Christmas 2015 Refuge Egypt Bulletin 12 Days of Christmas The season of advent is upon us: a season of waiting, of celebration, of reflection, and of hope. It also happens to be a busy season of number-crunching and reporting for us as we plan for the next year—and reflect on the year (almost) gone. As we consider the end of the year, we wanted to share some of these highlights with you—because without your support, we couldn’t have acheived them. And what better way to count than the ‘12 Days of Christmas’? 1200 graduates from the cleaning course every week (on average). These courses give refugees an employable skill–in domestic house-keeping–which we use as the basis of placing jobs. As of November, we’ve placed 346 refugees in full-time or part- time employment. 11 10 % of the those reg- istering with us to receive assistance come from North and South Kordofan in Sudan (see right). Over the last few years, the government in Sudan has in- creased bombing raids on the Nuba Mountains region in this area. Many of those displaced by war in Sudan have sought refuge in Egypt. emergency consultations and follow-up meetings with 140 families fighting malnutrition, held across our 5 clinics in Cairo and Alexandria.

The season of advent is upon us: a season of waiting, of celebration, of reflection, and of hope. It also happens to be a busy season of number-crunching and reporting for us as we plan for the next year—and reflect on the year (almost) gone. As we consider the end of the year, we wanted to share some of these highlights with you—because without your support, we couldn’t have acheived them. 90children registered to attend our Happy Child Preschool in Septem-ber this—exactly double the intake the same time a year ago. The Preschool provides a safe place for children to learn, play, and grow, with free school meals and Montessori-trained teachers.

803antiretroviral treat-ments for our HIV-Aids patients across our clinics this year.

7levels of English Language, from absolute beginner to upper intermediate, currently being taught through our Adult Education program, with 9 classes and 215 students this term alone. The picture below is from our September graduation, which graduated 87 students.

6trainings held with refugee youth since September on key life skills: eco-nomic independence, CV-writing, job-searching, education and living in peace. These trainings have reached 235 refugee youth.

5,615food parcels distributed to pregnant women and mothers with young chil-dren through our clinics across Cairo and Alex-andria supporting the most vulnerable refugee families.

4.7new cases of TB detected every month by our expert staff (on average)

3full-time staff dedi-cated to interviewing new arrivals—Eman, George, and Cecilia—to help determine their needs and how best we can serve them. As the picture below shows, they do a diffi-cult—and very impor-tant—job.

2days a week—the number of days our dedicated antenatal clinic in Alexandria operates, providing 542 consultations of vital care for 71 newly-registered women this year, as of October.
