● Prayer

-Describe the different types of personal

prayer

● Christians are called to be people of prayer

● Following the example of Jesus. Prayer was at the heart of the

ministry of Jesus and those who follow Jesus seek to also live a

life of prayer.

● All Christian denominations have communal prayer rituals which

play a very significant role in their tradition.

● Most important of these is the Sabbath or Sunday service

which is the focal point for the life of the community.

● There is also a wide range of personal prayer forms which

are undertaken by Christians in various denominations.

● In the gospel the disciples ask Jesus to teach them to pray.(Luke 11:1 & Matthew 6:9-15)

● Used throughout all denominations● Commonly in liturgy as well as

personal prayer.

Approach to prayer:

● Praise eg "hallowed be thy name"

● Petition eg "Give us this day our daily bread"

● Repentance eg "Forgive us our trespasses"

about to receive from Thy bounty, throughChrist our Lord.

After: We give Thee thanks for all Thy benefits, O Almighty

God, who livest and reignest world without end. Amen. May
