Christian Visi or February 18, 2014 Volume 68 Issue 7 Psalms 1:1-3, “Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers, 2 but whose delight is in the law of the LORD, and who meditates on his law day and night. 3 That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not witherwhatever they do prospers.” What a wonderful truth this is and it fits with the next sermon which will be on the “Sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God.” (Ephesians 6:17) Even though this teaching is given as a defensive weapon we are given to thwart the attacks of Satan, the truth is the best defense is a good offense. From Wikipedia: “Generally, the idea is that a strong offensive action will preoccupy the opposition and ultimately hinder its ability to mount an opposing counterattack, leading to a strategic advantage.” As we delight in the law of the Lord, it is implanted in our hearts and when the attack of Satan occurs it is right there, able to be the offensive weapon that is needed to turn Satan around in his tracks. There is no need to fall back in a defensive position but we can move forward in an offensive mode. I have been pondering a term over the last couples of weeks, “inward life principle.” As I have been rolling this term around in my mind, looking at it and considering its implications, I have come to understand that it is a value of life that I hold so dear that fruit will be produced in accordance with it. In other words, whatever the heart values, fruit of that value will be produced. Like a tree that is planted by “good” water, good fruit will be produced. A tree planted by “bad” water wil l produce bad fruit or no fruit at all. So many scriptures apply here like Proverbs 4:23. “Watch over your heart with all diligence, for from it flows the springs of life.” To pull this all together the question is what is the inward life principle that produces fruit in your life? What is flowing out of your heart? Is it the love of God? Is it the grace of God? Is it the power of God that can overcome Satan and all his attacks and temptations? Understanding, appreciating and being able to draw upon all the love, grace and power available to us from God requires hearts that are planted beside the streams of good water which is God’s word. God’s word is so powerful that it will create an “inward life principle” that will thwart anything that is thrown our way. Try planting yourself more often beside the streams of water and watch as the rivers of living water begin flowing from your heart. In much love, Pastor Darrel
