FAMILY RELATIONS - Helps form positive ideas concerning parenting and relating with family members, including parents and siblings who many times continue to be a part of their lives. Our goal for the participants is that they will transfer these new ideas into practice with their own families. (Instructors: Jonathan Herston and Cindy Tibbetts)PLANNING FOR A WORKING LIFESTYLE - “Taking Care of Business” teaches time management skills by keeping a calendar and a notebook for lists so students know what is important today, tomorrow, next week, and next month. Students learn how to prioritize their time so what is important is taken care of first rather than not at all. (Instructor: Toddy Savage)HEALTH AND WHOLENESS - Recognizing that we are whole people of God, this class promotes whole health -- body, mind, and spirit. Topics discussed include: understanding whole health, nutrition, healthy numbers- heart disease and diabetes, community resources, family health, healthy habits-exercise and fitness, women’s health and cancer awareness, HIV, dental health, spiritual health and stress, personal safety, Heartsaver First Aid and CPR. (Instructor: Peggy Hansen and Guest Speakers: Nancy Haynes, Janet Deutsch, Kathryn Williams, Pam Revels, Judy Simon, Kathe Briggs, Colleen Alsobrook, Dr. Steve Litsey, Tracy Wynne, Deborah Owen, Julie Klarenbeek and Nurses)BEAUTIFUL YOU, EXTRAORDINARY WOMEN AND FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT BIBLE STUDY - Because we are Christians, we try to embed all our learning in the Scriptures. We look to the Bible for lessons on how to develop self-esteem (BEAUTIFUL YOU CLASS), a good work ethic and to learn how to use the Bible to find help in overcoming problems as we look for the “FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT’ to blossom in our lives. We use examples of women in the Bible to see how that applies to our lives today (EXTRAORDINARY WOMEN). (Instructors: Charlotte Ward and Neeley Caldwell and Extraordinary Women Guest Speakers: Shelia Keedy, Pat Ingram, Candice Lee, Lindsey Middleton, Laura Foxhall, Jean Roberson and Sharon Denham)FITNESS - Introduces different types of physical activities and helps participants to be in good shape with light cardio-endurance, flexibility/stretching. (Instructor: Mary Fermin)SURPRISE - Covers a wide range of “surprise” activities that prepares participants for employment. (Ring Leader: Lynn Bell and Guests)

FABULOUS FRIDAYS- Begins with a fabulous lunch and beautiful decorations followed by a special afternoon activity. (Hospitality Coordinator: Sally Sheehan and many, many Volunteers)

Past Participant Busy Realizing Her Dreams Ariel stopped by the CWJC office last week asking if she could volun-teer for the program that has been so instrumental in her many recent life changes. Since Ariel graduated from

CWJC in May of 2013, she has en-rolled at Alabama State majoring in Rehabilitation Services and is in her second semester as a full time student. She is working 20+ hours per week

at Zaxby’s and has moved out of her mother’s house in Lanett and is sharing an apartment in Auburn with one of her girlfriends. After picking up a brochure on a CWJC field trip to the Goodwill Center last year, Ariel learned of a City of Auburn Match Savings Program which is designed to assist low-income individuals in saving for homeown-ership. Participants save a maximum of $2,000 ($25 or more each month) which will be matched with $4,000 from the City of Auburn and the Alabama Assest Building Coalition. The participant must be employed, establish residence in Auburn, open a savings account, and is required to complete 8 hours of financial literacy education sessions and 4 hours of asset specific education. We are so proud of Ariel for taking the initiative to realize her dreams.
