minds, rep-
robate concerning the faith.
V9- But they shall proceed not further:
for their folly shall be manifest unto
all men, as theirs also was.
V10- But thou hast fully known my
doctrine, manner of life, purpose, faith
long-suffering, charity, patience,
V11- Persecutions, afflictions, which
came unto me at Antioch, at Iconium,
at Lystra; what persecutions I endured
but out of them all the Lord delivered
me.
Twentieth Century V11- The Lord brought me safe out of
all!
II Timothy 3:12

Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.

ed unto Thessalonica; Crescens to Ga-
latia, Titus unto Dalmatia. 22
V14- Alexander the coppersmith did
me much evil: The Lord reward him
according to his works.
Walking in love with those who have forsaken you and who
say hurtful things about you is suffering for Jesus and the
gospel. If you do not defend or respond, to justify yourself,
then you will stay happy.
I Peter 3:14,16
King James But and if ye suffer for righteousness’
sake, happy are ye: and be not afraid
of their terror, neither be troubled;
V16- Having a good conscience; that,
whereas they speak evil of you, as of
evildoers, they may be ashamed that
falsely accuse your good conversation
in Christ.
Hebrews 2:18
King James For in that He Himself hath suffered
being tempted, He is able to succor
them that are tempted.
Way He (Jesus) in His humanity suffered
through temptation.
Succor…Vines…The help of a wealthy man.
Example (suffer temptation)
Not to Tithe…Quit because of financial pressures.
Suffer…In Hebrews 2:18…Antagonism of the devil.
Remember…The devil is a liar. He comes to steal…kill…
destroy.
23
What the devil says, and devil-inspired people say…the op-
posite is true.
Ephesians 4:27
King James Neither give place to the devil.
Wand It is when we are in a sulky frame of
mind that the devil has his greatest
opportunity.
Guard your mind with praise…Honoring our Lord….
With thanksgiving…Giving glory to Jesus.
The choice is ours!!!
I Peter 5:10
King James But the God of all grace, who hath
called us unto His eternal glory by
Christ Jesus, after that ye have suf-
fered a while, make you perfect, estab-
lish, strengthen, and settle you.
NEB And the God of all grace, who called
you into His eternal glory in Christ,
will Himself, after your brief suffering
restore, establish, and strengthen you
on a firm foundation.
Message The suffering won’t last forever. It
won’t be long before this generous
God who has great plans for us in
Christ – eternal and glorious plans
they are – will have you put together
and on your feet for good. He gets the
last word; Yes, He does.
24
II Timothy 4:18
King James And the Lord shall deliver me from
every evil work, and will preserve me
unto His heavenly kingdom: to whom
be glory for ever and ever. Amen.
Amen……..
