CHRISTMAS MESSAGE Merry Christmas! Merry! " Do not be afraid; for see I am bringing you good news of great joy for all the people: to you is boday in the city of David a Savior, who is the Messiah, the Lord." (Lk 2.10host, praising God and saying, "Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace among those whom he favors!" (Lk 2. 13 No doubt these words from an Angel and a multitude of heavenly hosts at the first Jesus' birthday are Great News for us and fworld! However, sometimes we tend to question what is happening throughout the world and even in our own experience: do we have peace in the world? Does the Prince of Peace eliminate all the conflicts and hatred that lead to terrible wars of destruour Lord come to eliminate the poverty in the world, and in our own country? Does he heal all the diseases and suppress all sin many different kinds and forms? This year, the Sunday after Christmas we celebrate the Feast of the Holy Family. What lesson do we learn from the Holy Familythe Holy Family exempted from poverty and suffering? The great lesson is their love for one another no matter what had happenlife. Joseph's love for Mary is firstly proved by accepting her as his Fiancé even though he did not understand what happed wbecame pregnant without his knowing and so on during their difficult life together as husband and wife. Mary's love for her Sproved by numbers of occasions even though she did not completely understand what was going on and finally she experienced thsword through her heart at the foot of the cross and of course her love for Joseph even this is not revealed much in the gosp After the Holy Family, the First Martyrs reflect their peace through their heroic endurance of great persecution as witnessesDuring the great persecution martyrs still experienced peace within their hearts because they firmly believed that "neither dlife, nor angels, nor rulers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor anything else inwill be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord." (Rom 8.38 There is an expression (this may be from Cicero): 'peace does not mean absence of war.' This is not the word of God but it caapplied to our Christian life as followers of Christ whose lives are engaged to the fight against evil but it is not the fighall human senses, the fight within it we are taught by our Lord "I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who perseyou." (Matt 5.44) The first Martyr Stephen put into practice this teaching, he pray for those who stoned him: " Lord, do nosin against them." (Act 7.60) Others Martyrs did the same. Certainly Jesus comes to transform our lives and the world but he does not exclude us from his plan of transformation. He wanto be peacemakers by all means, We are invited to bring peace into to our world and certainly we will posses peace within us we believe that 'nothing is able to separate us from the love of God through Christ Jesus our Lord' (Rom 8.38only a tiny babe in the manger of Bethlehem. We need a lot of reflection to find out what does it mean from the Good News of joy announced at Jesus' birth Day. Merry Christmas! Sincerely yours in Christ Fr. Peter Thang Nguyen
